Heat shield question
Kmack, I've got the same set-up in my 73. And I don't have any problems running in 100+ weather with the A/C running. Correct me if I am wrong guys but slight studder or hesitation under acceleration might be an Ignition or timing problem. I have heard that using a header blanket "traps" the heat around the header making it extreamly hot and causing the header to warp. Might be just a rumor.

Removing Locking lug nuts
It sounds like the 12 point socket will work the best. As soon as you get the nut loose wiggle the socket to get it off and hopefully you can reuse it for the next wheel.

Heat shield question
What year carbs are you using? And are you running water through your intake manifold? I also have a 73 but I'm using 71 carbs with the 71 heat shield over my 6-1 headers. I haven't had any problems running in 100+ weather. What kind of problems are you experiencing?

sad day for 280
Sorry Man, at least you can save some good parts to someday save another Z.

just curious..
When I removed the rear pannel on the passenger side I could see clear down to the ground below all around the gas filler hose. The seal on mine had been weathered away. I sealed it with silicone and good-by exhaust fumes!

L24 block vaccuum/breather
I Believe you are refering to the tube that connects to the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventalation) valve. It connects from the tube that sticks out from the block and connects to the PCV valve which is connected to the carburator balance tube. It's there to prevent air pressure build-up in the crankcase.

carbon fiber Dashes now available!!!
Great looking an a good price. Hope you can stay on the market for a while because I don't have the money right now. But if you stick around for about 1 year I'll be giving you a call. One question; will the factory guages work and how much work is involved in the installation process (labor hours start to finish).

Ouch!!!
Driving home the other night in my Z. Dark, city streets. Unfamiliar roads. Making a long sweeping left hand turn. All of the sudden BANG! A sidewalk in the middle of the road. One of those medium barrier things. Hit the left front HARD! I felt bad. The impact was so hard it knocked the horn pad off the steering wheel. I felt like my baby got violated. When I got home I did a quick look around and the only dammage I could find was a big blister looking bump on my tire. It goes from the edge of the rim to the tire tread and is about 3 inches wide. Rim looks o.k. The only other dammage I could find the next day was some chipped paint from the top rear side of the door (by the window molding) where it hit the rear quarter pannel. Be careful out there guys. The world is out to get us.

You gotta admit each of us would love that beautiful car. Take care of her and treat her right. She's getting alot of bids! I'm gonna guess 15K! Even though the engine looks like it's been over the 100k point.

So how much have you guys invested in your Zeds?
I've never really thought about it but here goes, Car 73Z ...................... 2500 Used mag wheels......... 120 work on wheels ........... 300 Tires............................. 375 New brakes................... 250 Eurathane bushings.......100 Tokico shocks.................180 Fixed radiator.................100 Rebuilt L28...................1500 5 speed.........................300 Rear end........................100 New Battery...................120 A/C system fixed.............600 71 Carbs (Ztherapy)........500 Headers.........................350 Custom Exhaust.............125 Tinted windows..............200 Stereo............................400 Front bumper.................200 Moldings, rivets etc........200 Spoiler............................120 Total ....................... $8640.00 US dollars Boy, I was just rounding stuff off. I guess it really adds up! I'm sure I've forgotten a few things but you get the idea. When I bought the car the interior was like new so I haven't spent much there. I still need a windshield, recrome the rear bumper and a 4-5,000 paint job. Don't tell my wife:tapemouth

I want to touch up some chips in my paint but I can't find the right color. 110. Can I order this from the dealer or should I just go to a body shop and buy a quart?

Need help on chooseing new engine parts
The L28 block from an 81 is a good base to start with. The E88 does have the best compression 10.8:1 if I remember correctly. With this combo you might have problems with pre-detonation (pinging) if you use pump gas less than 94 octane. The E-88,N42, & N47 will give you 10.4:1 (if the head has not been shaved). Like you said the E-88 does not flow the best because of the small valves. And I do think that most of the power comes from a properly designed head. If you use a head with larger valves you would have a good "base" to work with ie.. porting & polishing. All the heads pretty much flow the same.
