Looking for any recommendations for a mechanic in the Baltimore, MD area (preferably northwest part of town) that knows how to work on a 240z. My 240z has been at a shop for over a year now (for an engine rebuild) and the mechanic keeps putting us off month after month. We need to move the car somewhere else where the it will finally be worked on and put back on the road. The engine has already been machined - just need the engine put put back together, NOS complete head put back on and installed back in the car. Thanks in advance!

Thanks guys... I appreciate the suggestions. I'm going to give it a go again tomorrow and I'll report back. @Mark Maras It unfortunately didn't run great for the mile that I got it to run... I'm thinking it may be because the carbs needed to be rebuilt (which I did) and it had old gas in the tank/line (which I flushed). I haven't been able to try running it again until I get this plug replaced. I'm hoping it's not something more major with the engine itself.

Probably not a new story... purchased it from afar (trusted and believed what the seller was telling me about it too much) and had it shipped to me since I was looking for one with minimal rust. Was told that it was a running, driving car... the day that it was picked up by the auto shipper, the seller told me that I would need a tow truck to get it back to my house once delivered.... I was able to get it to start, drove about a mile and the plug on the rear of the head blew a small hole in it and a huge cloud of smoke/steam from that hole ensued. There also another leaking plug on the passenger side of the car... and the radiator itself was leaking coolant too. The only thing it has going for it now is that it's a solid, rust free desert car.

Thanks... I don't have the time or the money to take the head off right now, so I'm just trying to get it back into a driving state. I purchased it from someone who grossly lied to me about the condition and I'm just trying to salvage it at this point without breaking the bank. Unfortunately the hole is too big now to just apply some JB Weld... good idea if I had thought of that (or asked) before I starting trying to pry it out.

I'll either use an expanding plug (yes, I know not recommended) or I have a small air tool to help punch a new one in.

Have to replace it because the engine blew a small hole in it. I know with the core plugs on the sides, they can be knocked loose with a flathead, but I don't have that kind of clearance to do that between the rear of the head and the firewall.

Hi there... I’ve been trying to remove the freeze plug from the rear of the head (without removing the head). I’ve been having a really hard time removing it because there’s not much room between the back of the head and the firewall and it seems like the plug is rusted in there. I also tried heating it up with a blow torch but that didn’t work/help.... and tried freezing it with compressed air which didn't work. Does anyone have any ideas for how I can get the rear plug out without having to remove the head? All I seem to keep doing is ripping it more and more to point that almost all that's left is the rim itself (and about a finger's worth in the top left of it). Any solution that I can buy to “free” it up at all or a tool that may make it easier? I have to imagine someone out there has been able to remove the rear plug before without removing the head. Thanks in advance!
  8. Hi there! I'm looking at purchasing a 240z in the Vancouver, WA area. Unfortunately, I'm all the way across the country, so I was wondering if there was anyone in this community that lives in that area that could take a look at the car for me and provide an independent opinion on it. Please let me know! Thanks in advance.
