My Rb swap - incase you're interested
The RB family use twin cam crossflow heads, unlike the L series family they replaced. They are a newer motor, make big power very easy, have very tough standard internals, and are more drivable and fuel economical than the L series. Check this out: http://www.fullboost.com.au/cars/readerscars/sinisha240z.html 355HP AT the wheels. Not that the L series doesnt have attractions of its own, but they are more taste/personality traits rather than on paper figures.

My Rb swap - incase you're interested
Hi, Photos on your website would be great. I am a little behind you in my swap. I have my 260Z body ready to go and I have a freshly rebuilt RB30DET waiting to go in. I have bought some engine mounts that will supposedly do the trick but time will tell, I am also looks at a sump so to see yours would be good. I assume you are using the RB20DET g/box, how did you go with the g/box cross member? You mentioned the standard one lined up but it sounds too easy? Once I get my garage setup a bit more I will take some more photos and have a website running too. James

Bad day at the races
Geez Ash, very sorry to see that. What are you options now? Is you brothers car on the cards or are you going to strip the parts and start on a new base or the unthinkable? I was going to give you a ring on the weekend as I was carting engines around etc in my new ute and was going to drop by but lucky I didnt interrupt you in your time of "mourning"

What I did on the weekend
I had to restrain myself. I am looking in the trading post this week for a large roller door to complete my newly concreted garage (read: a lot of work). I thought it was best to leave it covered in the off chance of and horizontal flying rain shooting in

a silly sill
Well many of the locals have seen my car on the rotisserie at zworx and more have seen photos. Going cheap is not something I have done on this car At the same time if you are not after a "perfect" car as even the best of them wont be, I dont see anything wrong with just welding a new sheet over the sill after cutting out the rust with a grinder. It is still a sill and not exactly rocket science with no moving parts but if, as in my case, you are worried about rust returning and ruining your nice new glasurit paint job, then yes, properly may be better
-
a silly sill
Cam, I should have mentioned this the other weekend. On one of my other Zeds I was getting the sills welded up at a panel beater near Zworx and it was only going to be just over $100 a side. they are a bit further down boundary rd and called I&S bodyworks or soemthing like that. This would be a single sheet replacement however, Rob was showing me something about the 3 layers he contends with in his repairs. James

MELBOURNE: 280zx for sale
Hi, I am selling my 1982 Nissan 280zx. Details: 2.8L straight six with electronic fuel injection 5 speed manual rwd 4 seater removable targa roof electric windows, mirrors and power steering Car is not immaculate but it is a very good and reliable daily driver/runabout. I have used it to get me to work every day for the last six monthes without fail and with almost pure freeway km's, the car sees just short of 700kms from a 70L tank. The car also comes with 6 monthes registration and a few small spares. The car does not come with RWC however I did get a RWC 6 monthes ago when I first registered it and nothing has changed since then. I will provide the buyer with the 6 month old RWC and the details of the place that provided it and I see no reason it shouldnt pass again with anything more than the regular windscreen change that they all seem to demand. Reason for sale is I have bought a ute. $1450 or best offer

Got my new 260!
Sounds like a good all round package, how straight is the body? As my project steps on the $20,000 mark, I can't help but wonder what something like that costs? please PM if you wish

RB26 240Z hits the dyno :)
Yup, RB internals are fairly tough. My RB30 is on its way home too cuong and my engine bay is all painted up ready to accept it. Will be intersting to compare notes once running.
-
Need a new roof for my Z
Yep, everyone who has seen it says its the straightest Z they have seen in a long time, probably worth the extra $$ i shelled out for it (thanks cuong). On another note, the blue 2 seater chopped up out front had its roof cut off and transplanted onto my friends 2 seater by Rob late last year. No idea on cost as work there tends to be lump sum and not itemised.
-
Need a new roof for my Z
Yeh, whose is it? Its been there for ages, the donor RB26 R31 was there well before my car went in. What state was my car in, havent seen it for a week or two.
-
Need a new roof for my Z
Did you see my Z on the rotisserie?

What I did on the weekend
Its probably not worth it anyhow, those boxes are only around the $500 mark locally on the 2nd hand market.
-
What I did on the weekend
Yes I noticed that, but I was trying to get at that boxes in general might be cheaper over here. My freight isn't organised yet, but I will let you know this week who it is done through. where are the boxes coming from?
-
What I did on the weekend
how much are those boxes? I heard rb25det boxes command $2000+NZD, which is approaching double what they are worth here. That made me want to look for boxes locally.
