240Z LED Headlight Wiring
I've gone with LED headlights which I talked about here. All was well until last night. Just went to drive around the block just after dark and flipped the switch and nothing, just running lights and no headlights. Pulled into the garage and for grins hit the brights and boom, headlights, hit low beams and they were on. Apparently one of the jobs of the anti flicker device corrects the current flow (most of the time) to the bulb. Because LED's are diodes they will only fire when current is applied in the allowed direction. Here's what a typical 6024 bulb expects so I'm pretty sure a LED bulb is built expecting this configuration. The 240Z is wired with power on 3 with 1 & 2 being ground. This is fine for a standard filament bulb, but not for diodes. Most of the time the anti-flicker piece takes care of this. It was a really tight fit to get the anti-flicker device in the stock buckets, but it can be done. I thought that having LED's on all lights but the dash I really didn't need the harness mod because I'd reduced the amp draw plenty so not to stress the fuse block or multi-function switch. Well after the issue last night I think I'll go with Dave's relay mod anyway because it not only takes the load off the multi-function switch, but also looks like it will allow me to get rid of the anti-flicker device, if this diagram is really of Dave's headlight relay mod. I think the other function of the anti-flicker device is to put info on the circuit so a smart car won't think the bulbs out to trigger some dash light or something to let the driver know they've got a burned out bulb. Our Zed's aren't that smart so I'll bet I won't need the anti-flicker. Here's what I see the before and after of Dave's harness on the headlights as I really don't think it makes a difference if you're north or south of the equator.

Did I miss something?
This one is much more reasonable and open for some fudge room "OBO". Some of the weather stripping looks like it could use replacing but overall pretty nice. https://www.hemmings.com/classifieds/dealer/datsun/240z/2111497.html

72 240 slave cylinder bolt screw up, good day / bad day
I have a compressor and my friend lent me this https://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-MV6835-Vacuum-Brake-Bleeding/dp/B0015POUXM Makes bleeding brakes and clutch a one man job and it's a breeze. The pictured upside down tank keeps the reservoir full while the other end hooks up to the compressor and sucks the fluid through.

1972 Float Adjustment ...
I'm partial to the ones that have brass contacts, I think they conduct better. https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/standard+motor+products,JH66,distributor+cap,7120 https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=46494&cc=1209169&jsn=366

New Exhaust for my Early '71
Thanks! Mine is actually not the MSA Premium exhaust system, just the coated headers are from MSA. The pipe and resonator/muffler were custom fit and installed. The resonator tucked into the tunnel extremely well.

New Exhaust for my Early '71
Thanks! I'm pretty sure you're right on the direction and it doesn't make any difference with these mufflers. Same same either way. I can't find anything that says inlet or outlet in the specs.

New Exhaust for my Early '71
I went with the 6 to 1 ceramic coated headers from MSA and then just went to an exhaust shop and had Magnaflow with 2 1/2" pipe all the way back. Used this resonator and muffler. Very pleased with the way it turned out, both fit and sound! Not too loud and no drone while cruising. A question that I have is on the MSA catalog for their premium exhaust they talk about installing the muffler at an angle? Mine is in flat and I really like the way that it's tucked up out of site. I have zero exhaust smell in the cabin either with closed or open windows. Does anyone know why MSA says to angle the muffler?

Velocity Stacks?
Great video! Looks like with about any air filter (I have the single ITG) that we're limited to a 40 to 50mm stack. Would be nice to see this same test done with a 240Z.

Velocity Stacks?
Thanks! I'd guess Datsun came up with this height for best overall power/performance.

Velocity Stacks?
Hopefully someone will find all this info useable. The HJG46W-4 is the carburetor for the 71 Z. This carburetor along with all 240z / 260Z's is listed as having a bore of 1.811in (46mm), this must be at the throttle valve plate as I used my micrometer and measure 43mm at the carburetor inlet. It does appear from this diagram that the throat? is widened on the intake manifold side of the venture. None of this info really helps to answer any of my questions in this thread. Hopefully someone with the stock air cleaner can measure the height of the integrated velocity stacks and post in this thread. Who knew it would be this hard to figure out which stacks would be compatible with these SU's beyond what's available through MSA!

