  1. For you brake questions look at the DBA (Disc Brakes Australia) site which lists all the specs of the various rotors, very handy. I vaguely recall something along the lines of what you said but also that the steering arms were different.

    Well it just so happens that I now have a spare set of Performance Challengers in 7x15", 18 offset. The choice in this country for Zed wheels is bugger all, very frustrating.
  3. You mean the struts themselves don't you, not the towers which are part of the body work and which house the struts. From what I've heard some of the later Nissan stuff will fit with some modification, can't be more specific than that.

  5. Didnt Kumho withdraw those V700's from sale for a while due to problems like you describe Bret? So your experience is that they are quick but fragile?

    Mines a '77 and the fuel lines were not changed to go EFI. It does have a pickup pump, a surge tank and an EFI pump though.

    Eeeeek, invasion of the killer Watanabe No doubt about it, they do look good but there are others, like the Longchamp XR4 Buddy Club used to do the P1 in a 15 x 8 at a reasonable price but stopped making them just when my order went in for a set for the Zed, bummer. They would have looked interesting. Just for a bit of variety it would be good to see some of the newer styles though, not all of them are blingy and some would look good on the Zed.

    Rather than clutter up Vincent's Wats EOI topic with, errr, banter and comment, how about we post pics of our wheels and those we would like. Mine will be first cab off the rank, as an expression of goodwill These are customised Volk Racing, 15 x 8" for the 225 R tyres. Hmmm, how come the image code doesn't work here, oh well best I can do.
  9. Agree with Brett completely re the Toyo RA1, they do seem to be able to maintain their grip level through many heat cycles. Its a pity they have that blocky tread pattern though, it may be good in the wet but in the dry when new much sideways action, which then risks overheating and buggering them forever.

    Of course Wats are OK for a street car, problem is that competition cars need such wheels for practical reasons, not street cred or whatever. Streeters will pay just about any money because 'the look' is all important. It ended up costing me $500 a wheel for suitable 8" wheels for my competition Zed simply because the streeters were pushing prices up and there was no alternative. Legally and practically streeters could use say 6-6.5" wheels no problem, they just don't need wider wheels than that. Anything more than that is simply rice IMHO. They are not race cars so why try and look like one?

  15. Biker, the two day group will be going via the New England highway. Meeting details are not finalised yet, its really a club run, we've had some unpleasant experiences with idiot driving tag alongs before, I'm sure you understand. Although you seem to be sort of sensible so I may be able to PM you with details later if you like
  16. Biker, some of the members of this club are going to the Nationals from Brisbane. http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/ One lot is doing it in one day, the other over two days. Both plan to get to Goulburn by Thursday night IIRC.

    Thanks, makes sense. There is no doubt that radial ply R tyres like a lot of negative camber, 4.5 degrees seems about right on mine on the front.
  18. No one around here uses the Azenis for anything serious, they are regarded more as a dual purpose tyre, can be used as a daily driver and the occasional track venture.

    Has anyone any thoughts on what tyre pressure should rise by from cold up to when they reach their usual operating temperature? For example, last time mine were checked they rose on average from 28 psi to 36 on a warm to hot day. Which seems a bit excessive to me, 5-6psi rise would be better?

    One thing that strikes me about motorsport in the US is the sheer variety and choice available. And the venues Here the V8 Supercars suck up nearly all the dollars, everything else is struggling, including the viability of club racing circuits. The single GP and Indy events are just once a year tourist things, they do nothing otherwise.
  21. Can you get Dunlop tyres in the US? Their DO1J is an excellent R tyre, available in several compounds but 225 is the widest in 15". Which seems to be the situation with Toyo, Kumho and a few others as well. I've got a set of Kumho 225 45 15" on order, they seem to be the only ones available in a 45 profile, 50 seems to be fairly standard.
  22. If its as good as it sounds then it would be worth close to 12, certainly 10. A lot cheaper to buy a car like that one sounds than to pay half that for something basically ok but well used :classic:

    Why does it matter where the compliance plate is? It is only pop riveted on, there is nothing to stop you moving it and no law against doing so as far as I know. What does matter is that the car's body number on the plate is the same as the actual body number stamped into the body itself. Thats what matters for sure.
