  1. If I was at Hitachi or SU "back in the day" I would have made the bowls so the whole darn thing is adjustable up and down by 1cm.... forget bending the float tabs over and over again. Mikuni and SK have externally adjustable floats but it is a somewhat complex set of parts and the bowl is internal. Just raising and lowering an external bowl seems to be the easy route for the early SU design.
  2. The photo above gives me an idea, I think we have to start measuring tools by how many "beers long" they are or their weight in "beers".... sort of like horses and hands.

Looks the same! Great detective work. Dept. of Revenue seems a bit odd for a car sticker? Does it mean the import tax was paid on the car by Nissan or does it mean the sales tax was paid by a buyer, or does it provide a window for paying the tax? 8.5 month expiry date? What expires?

  9. I think you can raise funds for the beer by "extracting" all the classic cars from Cuba and selling at Barrett-Jackson. Operation "Barricuba"

  18. I read the debut will the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show in November. Enjoy the F1 season until then!!!
  19. I owned a 91 Miata (fyi Mr K. and Mr. Matsuo also bought these when they first came out in 1990 so we are in good company). I like the 99/2000 Miata's the best because they look ok, and handle better than the early (which says a lot) but they also have more cabin room than the early ones. I also have an S2000 and it is much nicer than a Miata for creature comforts plus it has the extra room. The engine is one of the best in the world with one of the highest HP/litre ratios. It was developed by the Honda F1 engineers (not the current crop...poor Alonso). The power of the S2000 is what makes in nicer than the Miata... however I think the 99/2000 Miata handles better... maybe due to less weight. The S2000 has a great 6 speed transmission and LSD too. It is built to be driven hard and Honda reliability. They all come with leather interiors and 6sp manual transmissions. You can now get a nice S2000 for ~ $10,000. I think you would like the electric roof and quieter top-down driving. (oil change and valve adjustments are EZ) btw this is "Blue" I changed my handle recently.
  20. I work with modern fibre optic submarine cables and enjoy researching the early telegraph cables (as much as I enjoy Z's... so those who know me understand the extent ). I was recently perusing historical Nissan publications and came across this 1962 document: The footer contains an interesting reference: Cable Address "NISMO" Tokyo. NISMO was the shortened address (International Identifier for the Telegraph Office) used by NISsan MOtor corporation to receive telegraphs. The short form allowed for the sender to use fewer characters in the telegraph/teletype message to reduce costs. If you research the telegraph messaging techniques, compressing words and acronyms were from well formed and standardized methods used long before the similar ad hoc usage in texting. "Cable" comes from Submarine Telegraph Cable which was used to describe the messaging system used for ~100 years prior to 1962 for international telecommunications. In 1962 International telephone calls were quite rare. The first telephone cable across the Pacific was COMPAC in 1963 that could only carry 80 calls simultaneously. So NISMO was first used in Telecoms before Motorsports. Now you know the complete story
  21. You may consider selling the Z and Miata to get an S2000. A nice compromise.
