  1. This week it was a matter of doing a bunch of stuff that I had to get done on the Z before I can start throwing colours around.
  2. Why would I ever go somewhere there are no cars! I have no idea what I would do? ?
  3. I am back from my hectic week building my engine in the US and I am getting back into working on the Z. This week I got into primer and cleaning.
  4. The more expensive gun does give a more consistent finish, and if you were doing this every day, then you would justify it, but for the rare job at home, use an old gun for primer and save your dollars for the good gun for the final finish ?
  5. He actually initially got me 47's by mistake, but I changed them over as I think they would be a bit big for my engine set up. They do look sexy though ?
  6. Realistically, the finish for primer doesn't require a special gun. When it comes to colour and particularly clear, that is when a good gun is worth while. Just to get a nice clean consistent coverage. Unfortunately not this time. This will be a flying trip, I get in on Sunday arvo, work the whole week on the engine and then fly out Saturday arvo.
  7. This week I get a quick coat of Epoxy Primer on the shell.
  8. It is not a 2.4. It is an L28 with flat top pistons, a P90a head shaved 1.8mm, and a 72 degree cam.
  9. I sometimes leak info on the builds on Instagram. If you like surprises, then just following the YouTube is better anyway ?
  10. Ok, glad you see that as lucky ;) . I am very lucky having the time I do to work on these projects, so hopefully I get to drive it one day (I have never driven an S30).
  11. It still won't be a concours winner, but I will try to make it the best I can.
  12. This week it is time to prep the body of the Z for primer.
  13. It took a lot longer than I had hoped, but I finally get the body work finished and get into painting some high fill.
  14. I am changing the chain, but I think the simplest method for me is to use the spacers I have for now. Good to know it can be done.
  15. Yep, I already had a set of .9mm shims. Now I have just gotten a second set to take it to exactly 1.8mm.
  16. I wasn't happy with the results of my compression calculations previously, so I have had the head shaved again and it is time to recalculate.
  17. Nice work. I am a little ahead of you at the moment with mine. The body filler is time consuming to get it just right, but be patient and you will get there. Looking good so far.
  18. Thanks guys. I am learning as I go as well, so I am glad you guys learning something from my mistakes
  19. This week I continued the body work on my Z and painted the valve cover. Jeff
  20. I am with on on driving classic cars. I much prefer them. Basically all modern cars drive the same, compared to classics, where every car has it's own little quirks and personality. I have 4 classic cars from the early 70's but the only one that is on the road is my Bug, and although it is super slow, I make excuses to drive it because it is so much more fun than the new stuff.
  21. I wish I had a Z to drive. In fact I have never driven one! Hopefully soon. The prices in Australia seem to be A LOT higher for old Z's than they are over there, so grabbing a couple now sounds like a good idea.
  22. Thanks mate. Sorry for your loss, but as esmit says, building a project is a great distraction. I basically taught myself along the way, and I love learning new skills. That is the great thing about YouTube. Whenever i have the next thing to tackle and I have never done it before, I just watch a few videos and give it a go. I think most people have no idea of what they are capable of if the just put their mond to it.
  23. I spend at least one day each week on this car, so to me it still feels super slow!
