East African Safari Rally 2005
One interesting thing about the Brisbane prepared car, which may have been done for an African competitor, was that they retained stock rubber bushes in the suspension. The idea was to reduce driver fatigue by minimumising NVH and also chassis stress, compared with using aftermarket metal or poly bushes. Fingers crossed that the Porkers stay where they belong, behind the Datsun

East African Safari Rally 2005
That Collinge/Levitan Z may be the Aussie prepared one, done in a workshop not far from me. Have to check that out. Anyway, go the Z cars, wherever they are from

So I visited RockyAuto Japan...
That won't be a day you will forget in a hurry James From what I hear a lot of the Japanese car thing is about show, whatever is in and has status, currently customised old cars. But then there are the real enthusiasts who put preformance first, like us around here :lick: Oh, where is my HS130 :nervous:

Glisten PC
Yeh I brushed it on too, on a set of shiny wheel rims. What annoyed me was the makers claim as to its brushability with no specific instructions as to how to do it properly, if special application does help. It turned out bad no matter how much care was taken, bastards. It does seem to be quite a durable product but I wondered about other cheaper products that would do the job too, like the clear used by wheel manufacturers or even that two pack clear used on wooden floors.

My 1st time at the track
Thats a good rear brake setup, glad it worked well Dave. Got a spoiler or two coming up? Bit hard to tell but it looks like you are getting some typical Z front end lift at speed.

My 1st time at the track
No worries Dave, we all have done things like that, the main thing is did you have fun? Sounds OK for a L6, with a GT35R up it whoohoo

Ride of the day...
Easy to lose concentration after a while, or else keep pushing until............. Been there, about five laps at a time is enough for me.

Classic Adelaide targa results
Hehe, there is a mistake in the results apparently, the Brissy boys didn't make 6th overall. Whatever, they did terrific

Another 240z article
Good one Rick The mag is ducking the issue though, passing it on to the author. Who probably will want to defent his position

Classic Adelaide targa results
They did great too, different class though, not outright. Anyway, I'm not stopping anyone else mentioning others, go for it

Classic Adelaide targa results
Check out the competition faced by the Brisbane Graham-Robertson combo in their 260Z. Richard G's second rally event of any kind, Dave R's first as navigator yet they finished 6th overall, bloody brilliant Nothing fancy about the 260, Bilstein shocks, triple Webers, good cam, (restricted to 7" wide wheels ) the usual modest budget setup. Nothing when compared with the big dollar Porkas. Richard keeps his eye in during the year by doing circuit Sprints, nothing much else. Great work, shows that the S30 can still be competitive in any company Results link here http://www.classicadelaide.com.au/ca/results/results05/r_main.asp

throttle body question
The stock TB is probably not a contributing limitation to your present power output. Having said that, going a bit bigger should not do any harm, providing the ECU can handle it. Have heard that some SR20's have ~65mm TB's.

EOI: Datsun 260C

Has anyone bought from here?
Have a good trip Scott, let us know how you get on.

Another 240z article
Yeh, go Rick go Actually most modern articles about the early Zeds appear to be steals from previous stuff. Nothing new, same old, same old, and the myths and misinformation get perpetuated. The one that really annoys me is the one about the 280ZX being fat. It was actually lighter in total than the US 280Z IIRC, the bare body was lighter than the S30's, it was only the extra comfort and legally required equipment that pushed the total weight up.

Finally Got Em, My New Fat 3 Piece 17" Wheels
A$1800 a set for big custom wheels is good, thought they would be around $500 each at least. Weight? Yeh avatar car was at the Goulburn Nationals, had only fitted the flares a few weeks before then. Looks a bit silly with the 7" road wheels but good with the 8" track wheels. Yours should look brilliant

Finally Got Em, My New Fat 3 Piece 17" Wheels
Yeh, you would need flares with those phat wheels, like em, going to look massive. $? Glad to see that everyone is following my ZG flare lead :tapemouth

88 300zx twin turbo swap?
The twin turbo manual box is a heavy duty item, grab it and mail it to me Have seen a VG30DET engine fitted to a S30, tight fit and a lot of work. You have the VG30DETT engine which is bulkier due to it being a twin turbo, not a single, so I'm guessing it may not fit. Certainly it will be a real bitch to fit, best of luck anyway.

280ZX Wierd Tranny Trouble HELP!
The reverse gear teeth can get burred causing it to jam, usually the result of a poorly disengaging clutch, shifting into reverse while moving or rough treatment. Forcing it could result in a selector bending or some other gear engagement mechanism damage, which could then affect other gears I suppose. Avatar car's gearbox jammed in reverse once, a burred gear was the cause as above. Dismantled the box and used an angle grinder to carefully smooth the leading edges of the gear teeth, in the best bush mechanic tradition

280ZX Wierd Tranny Trouble HELP!
Is the clutch disengaging fully? Sometimes a clutch problem can appear to be gearbox related or cause gearbox problems.

Cant keep my ass on the road
As 71ZZZZZZZZZZZ said, check the rear end suspension movement both sides. For your car to behave like you describe I suspect something fairly dramatic, like a partly seized strut or anti sway bar. Check underneath too for something loose or broken in the suspension.

Springs Rates for Racing... Again
To the original query, if the R tyres are radials, Toyo's are, 3-4 degrees negative front camber will help front end grip. The cheap way to get that sort of camber is to have the struts bent, some suspension places do that. IIRC cross ply tyres do not require near as much camber to work properly.
