considering selling my '72 240z
i've had this car for appox 9 months, people who follow the Qld sprint racing (ie leyburn,gatton) will know Glenn Stewarts old car. It is fun but i have other projects that need my time /money. So I'am considering selling it. Motor/body specs: Matching numbers/ original e31 head Tripple 45mm webbers on lynx manifold- with trumpets and sock filters-with spare jets emulsion tubes E31 head -recently welded to get water jackets away from cylinders- fresh valve job. Tighe cam number 359- appox 74 degree see: www.tighecams.com.au/profiles3/nissanlseries xr3000 crane optical ignition new extractors and 2 1/2 " exhaust Radiator has been "reroded" reco'ed 260z gearbox- lightened flywheel motor was reco'ed professionaly ie : every head bolt helicoiled into block-cam towers shims used in head etc HARD suspension with koni shocks Kmac sway(anti roll) bars front and rear Kmac camber kit I've taken the rear spoiler off but still have it. Sun/targa roof possible?
i have to agree with alpha.. dont do it, and if you have to have one, buy a pre butchered one. People are buying good roofs for 240z to replace sunroofs that where installed 10-20-30 years ago. People have different options about 260z 2+2 -but I still think they are a jap classic shape(2nd only to the 240z and 2 seater 260z) and it is a shame to f*up their nice lines. if you want a "open" car, buy a aus('89+) capri or a 280zx T.

just curious on jet sizes(air and main), choke sizes etc on 6 cyl datsuns???? would be good info for us motor "fiddlers"

electric fan -temp sensor any screw in?
Is there a screw in temp sensor(for a fan) for the e31 head, in the side of the thermistat housing(my has a plug) Something from another car/make perhaps. any ideas?

SOLEX/WEBER dcoe,ida jets- what do they look like?
I was buying some weber jets off this guy and when I got there the jets looked weird- they were threaded- but my DCOE ones are non-threaded. Does this mean they are IDA jets? He also had other jets with SOLEX stamped on them-these were threaded too- are these mikini jets? there was hundreds of both weber and solex jets(air and mains) SO id really like to know what they are for. 89mm pistons FOR A L28..From wot motor?
hi all, I was planning on doing the ld28 crank and 89mm piston thing BUT i think i'll go the lamer standard stroke way. I am hoping on keeping the std l28 crank and fitting some 89mm (120 thou over) pistons that should give 3.0l. Does anyone know if any standard 89mm pistons will fit, with correct piston height etc(even with diff rods)? The L series engine calc program is good but i still want more details before I go ahead.(like sussing out oversize head gaskets etc) Has anyone done this?

weber fed ZEDS please read this
Hi all, I was wondering if many of us would share our weber jet sizes vs different setup L series 6's.. Just to help others tune their weber fed ZEDs. My 240z has the original block bored out to around 2.5l with a appox 280-288 degree cam or 74 degree depending on how you read them(tighe cams au-will edit with cam grind number later). No porting- valve grind - 6,3,2 extractors 2.5 inch system. Tripple webber 45's on lynx manifold running: 135 mains 155 air correction 32mm chokes f2 emm tubes 35 accerator pump jet f955 idle jets "sock filters" This setup gets me appox 21 MPG and revs out very hard above 3500rpm.. BUT is a bit coughy and sick up to 3000rpm which i think is mainly due the "big" f2 emm tubes and the small 35 acc pump jets.. I also think that the 155 air corr jets is a bit small. I hope to change the emm tubes to f11(or f15), the acc pump jets to 50's and the air corr jets to around 190-200..and i will post here when i do to show progress. Anyone else wanta share their setups? btw anyone else have any extra jets for sale in au(pm me!!)???

australia strut braces/oil cans?
I'am chasing some(front and rear) strut tower braces for my '72 240z.. Most ive seen have been painted mild steel one BUT i'd much prefer some stainless ones.. Anyone know of a supplier? I'am also chasing a oil catch can that is stainless steel, and would prefer one with 2 inlets-for block and head- so it would look pretty with my L24.

I'am still not convinced that the 260z 2+2 is such a bad car.. I think if you bought one for $10k and it was mickey mouse, it would be a much better car then other cars around the $10k price area-like a 5 year old lancer/laser/323 or a 10 year old commodore/falcon- Id take the 260z over them without even hesitating. I currently have both a 240z and a 260z 2+2-- and the 240z does look better- but at the cost of 2 seats and the 2 + 2 still "feels" like a zed. But the 280zx is different- its a lot too plasic looking, "square" and 1980s styling for my taste-same as early 300zx.

dont laugh at the $12000 for a 2+2 260z- There was one up here in qld advertised in the local (country) paper for $10000- I gave the guy a call- because i wanted to know what a 10k 260z looked like- and it had already been sold, after 2 weeks it apparently had only 60000ks on the clock- vgc etc

The 240zs are at my brothers in Brisbane-- please email him on acanthophis@dodo.com.au-- I'll try to get some pics of his cars,, and find out what condition they are in.(i think one of them is getting new sills welded in at the panel beaters soon, and thats just about all the rust gone) I've got the 260z and its is (relatively) good nick- with only a few cases of localized rust- unlike others that i've looked at buying , that had generalized rust. It wouldnt take much to make it RWC apart from a bit of panel work.- it has extractors/ electric ignition/ dome top carbs/5 speed/ it will make a good car.~$1500-$1300 I'am still got the tokico shocks for sale- new- for 260z rear $150 part no 3012 and the locked 4.6 r180 diff..(great for race zed/1600) $200

extra horse power from fancy sparkplugs
I've got a old article from a hot 4's magazine that compares different "performance" spark plugs on the same motor on a dyno.. I think champian golds were the best(by a couple of KW's on a honda civic--i think) Is there any newer dyno tests on the new style of plugs.??? ie bosch +4, denso iranim(or something) the new NGK's etc Each of the companys have a before and after dyno graph on their own website and "claim" magical power gains ,but i'd prefer to see a independent magazine article..the companys claims seem a bit "snake oil" magic to me. Any ideas(or tech websites???)

I've got some new tokico shocks for sale - part number 3012. They are for the rear of a 260z(maybe fit front? or even 240z??)---I'll post up tokicos website when i find it.--- $150 for the pair ono in qld but can send COD anywhere in aust. Complete 260z 2+2- needs a bit of work, a bit of rust but no where as bad as some(floor& rails good)good seats -5 speed-english SU- new front end bushes, tierods, rack etc- some pics on my gallery(dark blue one- not messy anymore) but will get some more --$1300 ono r180 diff -- 4.6:1 locked, great for rally/circuit $200 ono 2 sets of true SU's - 2" huge jag SU's on 260z manifold(will fit 240z) needs lingage finished but very little work needed $180 ono 1 3/4 SU's on 260z manifold- needs a clean up, off L28 $140 I've got a few other bits and pieces ,so please just ask. i need a few 240z bits- L pieces of chrome from the top of rear windscreen seal. rear hatch badges the interior black trim for the inside of the drivers side back window. and 1 million of tiny little bits and pieces that I cant think of right now. email me on datfreak@dodo.net.au for enquires.or private message me
