Koni's are worth it if the budget will stretch that far, good shocks make a huge difference. Don't know that you can get them specifically for the Zed though.
  2. Re the pic, see the bottom part where the grease nipple is located, that is pressed metal right? That part on the genuine ones is a machined component which screws into the upper body. One reason why they are more expensive, and better.
  3. Better join our club then DM, we get trade from Metro Nissan The last OE ones cost me around $85 each.
  4. The Nissan ones are made quite differently from the elcheapo alternatives and IMHO are the only way to go, even the boots are better. They are not cheap but then not much decent is. It may be worthwhile checking a non Nissan dealer who specialises in Z stuff, some of them have OE parts at good prices. I assume DM that you buy at a trade discount :bandit:
  5. Yeh, they look ok
  6. They don't look too bad to me, possibly reuseable if you are a tight arse Look also at the bearing surface on the suspension arm, if it is in good condition then that shows that the wlole lot has not been moving around loose. Important to reinstal them correctly.
  7. Yeh it adds up eh DM OE prices are not too bad for our cars, there are some price horror stories out there for more modern bits for other cars. The thing is, after 30 years you replace them once and thats it. I aint going to complain about that.
  8. Prefer the factory suspension arm pivot bushes myself but use poly for things like sway bars and steering rack. After a fair bit of research and use I believe that the factory rubber bushes are superior in performance and durability to any poly suspension arm pivot bushes. For track use I'd keep the factory suspension arm pivot bushes or else use a mechanical bush like rod ends. Which is what most do.
  9. Everyone complains about the various State governments but then they keep getting voted back in. They are a bunch of social engineers and this is just another example of that philosophy at work.
  10. Well the transporter is being redecorated at the moment, updating the kitchen, adding a spa bath. The usual facilities Datsun owners take for granted when travelling. Don't know if it will be finished in September
  11. No fair, you Sydney blokes are going to know that track back to front for the 2005 National's sprint

No digicam Geoff but I've got some pics on film being developed so they could be scanned. Have a look in my gallery, those are the wheels on the car. See also bottom right here except mine all all black in the center, and look a lot better IMHO. http://www.performancewheels.com.au/classic.htm Offset is 18mm positive which is about perfect for 7" on the 260Z.
  13. Thats the 03 results, the 04 event is on shortly. A mate of mine has entered a 240Z which is still being built, nice car

My preference out of the Performance range is the Challenger but paint the centers entirely, they look a lot better than the way the factory do them. Mine were done with black centers, the rims being left unpainted, but there is no reason why they could not be done in a different colour eg to contrast with the car's colour. I'll have a set of Challengers in unmarked condition for sale soon @ $150 each but they are 15"x7".

I'm in the process of fitting a pair of double adjustable Koni 8611-1257 inserts to the front. Working out how to easily access the bottom bump adjusters is the fun part but we're getting there. The reason why I'm going to this trouble and expense with my road/track car is in the belief that being able to greatly increase bump for the circuit will help significantly. Assuming that bearable bump for road use is a lot less than optimum track bump.

If Wakefield Park is a member of the AAA or whatever it is called now then a CAMS licence should not be required. Quite a few of us have allowed our CAMS licences to lapse and instead have AAA licences for QR's sprint series. There are very limited CAMS sprint events in Q, not surprising. BTW we are looking forward to meeting our interstate friends again, both on and off the track.

There are a few of us that I know of from the Q Z Car club that are going, I for one am looking forward to it, particularly to having a go around Wakefield Park. We would like to know asap the classes/classifications and whether or not a CAMS licence is required, preferably not.

If the car is going to be lowered significantly then consider relocating the inner pivot in the crossmember up and out.

Thats a bit harsh Ripper, for all we know he may have saved the car from being scrapped or rusting away. All the Zeds that I know which have been extensively modded have been ratty cars which have been basically rebuilt. I don't think that ordinarily anyone would modify a sound, original car. Another thing with a well modded car is that they are usually looked after well, which can't be said for some of the originals I have seen around.

Ashley, you should be able to sell a few but I don't know of anyone right now. Fibreglass stuff for Zeds is a real pain as to knowing what is available from where. Most of it is not on the net and its almost impossible to view pics of the stuff. I'm in the process of making a mould for a fibreglass front spoiler for my car, basically because I couldn't find what was required, in my case one that flowed air low to the intercooler and worked to give some downforce as well. A bugger of an undertaking but it was either that or do a bodge job.

If not on this forum then a search at HybridZ should give you a few US options. In Oz there are only Performance brand in 8 or 10 inch wide and 15 inch diameter and they are very heavy and a bit ugly looking, around $220AU each. Plus the custom stuff of course, around $500AU, $340US each, some of which is quite good.

Have you spoken with Warren Skimmings about it? Would be a pity to junk it, an advert in Ozdat is also an option. Keep in mind though the later model Sylvia type boxes are stronger, are usually in much better condition than the oldies and have quite good ratios. I've heard of people putting the later model guts into the Z type casing too, which is probably what I'll end up doing with the RB20DET box.
  23. 260DET replied to san_maru_zed's post in a topic in Australia & NZ
Justin, your close ratio box could be worth a bit more than the usual, depends a lot on condition and finding someone after those ratios. Good for a circuit race car. I've got a RB20DET box here that is going behind the FJ20 eventually. The case has cast into it 'RP71C #2', the ratios are 3.32, 1.9, 1.31, 1.0 and .838.
  24. Corolla?!? That is worse than me not turning up at all. Corolla. :classic:
  25. He is a very good driver but I don't feel so bad now knowing he has that much power. Anyway, here are some best times from the Nationals sprint last year, as against my best of 1:06.8017. John Whittaker 1:02.775, Desmond Harold (2.8 na) 1:05.377, Warren Skimmings 1:05.4872. Tell him that I'm going to p**s all over him next Nationals sprint.:classic:
