  5. Alright, aside from being dirty, can anyone point out the major flaws in those rubber bushes and general flaws to look out for when replacing them? I can see dags hanging off them, but to me that could be the casting marks just as easily as it could be wear/damage? (thanks for the pics by the way)

  7. OK, i dug out my transverse links with rubber bushes which came with the car still fitted, and to my untrained eye, they still look to be in good shape. same goes with the spindle pin bushes. So basically my question would be, if a rubber bush looks to be ok, should it be ok ? :stupid: If I were to re use them, should I grease them or anything? **trying to upload photo but having website issues**

  9. This is similar to what i have heard/thought also. Are there aftermarket suppliers for rubber bushes or do we have to go to nissan? I replaced a 2 peice steering rack bush on my brothers z31 at a cost of $50 from nissan, so i dont really want to purchase a full set at those sorts of prices.
  10. Dragging up an old thread where do you guys source you rear end bushes from and do you prefer rubber or urethane? My car ready to start to go back together and I'll start with the rear first. Anything else I should replace while I am there?
  11. Mine were good, but after the new point goes on, I wonder how to install the step plate in a way to reduce the chances of water accumulating there. Perhaps sandwich a rubber sheet between the plate and the sill?

Done quite a few times, use the search function on this site and also try hybridz.org. basics you will need are custom made: engine mounts oil sump gearbox mount tail shaft you should also make sure the chassis is stiff enough and you have the suspension and brake hardware to match the power plant.

    What if you want to build your own car and develop you own body control systems, nothing better than a low tech base to start with. I have never been a one for car purism, but for some reason I had an internal conflict about modifying a 240Z. I had no issues whatsover doing what i wish with my 260Z however. Different strokes for different folks.

  16. yes, Cuong is using one of those, bottom outlet is on the opposite side I beleive and mounting tabs line up but need new holes drilled. As far as viability of theis whole endevour is concerned, lets see where it goes. I think a certain level of intelligence is required for anything you do, perhaps if we stick to things that have actually been done and worked, it may be better?

Hi Guys, I was hoping to develop some sort of definitive list of parts easily used from other makes of cars to upgrade perished or out of date Z systems (not including motors) I have noticed a lot of mention with various mazda and honda parts, so if we coallate all this info in one spot I think it will be a very useful resource. Items that spring to mind are: Radiators Air Conditioning Systems Heater Assemblies Blower motors Power steering racks Fuel tanks Feel free to add more based on your own experience Please try to be MAKE, MODEL and YEAR specific and include a short summary of what modifications if any are required. Thanks guys. ************************************************* THE LIST SO FAR: Toyota Hilux Brake calipers (year?) V8 Holden Statesman Radiator (year?) - Requires redrilling tabs, bottom hose is on opposite side 1984 Nissan Pintara Top Radiator hose interchangeable with lower 240Z hose. Light trimming required. Datsun 1600 front door handles interchangeable. Exact likeness still in question. Mack Truck 54mt314dp88 speedo cable for 240Z. 280ZX Radiator for 240Z/260Z. Use bottom mounting holes and redrill top mounting holes to ensure bonnet clearance. NOTE: hangs a bit lower than standard.
  19. Even if you got a perfect FM Modulator, FM by nature will lose too much sound quality to be a good option.
  20. c'mon You can have the alternator and L series air con compressor for free with any 240z carbies, manifold, and air filter purchased.

I don't even own a welder :classic: they have a gearbox mount for the VL auto box I think it was, but out of all the mounts I think the gearbox mount I think would be the easiest to make, I might even have a crack at it $500 is a lot but off the street customs jobs at places I have asked are $600-$800 plus they need my car which is hardly drivable.
  22. Both are on the $500 mark. Sump 1: By CRS and you need to give an exchange sump. Sump 2: You need to pay shipping from NZ, which may not be too bad depending on customs. Shipping for my motor was very reasonable, 1/3rd of the customs price.
  23. Sump 2 is done in new zealand by the engine builder I used. Sump 1 is by CRS, thats why I said they are questionable. No photos of the mounts yet, not test fit yet so I cant say how they are but the RB30 is the tallest of the RB's so I am a bit worried about bonnet clearance.
