How much is a fair price for a rebuilt 280 engine?
Not sure if this is the answer your looking for but, about 7 years ago I bought a used engine. N42 head and block. With new bearings. And new seals. It didn't really have half as much work done to it as you mentioned doing. And I payed about $700 bucks.

Valve part # & $
Oh yea, I will definately send the head out. I just wanted to get some prices on the valves so when I get some new ones I won't get raked over the coals. The more info I have when I drop the head off will make it seem like I know what I'm talking about. And hopefully get a decent deal.

Valve part # & $
I left my MSA catalog in NY and I need someone to do me a favor. I need the part number and price for some engine valves. N-42 head which came in 75-76. I need the individual price and part number for an exhaust valve and an intake valve. Thanks.

From good to bad in .1 seconds
Well, I can definately say that I'm getting faster when it comes to working on the engine. I remember the first time I took the carbs & intake manifold off it took me about 4 hours. Now I get it done in about 45 minutes. I'll finish taking her apart this week to get an idea of the total damage.

From good to bad in .1 seconds
So it starts off as a nice sunny day. I decide to take the Z for a spin. Let it warm up and off I go. I get around a mile from home and WHAM! The engine shuts off. I have that feeling like something just broke. Turn her over and there is no compression.:dead: I get her home and start looking, pull the valve cover and the camshaft sprocket had come loose :stupid: I can only blame myself. I remove the rockers to see if there is any valve damage. Well so far five of the intake valves are bent. I haven't even gotten to the exhaust. Aaargggg!!! I am not happy.

Battery tray ugly
If you don't do anything this year atleast treat the area, neutralize any acid on the metal and give it a good cleaning.

Vibration at 60 MPH and above
Yes, vibration this bad you might be able to wiggle the shaft and find the culprit.

Part # for a grommet?
To confirm if it will work, measure the size of the hole in your firewall. 73 & early 74 have a 2 1/2" hole. Earlier Z's are smaller.

On the road again.
Made it no problems. I even got a few compliments on the way. And an offer to buy her. My poor baby did get wet when we hit some rain in St. Louis. But now it's nothing but sunshine. :classic:

Part # for a grommet?
Yes, I still have a few left. No, the opening on a 71 is smaller. No, this grommet won't work anywhere else. Bonzai has the hatch floor grommets your looking for. (zzxdatsun.com)

Anybody building headlight relay harness?
I think Victoria British has some. Not sure of the quality or anything.

which needle?
Someone might be able to give you a "ballpark" suggestion. But to accurately tune the carbs and install proper needles you will need to analize the exhaust gas. The entire engine needs to be in tune also.

Suspension Paint and Prep Questions
As you can tell by the previous suggestions, do it once and do it right. If your going through the trouble of removing the suspension components, stripping and cleaning. Then painting. Why paint with something that is only going to last 5 years? But if that's what you want then strip away. Clean and then paint your parts with a rattle can paint. Or you can do it right the first time and strip, paint with a rust preventative paint. (powder coat or something else). And have it last for 30 years. But if you have your mind set on doing your complete restoration 5 years from now, why waste your time now. Take a spray bottle with some used motor oil and spray all of your suspension components. The light coat of oil will spread and will protect your metal.

Which cars had the radiator support painted black?
Your correct Chris about the picture. I used this as reference. Hope he doesn't mind. Reason I started this thread is because my car didn't come with the black paint. (110 Red).

What club features do you like or want?
How about a registry in database form where we can input our vin, build date, engine # and current owner. Similar to the one on Zcar.

After 4 years, Its finally done!
Awesome work Mark!!! What a beauty. Stunning. Not a detail missed. Will you be taking her to the MSA show? I'd be proud to park my car next to yours! I'll see you there. Don't be like me. I finished my car in August and she has only 30 miles on her. I'm afraid to take her out .
