hey guys, im looking for both of these cars for a little project im cooking up. For the 280z: it can be an auto or a manual, must have a straight frame dents/dings/ some rust ok for the 280zx: must be an 81-82 turbo (does not have to run) has to have a 5 speed (original) body/rust damage ok i dont want to travel too far for either of these cars, maybe 6 hours from portland oregon, until this summer when ill travel to most anywhere. if the same person has both these cars, that would be ideal, but definately not neccisary. Im looking to spend less than 2 grand for both these cars. I know that isnt a lot, but im not looking for mint cars, they dont even have to run. Also, they are pretty specific, but let me know what you have, we can talk. thanks my AIM name is: pdxvento jason
  5. let us know how it turns out. im curious.
  6. no no, thank you for the help! i was trying to find a car that had an LSD standard, and i found that some 300zxtt's did. i have to have an LSD, and i wanted to know if it fit and work. i have an LSD in my vento (pictured in my avtar), and i love it. so i guess my question is answered. thanks for your help!
  7. great!. thanks a lot guys. i really apprciate it
  8. wow i thought saem was like 4-5 grand. so those are two good brands...any others? thanks for the help!

im wondering what you guys think is the best engine management system for L series motors if you plan on making high horse power? ive heard AEM is good, but how good can a universal system be? if you could shed any light on this subject that would be great. thanks a ton jason
  10. so it only helps? so a 300zx LSD which is an r200 3.70 will work well on an r200 that used to be a 3.54? thats what i wanted to know! thanks
  11. Hey all, Ive been searching and searching about diff ratios, and all i can find is what each car has. my question that i couldn;t find the answer to is what happens if you put say a 3.70 differential into a transmission and engine that originally had a 3.54 diff, assuming they were both r200s? ive been told that any r200 differential will work on a tranny with an r200 originally, but what does the diff size have to do with anything? thanks for the help! jason
  12. that answers a lot of the questions i had. thank you very much! i think that will hold me over for now
  13. thats what i wanted to know! how are they different? just completely different designs that both happen to be 2.8Ls? are the 83 heads swappable with the 80-2s? and i have read about the f54 block being the best, i just was unsure that it was the same as the L28et engine. thanks for your help!
  14. haha yea, the search on this board and hybridz.org is how ive learned this much . im looking at around 350-400, in a fully built turbo motor. i want to rebuild it, maybe stroke it to a 3.1, put a t3/t4 turbo, JE pistons, etc etc. money isnt really an issue, i was just wondering if i plan on replacing the turbo and internals anyways, would there be a difference between the two engines? thanks
  15. which would you say is better? im guessing the L28et is better equipped for boost? thanks for the reply
  16. hey guys, i was wondering if someone could explain the differences between these two motors. as i understand, the L28 comes in 75-78ish 280zs, and the L28et comes in the 79-83ish 280zx turbos? they are both straight 6's, but what is different between them other than the turbo (or lack of)? i understand that the L28et has about 31 more HP than the L28? is this correct? My application is im trying to figure out what i want to do with the engine in my 280z. ive been told by people on here that putting a turbo on a L28 is a little more than worthless, and that i should just swap in a L28et...if i swapped in a L28et, i would rebuild it first...and if im going to rebuild the L28et or the L28 and put a turbo on it regardless, would they have any real distinctive characteristics? sorry for the long post. i hope this makes sense... thanks! jason
  17. thanks again for all your help! ill let you know when its goin in!
  18. thanks nick! anything else i should look for? before the engine goes in, the 280 will be stripped bare. so its just the frame snd chassis. so i dont think it will be TOO hard of a task with nothing else in the car. thanks again!
  19. i guess im just trying to decide if i want to buy a full R34 front clip or not. if i do, and i make the 280 AWD, i will need to get new rear axles, etc. If i dont make it AWD, i will need a new tranny and new front axles, but id rather have RWD! such a dilemna
  20. ok thankls for the help guys. thats kind of what i was concerned about. so either i have to buy skyline axle setups and cranks (to be brief), or i have to buy an rb25 5 speed gearbox? i think i understand. do you guys jknow of any companies/tuners that make/produce rb25det aftermarket 6 speed gearboxes? also, if i do the RB25det transmission, i will have RWD, so is it possible to still use AWD skyline front axles? thanks again guys. oh, and just so you know, this car isn't a daily driver, its my project, so even the most out there ideas are considerations
  21. hey guys, this is my first post aside from the classified posts, and i have been doing a lot of reading on this board, hrbridz.org, and other sources i can find. i want to put an rb26dett into my 280z. Ive seen it done, and know its possible. ive figured out the wiring (stand alone fuel management), and the mounting (full R34 front clip), but what i cant seem to grasp is the concept of how i can make the 4WD drivetrain of the rb26 into a RWD drivetrain? i have found information stating that the rb26 with its transmission provied almost 100% of the engines power to the rear wheels during normal driving, but under full throttle or hard cornering, it becomes 50/50 front rear distribution. how would one, or how have you dealed with this? did you have to use another transmission? i would prefer to use the 6 speed that came on the skyline, but what are my options as far as this goes? thanks a lot guys, sorry for the long post. also, please correct any errors in my logic or knowledge thanks again
