    Check out:www.miamirice.net :stupid:
  2. It all depends on the condition of the internals. How many miles on current bearings, rings etc... By the looks of the overspray it was a quick paint job. I'd start around $100.00 depending on the condition. (You can pick one up at a junk yard for about 300 with a head).

Which Ignition System is in your ride and what would you suggest for others to use? For stock? For Modified?

Did it just not go into gear or is it going into gear but you get nothing?

When you put it that way it does make more sense.

Thanks for the good info. I don't think I can afford new pistons right now. And I guess I can't really get the engine balanced because the Flywheel that I plan on using is on my car still (long story). I am replacing the rings, bearings, seals, gaskets etc...(boy it really adds up). Would you guys happen to know the proper ring gap for this engine? I was planning on getting a digital scale and balancing the piston/rod assembly myself. Theoretically it does seem possible. I mean the small end, pin and piston all rotate as an assembly. Why not weigh them as such.

How about the drivers side door? What shape is it in and are you interested in selling it?

The machinist I took it to has over 20 years experiance on american engines. He said that the boss on the side of the piston is too small to properly support the piston and you might take a chance at cracking piston.

I ended up going to Autozone and borrowing a tool for the job.

I'm rebuilding a F54. I took it to the local machine shop to get it hot tanked and all cleaned up (looks good). Anyway I asked about getting the crank, rods, and pistons balanced. He told me that he couldn't do it because he couldn't separate the piston from the rod without risking damage to the piston (because the wrist pins are pressed into the small end of the rod). Has anyone balanced the piston and rod assembled?

I saw one in "Commando" with Arnold. It's the scene where that yellow Porche drives into the Galleria mall parking lot. When he gets it parked there is a red 240 that drives by.

How do you remove the pilot bushing that is at the back end of the crank? (The crank is out of the engine)

I think there is a 280 in a movie called something summer or summer something. It's about a highschool kid that makes a hot rod corvette in shop class I think it was gold. And it gets stolen. So he goes on and adventure to find his car in Las Vegas where someone saw it. But it ends up being a hot rod 280z. Still can't remember the name of the movie.

What is the original block color of the 240?

Well, I just went for a drive and I guess I exagerated with the 1-2 seconds. It takes about 1/2 a second to switch gears, but there is definately a slight hesitation between gears. If I remember correctly my four speed did the same thing. Hopefully it's just normal. Thanks.

Sorry to change the subject but do all transmissions shift slow, I mean when you change gears there is a "delay" around the "neutral" area. Making shifting hard. You can't "slam it" from first to second, it takes about 1-2 seconds before it will engage.
  22. Hi, I Just installed an Electronic Distributor from an 81 on to my 73. When I crank it over the engine won't start. Then when I let the key go from "start" to "on" it fires right up. I used my volt meter and found the wire that supplies 12v to the resistor when the ignition is in the on position and used it for the 12v supply to the module on the distributor. I followed the diagram in: Any help?

I put an EI distributor from an 81 on my 73 the other day. I used the directions found in zgarage2001. Everything went fine. I tried to fire her up, turned the key, nothing, it turned over but no fire, then when I let the key go it fired right up. Kind of like it wasn't getting any juice with the key cranked all the way in the start position. What am I doing wrong?

If you watch old re-runs of "CHiPs" you sometimes see the Z.

I've done around 135 with an L28 & 5 speed. If I remember right she was running about 5000 rpm. Got scared and ran out of road.
