Head Swapping
I'm in the planning stages of rebuilding my L-28. I already have 71 round tops with a K&N. 6-1 headers with a 2 1/2 exhaust. I want to do some head work and I'm planning on putting in a mild cam and having some port work done. I currently have a N42 head that needs work. I was considering a E-31 head for the higher compression but heard it has smaller valves than the N-42. Any suggestions?

Dan, My Z does the same thing. I'm putting in a new VR on Tuesday. If this solves the problem I'll let you know.

L28 in 72 240z...
I did the conversion myself a couple of years ago. Big differance! Make sure your mechanical fuel pump has a hole to go through on the head. I noticed some of the later heads don't have the hole in the head for a mechanical pump.

Amp Gauge is Bouncing
Hey Dan, Thanks for the offer but I ordered a new VR from Motorsports. I hope to get it Monday. I have done business with Lee at All Z before. What a great place! I got my rims from Lee. So my battery is no good anymore? How come?

new exhaust - banging?
Hey Man, If you love it the way it is, then leave it alone! If a cop pull you over tell him "Sorry officer but the car is very old and I just got this hole in my exhaust. I'm in the process of getting it fixed." Enjoy!

Amp Gauge is Bouncing
Whoa! So if I were to tell you that my battery does leak then I guess it would all be related?

new exhaust - banging?
I see a resinator in your future. I have the 6 into 1 with a 2 1/2 pipe. I didn't want that "turbo rice burner" sound. The resinator cleaned it up. It sounds like a V-8 with headers & exhaust. You'll love it!

Amp Gauge is Bouncing
My amp gauge used to stay a little to the positive side when all the lights were on. And it would be right in the middle when the lights were off. Recently the gauge has started to bounce back and forth really fast, almost looks like it's vibrating. The lights are also fluctuating, they go bright then dim, bright then dim. Today with the lights off the gauge was all the way to the right, almost touching the +60 side. It stayed there for about 5 minutes then went back to the middle and started bouncing again. Is it my voltage regulator? As far as I can tell it's as old as the car.

Blatant (*) kissing
Well you are all right. Support would be nice. Shwagg would be bought. But my favorite source of satisfaction is when I see another old Z running down the road.

Paint Color
O.K. Guys, I hope we can conclude that the paint sticker can go on both sides because my 10/73 Z has it on the passenger side too. Is it my imagination or does Socalz Z and Xyz Z look about the same color? I'm not sure maybe Xyz is a little darker?

Sound
I managed to mount a pair of 4" speakers under the dash by the heater core/center console. I used some plumbers tape to make brackets. Didn't have to drill or cut anything. You just have to use a little bit of imagination. In the rear the previous owner had cut some 6x9 speaker holes in the rear panel. Looks almost like the speaker panel from Motorsport. I replaced the old ones with some new ones. It was sounding pretty good until a friend gave me a speaker box and amp that fit perfect behind the seat and in front of the shock towers. The speaker box had 2 10" speakers, tweeters and some horn looking things. Now It sounds great. Sorry no pix.

Gas tank
I have a quick question. How many gallons (U.S.) will my 73 240 hold? And what kind of gas mileage is common? I'm getting about 20 mpg.

My 70 240Z
Hey, Nice Z. I noticed that your exhaust sticks out a little beyond your bumper. Did you do this on purpose, and if so why?

Head light
Thanks for steering me in the right direction. I obviously started at the wrong end of the problem. It was a burnt fuse. Both lights work now. Thanks

Head light
Hey there, My driver's side head light is not as bright as the passenger side. I replaced both lights about 5 months ago. And this problem occured last week. I checked the headlights themselves by swapping left to right, right to left and the passenger side works perfect. I have cleaned the contacts on the connector plugs (the one to the bulb and the one by the horn). The light stays the same, no matter if high beam or low beam it stays wizz yellow. Besides trying to backtrack the wiring and making sure all contacts are clean, not to mention trying to find where the wire's go. Is there anything anybody can suggest? Thanks, ED

'73 240Z that I probably will have to sell
Hey Billy, Sorry to hear your delema. Too bad you can't park it somewhere safe for a while until you can enjoy it. Anyway if you want a decent estimate you have to be more specific on the condition and what work has been done.

Z runs like poop
It sounds like your carbs are out of adjustment. I too purchased some carbs from Z therapy. And I tried to adjust my carbs according to the Hayes manual. Needless to say I had the same problems you are describing. The problem was that the needle jets were of a different profile than stock making the stock adjustment impossible. I took my car to a shop where they measured the exhaust mixture and adjusted the carbs. It came to about 4 1/2 turns from bottom. Good luck.

Lights
My 73 is basically stock, except for under the hood. Question; At night when I turn on my lights they all look dim. When I increase the idle speed or start driving they all brighten up. Then when I stop at a stop sign or light they all go dim again?? Can anyone help?
