  1. Hey there and welcome to the club. Just one quick question. Did you drain all the old gas and put in fresh new gas? Also you mentioned choke so I'm assuming you have the early 260Z with carbs. Which carbs do you have? The flat tops or the round tops? O.K. so that was 3 questions.
  2. That looks really good. I have the floor matts that just have the "Z" emblem. I say leave them. Now you need the rubber pad for your foot rest and you will be done.

Best way is to have them welded.

The red doors belong to an earlier 240Z and the blue doors to the later 280Z.

I've had my tensioner pop out once too. The sprocket was ever so close. I tried prying it on but there just wasn't enough slack. Not saying that it wouldn't have gone on had I used enough force but how much is too much? Had I gotten it on there with the tensioner out would have caused even more problems. If the wedge was inserted while the sprocket was on the cam then it should have held the bottom of the chain in place. Thus allowing the cam sprocket to go back on by hand. Nobody is wrong here just don't use too much force to get that sprocket back on. What kind of wedge was used?

How long has the engine sat? There is only one 27 mm bolt on the front of the engine so you have got to have the correct one. Did you make sure that the car was out of gear? Everything looks ok in your pictures. Try putting it in second gear and rocking the car back and forth.

It sounds like the tensioner popped out, somehow your wedge didn't work properly. The tensioner is basically spring loaded and once it comes out the only way to put it back is to remove the timing cover. You will have to remove the distributor, oil pump, cooling fan and the water pump. Be carful not to break any water pump bolts. There are also some small bolts that hold the oil pan to the timing cover. Remove the ones on the cover and loosen the rest. You don't need to pull the engine. I've done this myself and it only takes about an hour to remove the cover if all goes well. When re-assembling make sure you have the oil pump shaft timing set correctly or it will throw off your distributor timing. Do a little searching and you will find pictures of the tensioner and several articles on setting the timing.

Is it possible to have a second battery on the car and be able to charge it with the same alternator? I'm interested in using the second battery to run aftermarket accessories like a DVD player, Flat screen TV, surround sound and amplifiers. I'd like to not have the car running while these accessories are running and I don't want to use the car battery to prevent having a drained battery. Just two batteries, one for the car and one for the accessories, charged with one alternator.
  13. Has it always been like this? Have the door seals been recently been replaced?

A theft deterent device needs to be convienient for you and difficult for the would be thief. Pulling your battery, removing the steering wheel, large locks, etc... while useful they are inconvienient. Your driving along and you stop at a store to get a cold drink or a pack of smokes. Are you going to put on your "Club" or use your battery cut-off switch? Probably not. Even if you have an ignition cut-off switch you probably won't activate it for just a 2 minute stop. Most would be thiefs are opportunistic if it takes more than a few minutes then they will most likely give up. On the other hand if someone wants YOUR car then no matter what you do it's gone. Like previously mentioned it takes about 10 seconds to steal a car. Lo-Jack is great if you notice your car has been stolen within 30 minutes or less. If you park your car overnight and the thief has had a few hours with your car then then there probably won't be much left. Lo-jack is not supported in all cities. Up here in western NY we don't have it.

When you have the die/mold made make sure you coordinate it with the rubber company that will produce the product. Some places can only work with molds of a certain size and design. Also look into producing a mold where you can get both left and right gaskets done in one process.
