  1. The final exterior paint stage is getting close. This week I finish off the last bits that need to be painted before the body, including the most difficult part. The roll cage.
  2. This week I get into painting the rest of the inner parts. Another big step to finishing the paint.
  3. This week it is back to sanding and primer on the 680, but it all heads towards getting it ready for the final paint.
  4. This week I finally get the colour onto my 240z. It has almost been 12 months of work to get to this point, and it still has a long way to go, but it is great to reach this milestone.
  5. Nice work. If you noticed with all the work I put into my bonnet, I ended up giving up and just bought a repro one. I am ashamed of myself for caving in, but I gave it my best ?
  6. This week I start the final stages of sanding to prep the car for paint.
  7. This week I got the interior cleaned up and painted.
  8. Lumber here is definitely in mm not inches by the way. I have done a lot of carpentry and it is pretty spot on. Structural here is bang on 90x45mm, etc, we don't have 2"x4"s like the US have. Not 100% sure on the steel though.
  9. That may very well be the case, but my small brain can't handle all those fractions, so I work in mm ?
  10. This weeks job was to mount my seats to the car, but nothing ever goes smoothly, and there is always that last bit of rust...
  11. This week I finish assembling my L28 engine for my 240z and do the timing.
  12. Yep. The front cover needs to go back on before the oil pan.
  13. This week I finish off the head assembly and mount it to the block. It is coming together and I am getting excited.
  14. This week I get into the assembly of my L28's head for my Datsun 240z
  15. Yep. I briefly mentioned it, but I am following the book 'how to rebuild your L series engine' so hopefully it all goes together the way it should ?
  16. This week I finally get to rebuild the bottom end of my L28 for my Z.
  17. No, basically that is it for me. I am not too worried about the light sanding I have done, and I don't think I have made any crazy weak points to worry about. The engine is not going to be under a huge amount of stress anyway, as I will be running the factory rev limit.
  18. This week I am getting stuck into the L28 engine for my Datsun 240z. That includes balancing the pistons and rods.
  19. Well I am quite happy, I just went through and measured the clearances of my pistons and the bores including the taper and it is all well within spec which is a relief. I actually thought the bores would have more taper than they do, but the largest taper is 0.05mm. As for the piston to bore clearance they area all around 0.11mm where standard is 0.05 and max is 0.22. The crank is also well within spec, so I can still use standard bearings. Hopefully this should all go together nicely.
  20. That is good to know. If mine are too far out of wack, I may need to look at something, but hopefully I can 'run what I brung'.
  21. I recently got myself a set of outside micrometers and a set of spring T things (I can't remember there correct name off the top of my head) so I should be able to measure everything correctly. I know the bores do have some taper, I just need to see how much. I don't have a budget for a bore and new pistons, so I hope they are good.
  22. They are definitely not a practical solution that is for sure. I am sure they are terrible to actually use, but it is more about the overall aesthetic of the car ?
  23. This week I fit the mirrors to the front guards and then start cleaning up the pistons to get them ready to re-assemble the L28 engine for my Z.
  24. I just use a wax and grease remover, but the big thing is to make sure you rough it up enough so that the paint has something to 'key' into. Make sure you use a primer first of course, and I always use a dust coat first. Then gradually build up to wet coats. Often if you try to go for a wet coat straight off the bat, you will end up with issues even if you have cleaned it up really well.
