  1. Nice car! You may consider driving it back. The cars are reliable. Budget a day to change fluids and check a few things before departing. Just line up enough Z friends on this form along your route as emergency pit-stops.

Beautiful pup. I'm sorry for your loss.

Think of the circuit being like a charged storm cloud: The wire and the injectors stay at +12V DC, as they are always connected to the +12V feed when the FI system is powered. The injectors typically stay at +12V nearly all the time. When the engine rotates, the distributor sends a signal to the ECU (as well as sparking the plugs). The ECU uses this impulse determine when to fire the injectors and for how long. The ECU fires the injector by shorting the +12V charged injector line through a transistor to ground. This causes a large current to flow through the injector. (It is like a storm cloud suddenly having a path to ground and discharging). The duration of the current flow is proportional to how long the injector stays open. (The injector is simply a solenoid). There are 6 "current limiting resistors" upstream from the injectors that prevent too much current from burning up the injectors. If I recall correctly the ECU fires all injectors at the same time and twice per 4 crank strokes.

Your car will have a new car smell!
  5. Hi esmit208, I bought some rims for my wife's Ridgeline in Melbourne a year ago. I usually work in Florida every year or two and would be delighted to help you tune the next time I am there. I'll give you fair warning.

  7. More of those square-ish wing mirrors in RHD Australia:
  8. Interesting: Some of the LHD test cars had wing mirrors... but the conical shaped type.
  9. Glad you like the info Chris! Yes the top two colour photos are from the car show in Brussels. It was held in Jan 1970 so that LHD is one of the early birds from 1969. The B&W photo is the same car appearing in the Oct 1970 car show in London. It seems Nissan tried to ship two cars to the London show but they got caught up in red tape so Nissan brought the white one over from Belgium as a fill-in. An F1/Race car designer (Robin Herd) is reported to have purchased the car at the London show and its existence is known. I will guess that the white 240z did car show duties in continental Europe from Jan to Oct. so it seems to be an interesting car like HLS30-00006 to 8...... more research is needed to track its path in 70. Current photos and details of the mirrors will be nice to explore too. I will guess that Alan knows where this car is and probably has seen it.
  10. Looks like more info in this Car Magazine Nov 1970... not on Ebay presently
  11. Hmmm just found out a chap named Robin Herd bought the Belgium/UK Z above which was white (not yellow).... more research needed.
  12. Looks like the same LHD car in the Brussels Jan/70 did the European show circuit. This seems like the same yellow white one in Oct/70 at the British International Motor Show:
  13. I had this problem with 25mm fuel level on 40DCOE 151. I could not tune it out. I dropped the fuel level to 29mm and was then able to tune properly.
  14. The red's original cut out was cut out further to accommodate a Stebro dual tip in the early 1970's
  15. Give the exhaust a good shake to see if anything is hitting. If you push the muffler way up in the open cavity, it looks nice but it gets much louder in the cabin. A long round muffler would be much better than an offset oval/rectangular one to minimize this. Here are photos of the muffler tucked in nicely but very loud.
  16. Below is an early Australian HS30 with similar mirrors:

I think I remember there being two marks on the pump or spindle that could be confused the last time I did this. Just keep turning the spindle and re-seating until it is right. It is not that difficult to do if you are off. One of the things to be careful with is to align the pump with its mounting holes in the timing plate well before you push the assembly home. If you insert then spin the pump to align its bolt holes you will turn the whole thing off. The other thing to watch for is the tang for the distributor. It is offset and makes a small semi circle and large semicircle when looked at on-end. The small semicircle should be on the front side when seated.

    Here you go:
  20. Passini says that for the same choke size, the atomized gas can precipitate more on exit after the venturi in say a 45mm throat than in a 40mm throat. I think this would hit you more at the start of the mains coming in when the air flow is lower and the momentum of fuel picked up in the aux venturi is low. At higher rpms it is probably nil. Be prepared to tune / optimize in the mid range.
  21. I just received a British "CAR" magazine issued in March, 1970. It has coverage of the Jan. 1970 Brussels Motor Show and a couple of interesting photos of a yellow white 240z. It seems to be a LHD Euro Spec as it is missing the rear side markers. It also has interesting fender (wing) mirrors. They seem to be chrome and much like the rectangular door mirrors. The tail lights are red and orange. There seems to be a top front bumper bar and a tow hook under the rear bumper. I can't make out the hubcaps or wheel type. This too may be the article that starts the Goertz myth as it bumbles his involvement as well as Yamaha involvement in the S20 DOHC engine. The unnamed author seems to have received the message loud and clear that Nissan hoped to sell this product in large numbers to the waiting Americans going "crazy". Note: The 240z shown in Geneva in March was a dark colour with the usual 240z single door mirror and rear side markers. @kats and Alan, this is perfect timing for your Euro thread! This car may be as important as HLS30-00006/7/8 and still be out there. It would be interesting to track down. Enjoy!

KATS that is fabulous! I heard the C rubbers were to stop women's skirts from catching.... but in the prime of mini-skirts, I can understand why it did not seem to go into most production cars. btw some of the early 240z's tested in NA had the C Rubber It is on in some of the USA/Can testing in Q4 of 1969 (Brasso and desert) It is on HLS30-00008 on the cover of Jan 1970 R&T It is also on the yellow unknown early Z photo below ...and in the very early 240z studio shots.

Maybe the rotor cap is 180degrees off? Is it the right one?
