  1. its funny that people sell "loom tape" yet OEM manufacturers just use regular PVC electrical tape such as NITTO etc
  2. Guys, reviving an old thread BUT... I am interested to see if there is any demand at the moment for an RB20/25/30 mounting kit for 240Z/260Z in Australia. These include: Custom engine mounts (suitable for all RB) Custom RB25DET gearbox crossmember suited to 240Z/260Z NEW 200ZR oil pan, windage tray and pick up (very hard to source and expensive) 200ZR engine mounts work but have been found to sit the engine not in an ideal location. Custom sumps I have seen and quoted cost around $700 for a decent quality such as www.highenergy.com.au and I often prefer to use OEM designs anyway. CRS do one for $500 exchange, but I have posted photos of it before and would not use it on my car, you can decide for yourself. These will cost about $950AUD to assemble as there is fabrication and overseas parts sourcing and shipping to contend with. The major bonus I feel is for those who dont wish to fabricate their own parts, you can now fit the engine at home. It also saves on an experimental fabrication by yourself or your chosen workshop as it will be tested and used on my car and removes the time and expense of trial and error as well use using a proven OEM designed sump. Working in the OEM I know what sort of testing and design validation must be performed on every part, I am not sure if your local metal worker can vouch for the same. Reply here if interested, no need for PM. I am in Japan at the moment so if there is interest the kit should be available by January/February.

If you could send me a PM or email I have a few questions for you. If anyone else knows this user from NZ, could you forward contact details to me. He has set preference on the boards not to accept email or PM Thanks James

I wonder if the '94 Accord motors discussed on hybridz ever eventuated?
  5. Photos would be great to see, and it only took a year Not like I am one to talk about project length and cost though
  6. Its about US$270 including shipping for one weather seal kit, obviously it gets cheaper the more people who order or the more parts etc. They are listed on site as $249.95 supply only and apparently it is a new 27 part kit. I cant tell you in $AU as that varies day by day. 4-5 weeks delivery time by sea supposedly. I am ordering regardless in the next week or two so anyone who is interested is welcome to join in and save a few bucks, otherwise you can do it yourself another time that suits you better.

Guys, I am placing an MSA order for weather seals, if anyone else wants anything I am happy to include it in my order which will reduce shipping costs for you. If you are outside of Melbourne I am happy to post the items to you once they arrive, however you may have to weigh up the freight savings versus the additional postage. Let me know if anyone is interested in the next couple of days. James

Just to add a bit of complication, I have redrilled my crossmember pivot points a year or so ago to combat bumpsteer with the stock rack, is this still useable or should I incorperate the rack position to do the same thing on another stock crossmember I have. I like to keep the variables to a minimum. What are the main variables to be considered? If I get the new rack to sit in the same position as the OEM rack, is it just a matter of tie rod length? The angle will be fixed dependant on the rack height right? I have been wading through so much crap on the internet, I think we need to delete the whole web and start again, and everything I have found seems to reference more "arms" then I can remember on the Z. Explain the terminology to me in idiots terms as this is all I can remember playing with: 1) Tie rod/steering arm (connected to the rack and pushes or pulls the wheel) 2) A arm/control arm ( holds the stru assembly in a fixed position from the crossmember) From my limited knowledge, it seems the whole success or failure rests in the position/angle of the tie rod? Are adjustable tie rods the answer? and if i am right so far, then this power steering rack conversion pictured below is a bad example due to the tie rod being at a different angle to the control arm? Therefore the owner should have positioned the rack lower to match the angle of the control arm? The rack should be fitted with a motor inplace then, I am thinking, otherwise the angles will be off when the suspension is compressed? phew, that enough for one day
  9. Precision kit being the one currently on MSA for $249US?

Guys, I am looking at fitting a non standard rack to the Z and the above info is great. If those knowledgable could offer any further advice on positioning of the rack and tierods specifically in relation to bump steer it would be really appreciated. Diagrams are good too, i have attached a generic cump steer theory one, two stock suspension shots, and a power steering rack conversion shot. Please scribble on these to highlight design considerations if you can find the time. Thanks James

Just had a read of it, looks like not a bad product. But if it is not Z specific as such, there is probably no point buying it overseas for me and adding possible warranty claim issues. Thanks for your help though, it was really good. I can now make an informed choice.

    OK, great. Thanks!

PM sent, thanks! So it is a generic kit with some fabrication/customisation required?

http://www.zcarparts.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Category_Code=PWC Has anybody used or seen or heard anything about this kit? I am going to order some weather seals and thought since i am paying for international postage, I may as well buy up everything remotely interesting. Thanks James
  15. Reviving this thread as i have relatives in the states whom I could sweet talk into hand carrying rubber seals back. So how did they go TRS? or anybody?
  16. Sorry, I meant with the standard coating or a regular paint, has anyone had these parts rust out beneath them. Thanks

Thats a Ford BA Falcon, BA being the model code. It was released with large hype after the previous models failure, and as such, has been released in a wild range of colours which can be seen here: http://www.ford.com.au/showroom/passenger/Passenger_Vehicles.asp if interested.
  18. I spent a week or so a couple months ago sanding back an spray painting all my steel suspension and driveline parts with off the shelf rust proof paint from a hardware store. These results here look great, makes me consider doing mine again. My question is, aside from some light surface rust, has anyone actually had these parts rust? I dont see that they hold water, they are a thick guage, and I have never seen it? Thanks

James. Its a 260Z, so do what you like with it, stiffer chassis than the 240Z and less purists will have a stab at you for swapping a motor, thats my justification for mine anyways. My 4th Z which I am building now is also very straight with floors and battery area looking as they left the factory. It was Cuongs old car. I did find rust in strange places though once I dismantled it. You can see photos of the car and the rust in the 2nd link in my signature. The floor was fantastic so I was suprised to find rust in the rear of the drivers rail once the car was sandblasted. I never would have found it otherwise. It was only around a 5c coin size hole, but for it to penetrate right through meant a few inches of it at least were affected. The whole rear of the rail was removed and a new extended version fabricated.

Knotted wire wheel attachment, about $20 ea.
  21. What was your quote? I got a price list ages ago as well, but there were so many peices. It wasnt a kit as such.
  22. drunkenmaster replied to Zpeed's post in a topic in Australia & NZ
I would grind off the coating on the frame rails just for peice of mind. I have done that on 2 cars and found suprises both times.

whats the deal with the rear vents behind the bumper in Z cars? How many times did they change? This is a 76 and has 4 holes, mine is a 77 and has just one hole: And i seem to have seen everything in between as well. :cross-eye

Is that it in primer in the rain you posted earlier? Primer in the rain could be an issue.
