If Jason does not want it, I'll buy it from you Steve. I have two 69's but only one correct 2400 VC.
  3. Show us that cool ultra-rare VIN stamp error in grey... I can't get enough.
  4. Looks great! Maybe check your camera for white balance setting. It can throw off the tint. You can correct for it

Don't line up the dots and seat. do this: 1. Line up dots. 2. Turn spindle ~ 10 degrees CCW (ref from top as viewed from distributor end). 3. Seat pump with spindle. If it is still not enough repeat but with 20degrees in step 2.
  8. Still snow in the yard here
  9. Digital Media Player for Garage... tunes make it a fun place to work. Got the Brake Disk Lathe up and running. Gonna level my real lathe and start turning...baby oh yeah. BIG THANKS CO!!! I'll do the first cut in your honor with one of tools you gave me!

All you have to do is to go to TDC, drop the oil pump, align the dots on the shafts, re-seat oil pump with one bolt, get up off the floor and have a look at the distributor end for the smaller semicircle part to be front and slightly down pointing towards the radiator inlet. Some times you have to do this twice to get it right. Right of passage.

Edit: You can rotate plugs at Cap by 1 post CW to do a quick and dirty fix.

Yup.. Spindle is off. btw It rotates CCW. It is retarded thus ths back firing. It is igniting the fuel late when the exhaust valve is open and the combustion chamber now includes the exhaust. You can rotate plugs at Cap by 1 post CW to do a quick and dirty fix. Get your total timing at 3000rpm ~36 degrees and you are in the ball park for further tuning. All of us have seen or experienced the shifted spindle syndrome.... don't think you are special Welcome to the club!

It should be just past #1 by the amount of advance, Did you confirm the spindle tang alignment with the oil pump?
  18. 240260280 replied to sweatybetty's post in a topic in Help Me !!
Sounds like you are not advanced enough. Depending on the distributor mount, your reference for where #1 on cap is located can vary. Quick check would be to rotate your plugs in the distributor by 1 then retry. It could also be the oil pump spindle out of alignment with the distributor.
  19. Ow! My Eyes! That shiny engine does it to me every time.... Mike you need to post warnings! I'm bringing my welder's mask to Austin!

Remember the engine and drive train vibrations in early 240z road testing in USA/Canada. Well Honda has it in their 2017 F1 cars: "We did some good progress in the mono-cylinder on the dyno, but as soon as we complete the V6 engine we had many issues. "What we achieved in mono-cylinder is at a very good level, but when we transfer exactly the same specification to the V6 engine it doesn't work. We are very disappointed. But it was too late that we noticed that – at Christmas. "After we understand the issues this was the time we need to confirm the final specification - we needed to have some compromise." Honda has encountered further problems with instability and vibrations since the engine was installed and run in the McLaren MCL32. "We have huge vibrations," added Hasegawa, who says Honda's new engine currently produces "almost the same power" as the 2016 unit. "The only thing I can tell is that on the dyno we didn't have such a big issue - when we have a gearbox, driveshaft and tyre it has some resonance. I'm not blaming the chassis; we have to realise the situation on the dyno as well."

I miss photos of Grumpy Cat!
  22. Great info Kats! You sure find unique and interesting information. Sherlock!!! Given the defacto world's best small sports car producing area was Europe and that the export 240z Sports was tuned for USA market and the Fairlady HS30 for Japan, it seems prudent for Datsun to make a Euro Spec when entering that market. The Australian market Z is interesting in that it does not have the side markers and the front turn lights are clear. I like its looks the best

It's only the clock that eventually stops ticking... so that you can hear the valves better.
