Front transverse link
Sounds like that could affect the castor setting. If there is no fitting problem I'd tend to fit them in whatever way gives more castor. You need to have the wheel alignment checked though, necessary after any relevant suspension work anyway. Pics would help.

280zx 4x4
Why? Its obvious, look at the pic, so he could drive over the gutter to park on the footpath.

1" or 1 1/16" Datsun M/C? Anyone?
One off an old Nissan Patrol 4WD fits straight on, 1" ID. Don't ask which model Patrol, think it had drum brakes all round. Just be aware they have (removeable) pressure residual valves, mine were binned.

Springs Rates for Racing... Again
Always an interesting situation, the dreaded Z understeer. And sometimes it does not take much to minimumise it or at least get good turn in which is half the battle although a locked diff does not help things. Get a Torsen type if you can, they are brilliant. As Dave indicated, front toe out is a must. Other than that its a matter of playing around although my preference woud be spring rates ~350 all round, light rear bar ~18mm, moderate front bar ~25mm. Having said that, others who have more experience may have a different opinion. Is the car caged? Body rigidity is relevant.

For Sale: Classic 280zx Targa Coupe
Its funny, have had this coupe/2+2 discussion before. Calling a two seater a coupe and a four seater a 2+2 is simply a convenient and accurate way of distinguishing between the two. But for some reason a lot of 2+2 owners seem to want to avoid that term :surprised: On the price, the market will very likely say that a good 2+2 is worth a couple of K. Pity in a way, still a very useable car.

280ZX vs 280Z vs 350Z
Mine is a much modded '77 260Z, there is no doubt that the S30 line are great cars. But I'm looking for another Z project car now and would grab a 280ZX two seat tin top coupe (HS130) if one was available at the right price. One of the most underestimated abused and neglected cars around although the semi trailing arm rear suspension does not help. Still, I have it on good authority that a stock 280ZX is quicker around a race circuit than a stock S30. On the 350Z, I don't like the appearance and don't know anyone who does. A more traditional style like Aston Martin and some Maseratis have managed would have been a winner, there was plenty of Z tradition to draw on but only a few gimmicks resulted. I drove one around a race circuit, it was OK but nothing exceptional, nowhere near as fast as my 260, plus they seem to take a lot of work to get competitive for racing. Other than the S30, I like the HS130, Californian Z31 and the Z32 has potential.

Kumho V70A Tyres?
The setup which has worked well for me in high speed circuit work with the Kumhos is 3.5 degrees negative camber front, 1.5 rear, with a bit of front toe out/rear toe in and a bit more castor than stock. The car is fine to drive on the road with those settings too, quite stable. Prieth, that is the first time I've heard of others running a bar from the tension rod pickup points to the front of the rocker panels. Mine was done like that some years ago, plus it has a removeable tube running across under the sump to the pickup points on each side as well. The end of straight braking area at the circuit I usually go to is very bumpy yet the brakes can be slammed on hard at ~200kph no worries.

Axle boots
What sort of clamps are they? If they are the usual type used on CV joint boots you don't need a special tool. Simply pull the end through the loop hard, bend the end right back and cut off the surplus. Easy peasy

Value of low mileage halfshafts
They should be very saleable, OE quality is better than replacement too.

Kumho V70A Tyres?
Went with Kumho's Dave but at the time only the Victoracers were available in the required size, not the V70A's. Good value for money, I probably will go with V70A's next time. What size are you after?

Open Door when the Z is on a Jack?
The S30 body is quite flexy, particularly compared with the better modern sports cars like the MX5 (Miata). Don't know that it does any harm but obviously keeping doors shut helps to minimumise flex.

why original is best...

What's week about the R180
Mine has this one fitted to a late R180, 270rwhp but no drop clutch starts. Works great. http://members.optushome.com.au/amaxeng/five10/diff.htm

Hows this look?
As a general rule, with the curvy Z car the lines seem to be shown off best with a mid shade metallic. Any colour, not light, not dark. White is a dreadful 'colour' for the Z. Always a personal choice though, as others have said

Brake pads
That rotor looks a bit blue Jon so they should be OK. But its all about feel and performance, if thats OK then no worries.

dash board restorations on the CHEAP!!!
The AU boss of Dashboard Restorations gave a talk on their business to our club meeting earlier this year. There is an awful lot of hand work and skill in doing a restoration, they did my 260 dash a few years ago, great job. UV proofed too, apparently its UV light which does most of the damage in the first place. Their 'factory' is the other side of town from where I live
