Really? I guess the 13 S30 Z cars I own must be something else then. Here are VIN tags of three of them. But then, what do I know?

Correct that the 260Z was only produced in North America for one year, 1974. There was two versions, the early one had the small bumpers like the 240Z, the late version had the 5mph crash bumpers like the 280Z. One more detail. All 240Z, 260Z and 280Z cars sold in North America had HLS30….. as the beginning of the VIN number, not RS30. The HLS30 cars were left hand drive, the RS30 cars were right hand drive,

Certainly have some work ahead Ryan. Soon you can nickname the car Patches. You'll learn a lot, have an awesome and intimate experience with the car, your wife will become jealous of it, your offspring will wonder who that strange man is that comes around once in a while. It'll be fine. Cheers mate!- 344 replies

Me too. You only need to straighten out the shipping bends. I picked up the full setup, all brake, clutch, and fuel lines, for my 72.

Nice comparison, thanks for taking the time to create the videos, and share it with us. I used a LoBak auger muffler on a setup I made for my race Z. I ran a production based class that required the use of the stock intake and exhaust manifolds, but allowed any exhaust system so long as it exited the car behind the steering wheel hub, and met the sound regs. Since the heat from the exhaust was burning my foot where the pipe ran down the transmission tunnel, I built a headpipe that exited behind the left front tire, and hung the muffler from the rocker panel with a turndown at the outlet. The muffler is a LoBak auger muffler, made for circle track racing. I used 1.75" pipes from the manifold to just before the fender (wing) and fabricated a 2 into 1 collector with a 3" mandrel bend, connected directly to the LoBak. Had a local flamespray shop coat it with aluminium (this was before the ceramic coating thing happened) inside and out. Looks awesome, never blew over 80db at the track, and my feet don't get burned anymore. My cylinder head guy worked over the SU carbs, intake and exhaust manifolds, put it all on his flowbench with the head and exhaust, and made significant gains in airflow into, and out of the head. All to gain an advantage within the rules. A photo of the part that is outside the car.

The little disc glued to the core plug on the head was placed there by Pioneer Engine Rebuilders. Like Zed says, it has a thermal indicator, to show if the head has, or has not, been subjected to overheating. It also gives a clue about the history of the head, and possibly the engine.

Yep, that’s the spot. Like Steve said, a short spacer to keep the hardware from rubbing the trim panel is a good idea. I would suggest a piece of tubing that slips neatly over the bolt, long enough to get the hardware off of the panel. The hole in the panel needs to be slightly larger than the tubing, so the panel doesn’t get pinched in the stack up and broken.

The retractor mount area was reinforced when the cars were built. At all three points where the belts anchor to the car the structures are reinforced, and a nut is welded in place to receive the anchor bolts. By the way, the early 240Z didn’t have retractable seat belts. There were three belts, a lap belt with the receiver that attached to the side of the transmission tunnel, a lap belt that anchored where the later cars had a retractor, and a shoulder belt that anchored above the quarter window. The shoulder belt hooked into the lap belt buckle on a pin.

The dark theme is easier on my eyes.

I selected the dark theme, and you must have selected a dark color for the text, and it blends in, making your post unreadable.

Green is good. Blood red is bad. Nebraska is grey. What is grey? Dead?

The hair is sort of Auburn, but in the summer the sun bleached it out blond. The beard was verigated, reddish on the cheeks, blonde down the middle. The hair is still mostly original save for grey temples, but the beard is white. Not grey, white. One guy swears I dye it.

You're welcome Captain. How are we gonna tell who the mutants are?

I was loaned to the crew I'm working with right now I have only known with masks. We get accustomed to what we see, and our first impressions of what we see are lasting and profound. So when I started seeing these people with nude faces, it was (and is) odd. Their faces just don't look right. Having only seen their eyes, for many the nose and mouth just don't fit for most of them. There are 10 people in the crew, and 6 of them are (mostly) Southeast Asian. One looks like an Asian Woody Allen without his mask. No kidding. Could be his twin. Only Asian.

Here is how I check the diff nose mount. Stick the pry bar in, push up on the handle. If the mount is torn, you’ll see it separate. -
It was management telling us two weeks after the shot you don’t have to wear a mask on the airplane, at the shift start pep rally. Before I signed into a job I searched the company web page on Covid, followed the link to find a shot, my local small town pharmacy (I live in the sticks) had an appointment for the J&J shot. We get two hours paid, I left early and headed to the county. Got there early, nobody around but me and the pharmacist, so she stuck me, put a Hello Kitty band aid on my bicep, I chilled for 15 minutes and headed home. Other than a headache I’ve been OK. The injection site doesn’t even hurt. In two weeks I’m invincible. Yippy skippy.

I worked in a body shop way back in my teens. People would come in about once a week, having gotten a Spray King or a MAACO $150 special (this was the early 1970’s), wanting to get the extremely poor paint job redone. Most left disappointed when we told them the cost to completely strip and start over, and do a proper refinish of their car. Even then, material alone was double or more what the scuff and blow places charged for everything. One woman came in with a 1950’s T Bird. She had just picked it up ad Spray King, stopped at the store for groceries on her way home and walking back to her car notice that the paint had peeled off of most of the passenger side door and fender. She cried when we gave her the estimate. People find out I know body and paint and ask how much. I tell them they can’t afford me, These days material will cost a couple thousand bucks, add the labor and a complete paint job will run $6,000 or more, if you can find a body shop that does complete paint jobs. They make their money doing crash repair. There is no such thing as a quick paint job. Go cheap, and cuss it every time you see it. Spend the money up front to do it right, and cuss it once, then love it for many years to come.

I’ve owned one of these for over 40 years. Used it hundreds of times.
