Harbor freight has a transmission floor jack for $99.00. it makes it so that you can remove the transmission by yourself with the car about 2 feet up on jackstands. I did it this past winter to replace the clutch and rear main seal. It helps to have an extra set of hands to line it up for re installation, however. It becomes pretty apparent just how bad the rear seal can be leaking when the transmission is out of the way. Perhaps the PO put some sort of "engine restore" substance in it. I've never used anything of the sort, so I'm not sure what it looks like, except for the types in clear containers sitting on the shelves at auto parts stores. They look to have some metallic qualities.

Could it be that the head(or gasket) is out of spec cold, and when it gets hot closes the gap? Many a mark III Supra owner has had a bad head gasket on their 7MGE's due to improper bolt torque, or something like that. We're lucky the L series don't come with that problem.

Is it just me or do the visible engine parts seem cleaner than the rest of the car? Maybe it runs. It also comes with a tow package.

i went up there today, to where my friend told me he saw it. it was gone. It's been the busiest 2 weeks in about a year for me, and missed on 2 cheap S30's. I'll have to sacrifice something to the car gods.

I'm thinking of contacting the seller. My friend has a flatbed and a trailer. It's a busy week unfortunately,. Not sure if the S30 is different, but on my ZX, i had to hoist the engine slightly to obtain the space required to free the pan from the area around the crossmember.

Hopefully the ticking noise can be remedied with a valve lash adjustment...

I've used 30ft pounds for the caliper to mounting bracket bolts for both my `90 Camry and my `80ZX. They both have similar front caliper designs, so I used the Toyota spec. for the Z. I'm curious to know a torque spec. For the Z as well. Too much torque on those caliper bolts can be problematic. Sent from my N9130 using Tapatalk

If the idle air adjustment screw on the AFM is out of spec, will ambient air temperature affect cold idle? I can't remember what happens when I tighten mine all the way in while the engine is running , but I seem to remember it stalling out. Sent from my N9130 using Tapatalk

Thanks. It's possible then that someone had it apart at some point in it's life, and did not install circlips upon re-assembly, as there was no gasket, just RTV between the diff case and the rear cover.

Is the engine producing any type of smoke out of the exhaust when it's running with the oil cap on?

I pulled the cover of the back of the original differential. I don't see any circlips, or evidence that they grenaded inside. Is it factory RTV in lieu of a gasket on the rear cover? It would make sense, I know Toyota used their FPIG and Honda had its Hondaseal or whatever. Sent from my N9130 using Tapatalk

I had a vacuum leak at the intake/exhaust manifold gasket several years back. It caused what seemed like lean misfire symptoms. I sprayed throttle body cleaner along the mating surface of the intake manifold and head with the car running and found that the idle would surge where the throttle body cleaner entered into the intake leak. I got the halfshafts back from NW driveline. They did great work. Even painted them. I've put everything back together and went on a test run with some mixed city/freeway driving. Don't hear any clicks or any other abnormal noises. The diff whined a bit at first but shut up after a bit of driving. I guess I can move on to other things now. Thanks to all who pointed me in the right direction.
