@NVZEE thanks for the info, I am giving 2nd thoughts about the CV Shafts after reading that thread about the 510's.

Has anyone ever used the CV Halfshaft Axle Kit? What are your thoughts. Thanks, Clay http://www.wolfcreekracing.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=72&Itemid=61
  4. I would love to know who your Body guy is? I am in El Cajon and am shopping around for a good paint and body shop. My next move is definitely to get the car on a cart and have the frame rails and floor pans replaced as well as replacement of anything else that needs to go. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Clay
  5. Hello everyone. I am in the Navy and have been away from home for about 6 months. I finally got shore duty orders so won't be going underway for the next 3 years. It is good to finally be home. I am ready to get going on this project again. Since I have been gone I have changed my minds on a few things. We will get into all that soon, but for now I wanted to say it is good to be back and stay tuned we are about to get busy. Clay

  7. @Patcon Charles, Thank you for the information. I am definitely going to research it. Clay
  8. Here is the "special part" that is coming from Yahoo Auctions. I know it is not original but have been looking for this for 3 years and honestly did not think it would ever be attainable. Watanabe Falcon
  9. @Patcon the fogging spray sounds interesting. Have you ever used any and what brand was it? Was it a good product. Sorry for all the questions but I really do want to take care of the L24 even though it isn't going back into 1121 right now. Thank you for your input. Clay
  10. Chris, Can you take a picture of the engine number on the block and a picture of the plate on the strut tower showing that #. I am talking to the wife about purchasing another Z "for her" lol. Clay

@jfa.series1 Jim, The level of detail you have put into your car is truly inspiring. I hope i can see your car in a show sometime when I am home on leave. Clay
  12. @jonathanrussell I have also thought about not doing anything to the L24 and just rebuild/refresh when and if it ever goes back into the car. I think you and @siteunseen may be right. Here is the question I am contemplating. Would it be OK to separate the different pieces and store them separately? I say this because I can easily find shelf space for them in the garage. I would leave the bottom end together and in a wood crate completely sealed as well as the head in a smaller wood crate completely sealed. All the attachments (smog pump, alternator...) would be boxed up individually and also placed on the shelf. Thoughts?? @dmoralesbello I would like to say that I had investigated the different products and polled the Z community but that would just be untrue. This is how my decision making probably went down at the time. Now keep in mind I already wanted 1 piece bumpers for both front and rear, that were chromed. So here it goes. "Oh cool there are the bumpers I need!!! *CLICK* add to cart, *Click* Pay Now." I know I should not impulse shop at midnight on a Saturday and I should really do a comparison between different companies, but on this occasion I just took the leap. I have had wonderful experiences with MSA and this transaction was no different. What are your thoughts on Black Dragon and Harrington? @rossiz I am with you. I had already bought the SS Kit from Z Car Source and it has all the bolts and stuff for the bumpers. I had not thought about using the polish wheel or painting the inside of the bumpers. You have definitely given me some food for thought. Thank you. @motorman7 Rich, great info thank you. I know these kits probably do not have every single nut and bolt that I need so I will definitely be looking at Marshall's Hardware. This kit contains the SS Bolts for the Front Bumper. This kit contains the SS Bolts for the Rear Bumper Here are the other kits that I have: I appreciate the feedback that everyone is giving thank you all very much. However, none has still guessed what special part I just lucked into on Yahoo Auctions from Japan. Clay
  13. @jonathanrussell thanks for watching. I think you may be right about this E31 Head. I am going to refresh the L24 engine and box it up for storage. I do not ever plan on selling this car but if I fall on hard times and am forced to sell it I would like to have the original L24 with the E31 Head and the SU Carbs and so forth. Stay tuned for a hopefully cool build thread. I don't know what everyone had rather see. More pics or more text about what I plan on doing. Clay
  14. Just curious. Do you know what the original color was?
  15. hahaha Nope but good guess LOL. I will give you a hint it was made by the same company that made my future wheels (RS Watanabe).
  16. WOW has it been 11 days since I last posted. Well I am sorry for the lack of posting. I had to put the car on the back burner for a few days. Danita (my wife) had to fly home to take care of her grandmother and her mom after her moms surgery. Mom is doing better and the wife is still up North. I have done a few things to the car and I got a few parts in so here you go: My buddy came into town and we got the engine out was not as hard as I thought it was going to be. This was my first engine pull and felt it went smoothly. We also got the dash out, that was a different story. I can honestly say that it was not that fun and I am fearing putting it back in. Taking the exhaust out was fun, I got to play with my cutting tool. After about 20 minutes it dropped right out. Now for some of the bad I found. This car tells a story once allot of stuff is out of the way. It had to have been in a front end collision of some kind because there is evidence of a hatchet job repair. I am glad really because the after pictures are going to show what level of detail this restoration went through. Passenger side under the battery tray. A closer look at the separation of the frame rail. I am really glad I did not drive this car while waiting to start the restoration. I think i could have done a better braze job than this. this is the inner wheel well at the front on the passenger side. Not as bad as the passenger side but there are still some issues that need to be addressed. Looks like a new frame rail was added but they didn't take the alignment bolts out after the non existent weld job. Correct me if I'm wrong but they should have put the screws in welded the seem taken the screws out and spot welded the holes?.?.? Well thats what I think I would have done. Driver side frame rail has been crunched and needs replacement. The weld brok on the front end replacement that holds the radiator. But there is good news. I knew this all needed to get replaced so I place an order for new frame rails, floor pans and the rails that go directly under the floor pans. Guess what order came in??? I also ordered Chrome Front and Rear Bumpers from MSA as well as all attaching hardware. I also bought Front and Rear Strut Bars from CUSCO. I am going to get the rear strut bar painted at the bodyshop to match the safari gold of the car. I think it will look good. I also bought something else but it hasn't come in yet. I will give you a hint. I have been looking for it for 3 years since i bought the car and it just became available on Yahoo Auctions in Japan. See if you can guess what it is. Clay
  17. I want to match the numbers as close to the original as I can. I was thinking something close to this:
  18. Got a few things in the mail yesterday. A crankshaft from a L24. At least I think it is from a L24. The plate in the doorjam is legible but completely unusable. So I decided to replace it. The plate in the engine compartment is missing all together. Plan on getting the rest of the teardown completed this week.
  19. @Careless Thanks...The original engine has a stock bore of 83mm and the E31 head has 42mm/33mm intake/exhaust diameter. I am using the L28 which has a stock bore of 86mm which I will be over boring to 87mm. The N42 head has a 44mm/35mm intake/exhaust diameter. I will rebuild the original L24 and keep it boxed and stored in case I ever want to go back to a completely original engine.

This is what I have been looking for for my 240z. http://m.ebay.com/itm/Data-Plate-Set-Datsun-240Z-1970-73-Door-Jamb-and-Engine-Tags-/222049003343?nav=SEARCH Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club
  21. Hi, Welcome...My advice would be to determine what you want 240/260/280/ZX I decided that for me it was important to get a low # Series 1. Once I figured that out i stayed on CL and Ebay and got what I thought was a great deal for the car that I had always wanted. Good luck in your search and let us know if you need any help. Clay
  22. Thanks...For the most part I am keeping things original. The items that I am modifying I will be refurbishing the originals and boxing them up for storage. Once the restoration is complete, I will see what items I can sale. I think the triples are going to sound very good on the engine I will be building. Clay
