  1. Don’t know how we got into politics, then murder hornets, but back to poor delivery service. I ordered 4 wheels for my 72 Z a few months ago, and they have been on back order. They finally have become available, and were shipped last week with a delivery date of last Saturday. Sure enough, the arrived at Burlington, WA Saturday afternoon, too late to get on the delivery wagon. No problem, they will be delivered Monday. Nope. The trailer has been sitting unloaded ever since, getting scanned twice a day. I called FedEx yesterday and they say there is a huge backlog of freight there, and it will get unloaded “soon”. I don’t get why all of a sudden there is a problem. Two weeks prior the same merchant sent an order that traveled 1,800 miles out of the way (it is 800 miles from the merchant to my house). It arrived a week late, but didn’t sit in a trailer for a week first.
  2. As mentioned, there are myriad brands of penetrating concoctions. I’ve had good results from PB Blaster, Kroil, Gibbs, and Mopar heat stove lube (for freeing up rusty heat stoves on carburetor choke assemblies). Heat will go a long ways towards freeing up rusty fasteners. I have also found that a sharp rap in just the right spot with a drift and hammer will break the bond at the threads. Good luck and I hope you win.
  3. I like to pull the engine and transmission as a unit, swap the transmission to the fresh engine and then reinstall as a unit. Also, I find it easier to remove the intake and exhaust with the engine in the car, and reinstall after the engine is back in. Fewer things to get in the way or hang up along the way.
  4. I saw that and the first thing I thought was someone is faking a numbers matching car.
  5. At The Big Shed they buy that stuff by the truckload.
  6. Right here: https://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/10-2261 Thirty four bucks each. *edit* I see these are listed as unavailable.
  7. Started getting the 72 ready for the engine swap. Removed the exhaust, drained fluids, disconnected stuff underneath. Next weekend I hope to get it in position to pull the engine out.
  8. Wouldn't being confined to a ship increase risk of mass infection (of those not inoculated)?
  9. I see it on this level, and I'm cured. Some of the steel they used to make The Big Shed is from Canada, eh?
  10. I have grown weary of the overly passionate partisan bickering, and the bad behavior and mob mentality of the masses. I don't engage in discussion of political matters with anyone anymore, save for an occasional conversation with Mrs. Racer 2.0, and do my best to ignore it all. My distaste for the whole mess had me close to not casting a ballot last year for the first time since I started voting at 18, 47 years ago. I just go into the shop, turn on some music or car oriented programming on the TV, and work on my cars and equipment, or go spend time down by the river, watching it go by.
  11. Because the image isn’t hosted at a secure site. Note the URL is only “http”, not “https”. So I stole it and uploaded it from my phone.
  12. And military intelligence.
  13. The company has a website set up on their intranet for employees to self certify, and yes, it is on an honor system. No one is asking for proof, or asking to see the vaccination card given when you get the shot.
  14. I’m seeing some stores where some employees are still wearing masks, but others are not. At The Big Shed we were told if we are fully vaccinated we could lose the masks, but if not vaccinated then a mask is still the order of the day.
  15. I see that the Olympics will take place in Japan, without spectators, as there is an outbreak of Covid cases.
  16. Torque to yield bolts require that how much the fastener stretches is known. Once the bolt reaches the maximum allowable stretch, it must be discarded and replaced. So yes, you are measuring how much the bolt stretches.
  17. Doesn’t the pilot bushing go in the crankshaft hub?
  18. I’ve made dozens of tools over the years. It would be safe to say they are all equally valuable, as all were created when there wasn’t a tool available to do the job. I’ve made tools to remove spring eye bushings for leaf springs and install new ones for heavy trucks. This was so I didn’t have to remove the spring to take it to a press. I made a tool for checking and adjusting air brake slack adjusters. I built a gage for checking the toe on my race car, but it can be used to check toe on any vehicle. Along that line I made a number of tools to aid in setting and adjusting all of the suspension on the race car, camber, caster, square. Dozens of jigs and fixtures, for drilling or assembly. Stands for spare engines and transmissions. My tool box is loaded with modified wrenches and sockets. I have bought a number of wrenches just to be modified for a single job. I built a cart for a suitcase MIG welder that also carries the argon bottle, and storage for a welding hood, gloves and leather coat, clamps, spare wire, consumables and nozzle dip. I made a tool for holding L series cylinder heads for porting work, so I don’t have to chase it around the workbench. Another tool for holding a Z strut and spindle for mocking up brake caliper adapters and cooling ducts, and checking wheel to brake component clearances. It also is useful for mounting a wheel for polishing. The list goes on . . . .
  19. This is the most entertaining video yet, a lot of fun. As for the muffler, it has a classic L series six cylinder sound. I like the bbbrrrrrraaapppp! as the throttle is mashed and the engine winds up. Beautiful Datsun music.
