Looking to Trade 280Z for 280ZXT
Is anyone open to the idea of trading their 82-83 280ZX Turbo for a '78 280Z? I'm looking for a mostly stock turbo car to maintain, drive on the weekends, keep up with and tinker with. My current Z is more designed to modify for track or engine swap or build to your liking. Rust free example from Southern Cali / Arizona. Located in Fort Worth, TX and willing to drive within 5 hours.

Shell V Power Nitro+
Must admit, one tank of Shell V Power Nitro+ in my 280Z and I'm hooked on this stuff. Ton's of good reviews out there. It's essentially 99% composed of what Shell uses in F1 cars. Helps clean carbon deposits (up to 60% one first tank alone), clean injectors, prevent corrosion and wear. Just filled up second tank and hope to do a few more. Also, noticed some significant fuel savings. 4-5 mpg improvement.

New brake booster and master cylinder = no more mushy brakes! New engine mounts and tranny mounts = no more car shaking like an earthquake at idle or shifter vibrating during acceleration New rear main seal = no more leaks Oil changed and radiator flushed and new coolant = happy cool engine for the Texas summer New timing crank, alternator belt and distributor set = better ignition and happier engine Vacuum lines replaced = better idle and acceleration Lots of progress this week! [2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
Replaced the bungee cord battery tie down the previous owner was using with the MSA full kit (price was reduced recently) - snug as a bug in a rug Also replaced the 180 degree thermostat with 160 degrees Next up: Bleed brakes and try to find leak - hopefully don't need a new booster and MC Alignment and replace rack and pinion boots (parts on hand) fluid flush - oil, transmission, coolant Replace engine and transmission mounts (parts on hand) Replace oil drain plug and main seal gasket (parts on hand) And if I'm lucky, find out if my AC compressor works (currently not installed) Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Finally was able to install a new shift knob. When I bought it the kid had this cheap plastic thing from autozone.. affected shifts, slowed you down, wasn't weighted. Ordered one from MSA and it was no longer in production... then ordered this billet aluminum one and it wasn't in stock. Patiently waited and glad I did! What a world of difference a good shift knob makes with finding gears. Couple that with the new bushings and adjustments I made to the lever, and my transmission is feeling up to par now Meeting an old roommate and some old friends for dinner at the Woodshed in FW. Cheers, y'all Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

[2017] What Did You Do To/with Your Z Today?
These cars and their engineering continue to amaze me. Keep in mind my L28 is bone stock less an aluminum radiator+electric fans, K&N cone filter, headers and exhaust. Yesterday I really put her through the paces for a good 2 hours.. add on top of that 2 more hours of driving to and from.. the last 40 minutes coming home she was really tired.. starting to hesitate, stumble. I thought the timing might be off Today I fired her up to take her to the driving range and see how she felt today and drove like a champ. Just needed a night's rest Had a big grin the whole time Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

I checked the routing of my thermotime and water temp sensor connectors to make sure they were connected in the proper location (z is running rich)... ended up switching them around (I think) Fire it up and it runs real rough. Quickly shut off, switch connectors back, fires up and runs fine Still rich Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile

Anyone with an opinion welcome. Car stuttering at high rpms.
what is the condition of your rubber boots? 1) air filter to air flow meter 2) air flow meter to throttle body? I went from one wrapped in duct tape to the new part below and it solved similar issues. The EFI bible also lists this as one of the first things to check on "stumbling under acceleration"

280Z 5th gear synchro's gone bad?
yes we did everything at one time. the damage to the shift rod was so great we figured we should go ahead and grind it down. We grinded a little bit past the existing depth and smoothed out the transitions and everything worked. and looking at Lumens pic, I have the shifter from the middle set. I still have no idea if my transmission is ZX or not. I bought the car 3 months ago and know it has an N42 block with N47 head (he said it wasn't the orginal engine and that it had roughly 88k miles), so i suppose the engine/tranny combo could have came out of a 79-80 ZX.

280Z 5th gear synchro's gone bad?
UPDATE: - grinding the shift rod worked! 5th gear engages and works like a champ - replaced the bushings and shift pin with the kit from MSA (clear rubber bushings) - shifter feels so much better and no more vibrations at high RPM's - cruized home at 85 mph in 5th gear and felt so good Enjoyed a ribeye with my buddy after we got done (and a few beers of course) Cheers, y'all! Thanks again for your help. This site is a wealth of knowledge Sent from my iPhone using Classic Zcar Club mobile
