Thanks for the info guys. Jernut it's hard to read the dyno print out but at what rpm did your HP peak?

Not sure if you 280 is designed the same as the 240. But under the cowl (the piece between the hood an the windshield) there is a fresh air intake. It is right about the area you are describing the water is coming from. It has a "snorkel" type build. It's about a 6" square 6" tall. There is a "hood" that covers it to prevent water from entering. Along the base it is sealed with caulking. This caulking is probably where your water is entering the car. Water will drip down your heater fan area.

Nice video, sounds bad arse! Especially when you first fired her up. Are you sure it's 134 hp? Didn't the 240 have 150 stock?

You can get a set of .015 shims from Goodson http://www.goodson.com/store/template/product_detail.php?IID=3499 I have a set I'll sell you for $10 bucks brand new never used. But I don't think this is positively your problem. You have listed problems that are still very confusing. Your engine needs to be properly diagnosed. Rule out all other problems and or causes before you start shimming the tower. Maybe you have the wrong valve springs? I don't know. Where in Ontario are you? There is a very strong Ontario Z club that could probably help you out.

How come the taillights are still on the car?
  11. I'm sure you already thought of it but take the hub caps off and store them in a safe place with the rest of the parts you remove. Are you getting a single stage paint job or a base/clear?

Very interesting. Alan I'm afraid to ask but how many Datsuns do you have in your paddock? I wonder if Nissan Sport would do a translation on those articles, hint, hint, cough, cough. If I ever go to London I would love to visit.

Like others mentioned it might just be your distributor shaft is off by one tooth. This happened to me once and I had to turn the distributor all the way to get it to run. Quick way to check is to set your engine at #1 TDC (align the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley with the "0" on the pointer). Pull the distributor off it's base (two little bolts) and check the alignment of the tooth. If you have a service manual there is a picture.

On one hand it could be just fine. Stay sealed for years. Then on the other hand it could stay sealed for a couple of weeks. Then when your out in the middle of nowhere she will start to leak. You won't notice it until it's too late the engine will overheat and you warp your head. If you have the time and some of it already taken appart I'd fix it now. While the rest of the bolts will still come out easy. $.02

Looks like you have quite a bit of patch work in the passenger side fender well. Did you do it? Anything that has that amount of repair needs to be done properly.
  17. No, nothing in the rear.

Be careful about screwing anything in the e-brake area. Your fuel and brake lines are back there.

That is a correct headgasket. Some of the passages are blocked by the gasket to prevent your block from rusting. The passages on the head are there from the casting process.

Rick, nice story. Makes one realize how much we love our comforts. I had to sleep in my Zed once. I was on my way home from New Mexico to San Diego (back when I used to live there ) I left NM at about 4 pm and had a 12 hour drive ahead of me. By midnight I was beat. Falling asleep at the wheel and all. I figured I better find a place to pull over and take a nap. Found a little town called Gila Bend. I think it's in Arizona. Well it was summer time and at 12:30am it was still 95 degrees F, 35 C. I didn't want to get a hotel room because I just wanted to take a nap and get back on the road so I could get home. Pulled the Z into an empty lot. Reclined the seat as far as it would go. Nice and comfy, pushed the seat up a bit too so my feet were under the pedals. Turn the car off and the sweating started. With no A/C I was screwed. Roll down the windows. Still hot. Now it's 2am and it's still hot outside. Man! WTF! I opened my door stuck one leg out, had the windows rolled down, wearing nothing more than a t-shirt and a pair of shorts, sweating my a$$ off. Next thing I know it's 6am. I was happy to get back on the road and turn on my A/C.
  22. If your replacing the windshield or hatch window seals you must cut out the stainless trim. DO NOT pull it out. It WILL bend and not go back into place. Take a boxcutter with a sharp blade. Carefully cut around the edge of the stainless trim on both sides. Then gently remove the trim without bending. When reinstalling they go in last. After the window and seal are back in the car. I agree with Carl on the brake cable. IMO those pesky clips above the diff are the worst. I had to use a straight claw hammer to get to them. And yes you should remove the driveshaft.

My power windows were a one off custom job. I used an old door, cut the skin off so that I could work on the regulator. 81ZX motors and a little cutting / welding / fabricating. Sorry.
  24. Just looked at your door picture. It looks like the top window frame part alligns with the jamb properly. But the rest of the door won't. Try loostening the bolts that hold the window frame. Remove the panel, there is one bolt at the upper outer corner and three in the jamb area two on top and one on the bottom. Loosten them and try to move the frame out away from the car. Also while it is loose close your door slowly, the door latch has a mechanism that clicks twice. The first is to catch the door and the second is to secure it. Listen to the passenger side. How many clicks does the drivers door give?

You should do what you want. But if it were me.... You have a VERY custom car, VERY custom. I'd make the panels look like GTO panels or better. BTW we would love to see some more pictures of your car in your gallery!
