  1. Yes, the 680G is officially For Sale. After 2 years building it, I unfortunately need to move it on to keep plowing ahead with the Alfarrari and 911 builds. In this video I do the final few touches to finish it off.
  2. This is my 3rd attempt at repairing my dash and hopefully the last. This time I have a go at flocking.
  3. It was a long build, but my Datsun 240z affectionately know as the 680g is done. Here is the whole build from start to finish.
  4. Good to know it all sounds normal. I just took it on it's first spirited shakedown run and it is such a blast to drive. The steering is pretty twitchy at high speed on the dodgy country roads, but the tramlining is to be expected with the width of the wheels and the camber it has. Overall, I love it ?
  5. The 680g is finally registered and in this episode I get to take it out on the road. Spoiler, it sounds awesome!
  6. I finally have my meeting with the engineer to see if he is happy to sign off on all of my modifications. Fingers crossed.
  7. Now the car is running I just have a few bits and pieces to sort out before I can get it registered.
  8. 175kph. That dyno is strange though working in HP and ft/lbs as most here in Aus use KW and NM.
  9. Are you talking about the road speed reading? The Dyno was all working well.
  10. The engine was in the car, not on a stand so that should give you a hint ?
  11. Yep. I didn't talk about the tuner as he doesn't want to be flooded with calls and more work as he has plenty to keep him going forever ?, but he is basically THE Datsun guy in Aus' and has been building Datsun rally cars forever. As for the washers, I got the engine as a bare block so I didn't know about them and when I fitted the manifold, I didn't really think about it too much. What we actually ( or they to be specific) did, was pulled off the manifold and put it on a mill to match the thickness of the inlet manifold to the exhaust manifold and then they all bolted down nicely.
  12. I finally sort out the running issues and no surprises it was my fault. We then tune it up on the dyno and get that final figure.
  13. That is a handy diagram. One of my viewers pointed out that the way I have it, any overflow in the tank will go straight into the carbon canister. The easy fix is to just turn the T piece at the fuel filler neck, so that the breather line is facing up not down. Hopefully that will avoid any issues.

  17. After 18 long months of tinkering in the garage, I finally get to drive the 680G.
  18. Thanks Mike. I will have to play around with mine, but like you, I have now got it going. It is not as intended by 123, but while it is working I am ok with it. It is something I can play around more with later, but overall I love that it is flexible and programmable. That makes all the difference to me.
  19. Yes. You can program in the advance at whatever RPM intervals and advance you would like, which is a great idea in my book. As for the shaft drive, I could set the drive up 90 degrees out, so that the rotor sits in the correct position, but it is working for now, so I am not sure if I can be bothered pulling it all apart again right now.

  21. Yep. I ensured that was all correct. As for the base, with this distributor it doesn't matter, it will spin 360 degrees.
  22. Also just to clarify, it is a brand new chain and I tested the timing with the timing light ?
  23. Exactly what I am thinking. The marks show that the sweet spot is over 30 degrees advanced, but that is just what is indicated, obviously not what it is actually running. The reason I think it is the drive gear, is because from memory it is about 12 teeth, so one tooth would be around 30 degrees.
  24. Yep. I played with it again yesterday and I have actually figured out that the timing was heavily retarded. The issue now is that it's happy place gives me a reading of over 30 degrees advanced timing at idle, so I am wondering if I installed the drive shaft for the dizzy one tooth out?
