Hey Mike, Poop happens, I'm just glad were back.:classic:
  2. Hey Bill, There were close to two hundred cars.
  3. Here's the Porsche.
  4. Hi folks. I just spent all day at the Artesia, NM 9th annual car show. I wanted to share. I took my Z so that "America" can have a taste. Not including the "ricers" there were a total of 5 imports. An Alfa Romeo, 2 VW's a Porsche and yours truly. The level of competition was very high. I'd guess that 90% of the older (pre 1980) cars were restored. There were some beautiful cars. Trully awesome. I was in good company. And by the way I took second place in the 1970-1980 import. The white Porsche Cabriolet (sp?), which looked like it just rolled off the assembly line took first (I voted for him). It was a gem.

Not sure if you already know and not exactly on topic but pretty close. The torsion bars for the hood hinges were painted black.

Welcome to the club. Where in NY? I'll be back in Niagara Falls in July. Rochester has a club. And in August there is a Z show in Syracuse.
  7. I agree with you Carl, the suspension components have mild surface rust and looks to be original if anything. Very curious to see what she will go for. Alex if you have a chance get some pictures of the inside and engine.
  8. You can also try "Autozone" they will loan you tools, no charge.
  9. You will get different opinions on this one. Your original flat top carbs are not junk if they are working properly. It takes more effort and a little more money to get them working correctly. If they are all gunked up and in need of a rebuild then I would suggest going with the earlier round top carbs. They are a little easier to work on and don't require all the emmision attachments. If you could get a pair of carbs from a junkyard it will save you a few bucks core charge from Ztherapy. The carbs from Ztherapy are ready to go, bolt them on, new mechanical fuel pump and your ready for some fine tuning. The four barrel carb is another option. Performance wise they are worse then the flat top's. Not to mention your taking away from originality. To get the most bang for your buck go with the round tops.

Thanks Enrique, I'll try this tomorrow.

Just an update. I went to wally world and picked up a new 80GB internal hard drive for $70 bucks. OwenK talked me through installing it and it went pretty smooth. A lot easier then I thought. The new drive is up and running and I'm back in buisness. Thanks Owen. Now I have to try and recover data off the old drive.

Steve, I have the XP cd in the cd drive when It starts up. Then when I get to the system restore screen with the C:\ promt I will put in a command and it won't execute. I've tried to bring up a dir and it tells me that "An error occurred during directory enumeration". It won't let me change directory either. To all you other guys, thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. I believe I will go over to Wally world and pick up a new internal hard drive. If I can recover some of my files that would be great. And you guys make it sound like it's really easy so, I'm going to give it a shot. Owenk, I got your PM. Thanks guys.

I talked to a local computer guru and he also confirmed that my hard drive bit the dust. He said if I can't pull up the DIR from the C:\ then the hard drive is probably bad. Now I have two options. I can take my computer to a shop here in town and they can fiddle with it for a couple of weeks. Or... I can go over to Wally World buy a new internal hard drive for 90 bucks and try to do it myself. Hmmm?? How hard can it be?

I spent 6K on mine. She was taken to the painters naked and still on the rotisserie. They striped her down to bare metal, did minor body work, painted, color sanded and buffed. Total of 140 hours labor.

I hear ya. Pulling the hard drive and borrowing another or loading onto another computer sounds easy enough and I'm sure it is for you guys that have done this. But, I'd rather adjust my valves blindfolded then take my CPU apart. Don't get me wrong guys, I really appreciate your help and I was hoping for an easy fix. But it's not looking that way.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Steve, I went to your link and the symptoms were spot on. Only bad thing is the fix didn't work. ChrisA, It won't go to safemode. Also it's a desktop. Once I get to the Recover console. C:\ It won't change directory to windows, or system or anything, it responds: The path or file specified is not valid. When I type DIR it responds: An error occured during directory enumaration. I typed CHKDSK It got to 26% completed, then it responded: The volume appears to contain one or more unrecoverable problems. I borrowed a windows XP disk from a friend. To reinstall the entire OS it told me that it had to format a partition. Will I loose any files or data if I do this? Thanks again guys.

My computer at home crashed! Can someone give me some guidance? When I start it up it gives me an error message saying that Windows did not start up properly. It gives me different options: Start up in Safe Mode, Start up using the last known configuration that worked, and start up normally. None of these options work, I did get a message saying that a file was missing or damaged: "<windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe" So I got my Windows XP disk and tried to reboot via disk. It then gave me two options, one I had to push "R" (sorry I can't remember what for) which eventually led me to a C:\ prompt. The second option was to reinstall Windows XP. It told me it had to format a partition to be able to reinstall. What do I do? If I format will I loose all the data on my hard drive? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ed

Here is a picture I took a while back. It might help shed some light on the subject. Also you will notice a little cardboard "L" I use this to adjust my floats.

Thanks for the advice so far. At first I was contemplating an 18' trailer. But that would be kind of small. The Z measures 14' nose to tail and that would give me only 4' of space. So I made 20' my minimum. The larger ones would be nicer but I was getting concerned with the weight of the trailer. The 20' weighs about 3k and that's enough for me, with the car and junk were talking about 6-7k. I also had to consider where to store the trailer when it's not in use. My flatbed trailer is a 20' and it fit's next to my house perfectly. My tow vehicle is a Chevy truck 1500 with a 5.7L. But my concern is what can I do to prevent getting scammed. Like I'm sending this guy $200 bucks to hold the trailer until I can pick it up. What if the day comes to pick it up and this guy dissappears off the face of the earth? With my $200. I know it's not much but it's still $200. I think I'm being paranoid but, I don't want to do anything that could have been preventable. Thanks Guys.

I've been searching for an enclosed trailer. I do have a flatbed trailer that I've been using to take my Z across the country. But I thought it's about time I upgrade to an enclosed one. I found a 20' x 8' enclosed haulmark trailer. Really nice. It was advertised on "Racingjunk.com" Price is right too. Only thing is I really don't know the seller. I've talked to him over the phone and have been emailing him. He has also sent me his home address. My question is what kind of things can I do to prevent getting scammed? I'm not saying that I think I am just that I want to be cautious and cover my a$$. I want to send him some money so that he will hold the trailer for me and I will pay the balance when I pick it up in 10 days. Thanks for any input.

Here is my guess: Either your filter got plugged again and or, on the float chamber there is a needle valve and a screen filter maybe these got plugged. Take an empty two liter bottle and put one of the hoses that comes from your fuel rail to the float bowl into the bottle. Crank the engine over and check for fuel flow. If you find a plug use compressed air and some carburator cleaner to clear it. You might also consider having the tank flushed.
  22. Wow Victor, Sounds like a blast, I wish I could join you. Have fun!