Velocity Stacks?
And now for 1 more question... What is the height of the velocity stack (referred to as Air horn) in the stock air filter back plate for the 4 screw carbs?
-
Velocity Stacks?
Next question... From all I've been able to glean from my friend google the Hitachi 3 and 4 screw round tops are HS style SU's. Looking at different listings for velocity stacks there are several HSn listings, HS2, HS4, HS6 and HS8! I can't find anywhere that lists what the HSn is for the Hitachi 4 screw round top SU's. Would any of you 240Z 4 screw SU experts know what the HS number is? Or if the Hitachi's even fit this HSn nomenclature?

Round Tops Fuel Systems
Slightly unrelated... Last year when I did a full fuel system cleaning, tank lining and hose replacement with E85 rated lines I also asked ZTherapy about E85 fuel with their rebuilds and they told me that they ran a soak test a few years ago and saw no ill effects. I have no personal experience since I've run nothing but non-ethanol fuel since the fuel system refresh.

Velocity Stacks?
Do these fit the 4 screw roundtop SU's on an early '71 240Z? http://aptfast.com/showitem.aspx?id=102637&name=Ram Pipe Full Radius HS2 1.5" Tall&

Need advice on brake rotors for '72 240Z
I'm guessing this is what you were referring to with the IMI pads? http://www.wagnerbrake.com/products/brakes/wagner-tq-thermoquiet.html The description sounds like the shims are integrated in the pads. You should be able to get them at O'Reilly for $29.00 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/b/thermoquiet-5227/brake-systems-16456/brake-pads-shoes-16515/brake-pads-12845/a99314144bb6/wagner-thermoquiet-ceramic-front-brake-pads/pd161/4783833/1971/nissan/240z?manufacturer=true

SUs and pumps
If you make that trip again, get off I-15 in Nephi Utah and head south to Levan Utah. That's a couple hundred more miles of US 89 and it's all fun!

Size? Fuel Line Replacement
I used 5/16 on the line from the tank to the fuel rail. 3/16 on the return line from the fuel rail to the tank. What's the possibility that you have the lines on the fuel rail reversed? Seems like if these were inadvertently reversed it would cause all kinds of engine run problems.
-
Size? Fuel Line Replacement
If this is the return line from the fuel rail I used 3/16 as I stated in the prior post. The supply side (where the stock fuel filter is) is 5/16.

Clutch master cyl replacement problem
This one from MSA was a direct swap and perfect fit. I also replaced the slave at the same time. If you do the slave make sure you get the correct one. The stock '71 has an adjustable plunger and return spring. KEEP YOUR SPRING, it's no longer available. http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/21-2091 http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/classic22b01d/21-2101

1972 240Z Sells for $37K at Barrett-Jackson Auction
Does that get added to the bid price or does BJ just skim their 20% off the bid price?

Worn out key re-cut
David Lee Roth was the lead singer in the band Van Halen which is named after its founder(s) - Eddie and Alex "Van Halen". David Lee was the singer on Van Halen's #1 hit "Jump". Edit: Sorry this is so off topic from where the OP started.

1972 240Z Sells for $37K at Barrett-Jackson Auction
I had the same glitch and so I took the screen snip from it that I posted above. That's where I got the $40,700 figure, right off the listing I posted.

1972 240Z Sells for $37K at Barrett-Jackson Auction
That just seems odd. I would have thought that if the car sold for $37,000 Barrett-Jackson would take their 10% from that amount and the seller would get $33,300. Wasn't aware that the buyer had 10% tacked onto the price they bid for the car?? That just seems wrong, but what do I know! Seems like all other transactions like this work the way I think they work. Picture a Barrett-Jackson car selling for $250,000 that also has a reserve where Barrett-Jackson ups the anti to even more... That adds over $25,000 to the price. I guess if you can pay $250,000 then the tack on is just chump change.

1972 240Z Sells for $37K at Barrett-Jackson Auction
Interesting. The wife and I went to Barrett-Jackson last year (2017) and didn't see a single Z or ZX car.

1972 240Z Sells for $37K at Barrett-Jackson Auction
Looks like it's had the alternator upgrade, can't see the voltage regulator and the fuel filter appears to be mounted where the regulator would have been. It's missing the fresh air ducts from the radiator mounting panel to the front fender wells too.
