  1. I plan on using the Edelbrock surge tank, pump and pressure regulator all in one for my system. https://www.edelbrock.com/adjustable-universal-efi-sump-fuel-tank-assembly-67gph-35-90-psi-36032.html Also, is your fuel tank for sure clean? I've been having issues with cutting out lately and I think it's sediment in my fuel tank that clogs the screen on the pickup. I'm planning on dropping the tank and having it repaired this fall.
  2. Thanks Zed Head, That's what I'm planning on doing at the moment. A little $$, but seems like a good quality piece. Jegs has the Professional Products reproduction euro style dampers that I'm planning on attaching it to. I didn't realize that the turbo had come with a crank angle sensor, interesting. Still doesn't explain why it's on a 1973 240Z with "one owner 1973 Datsun 240 Z with the original six cylinder factory four-speed, 66,212 original miles" ?
  3. In my daily perusal of CL I ran across an interesting photo in this posting. Photo 22 shows what looks like a crank trigger wheel on a very stock looking 1973 240Z with supposedly 66k miles on the clock. It does have an aftermarket coil, but the smog pump, carbs, and distributor are still in place on the pretty unmolested looking engine. Any ideas on what we are looking at or why a carb car with a distributor would need a crank trigger? My only guess is there's some kind of different ignition timing going on somewhere. I'm starting an L28E build with Megasquirt for my 240Z and am looking at crank trigger options. Thanks, K
  4. Funny, I'd like to find a really nice 5/74 built 260Z someday as that's my "build date" too . My 240Z is older than I am.
  5. It's 3.545 which wouldn't be the best with the 80-83 close ratio transmission. I'm thinking I'll swap a FS5W71C in later this year. With a 205/55R15 tire at 23.9" diameter it would be roughly the same final ratio as the stock trans/diff/tire combo.
  6. It's the noise that concerned me the most. I went ahead and bit the bullet and picked up a 2015 STI diff with 17k miles on it here locally. I paid $600, and have ordered the stub axles for another $375. At the moment I've got more money than time with things getting even busier at work later this year, so I made the call. I finished painting the suspension parts yesterday and my big orders from MSA and Courtesy with bushings and everything should arrive soon. I may be able to get everything back together by the end of the weekend if everything shows up on time.
  7. My concern with just picking up another Datsun diff is that it's going to be in the same or worse condition than mine. You say they're durable, but is this kind of wear normal for a 130k mile car? Maybe my car has 230k miles :-) An STI R180 can be had for around $600 on EBay it seems. The stub axles are $400, so it's going to come in around $1000. I have no idea how much it would cost to have the Datsun diff rebuild, but I'd be surprised if it's less than $500
  8. Earlier this month I purchased a 1972 240Z that hasn't been on the road in a while. I only drove it a little in the first week or so that I bought it as it wasn't registered yet, and the brakes were pretty bad. I definitely noticed a good amount of driveline noise, even at very low speed. Also, when turning the rear wheels by hand, you could hear and feel some notchy gear sounds coming from the diff. I'm now in the middle of a full suspension and brake rebuild with all the suspension components and the differential out of the car. The magnetic drain plug had some metal shavings, and it seems that the noise is coming from the spider gears Youtube video link I'm guessing that these are signs that this diff is on it's last legs? The stub axles aren't cheap, but I'm leaning towards swapping a Subaru R180 at this point and getting an LSD in the process instead of rebuilding this one. I had planned on doing this at the same time as a 5 speed swap so that I could match the ratios well, but I'd hate to put a bad diff back in the car when it's already out.
  9. I think that this is my plan for wheels. MSA rewinds, futofab black bumpers, and maybe some sport mirrors all painted a gunmetal gray to match the rear finishing panel. I think it will compliment my 112 lime/yellow car nicely. Now just to choose 15" or 16". I like the look of 15" better for sure, but tire choice is becoming tougher.
  10. Not much of a story. I came out of the DMV and it was parked next to me. Never talked to the owner, but was a nice surprise. The work has begun, all new brake parts on the way among other things. The cooling system leaks like a sieve!
  11. I'll definitely be going this year. Lots of work to do to get it ready to make that trip, but will hopefully driving a Z. The current state of affairs...
  12. Thanks Jeff for digging that out for me. I ended up finding one locally though that while different, I think will work. I haven't picked it up yet, so I'm not sure whether the horn part is welded to the flange or no. If so, I may drill out the spot weld and weld it onto mine.
  13. Just going through things on my newly acquired 1972 240z and when I pulled off the air filter housing, it looks like I have a part missing. I'm assuming that it should look like this: So I need the horn/trumpet/velocity stack part that must be a slip fit onto this flange Thanks, Ken
  14. At the DMV today

  16. Well, she's home. I'll head to the DMV first thing in the morning to try and get the registration all taken care of. It was a long day of driving back and forth, but worth it. The car is a really solid, honest car. The seller had the undercarriage steam cleaned which is why it photographed so well. The paint looks to have been polished some, but I don't see any spots where they burned through. It is definitely a time capsule, and will need some cleanup. Seller didn't have both plates on hand, said he'd find the other one and mail it to me. No service history, but i guess you can't have everything. Turn signal switch not working, not sure if the DMV will test them or not. I've already found a rare restoration part that I'm hoping to go pick up tomorrow which I'll share once I've secured it. I guess the protocol would probably be to start a new thread over in the S30 section about build progress.
