240Z in movies
I was watching Dr. Dolittle with one of my kids, and just about 30 seconds from the end of the movie, they are walking down a street, and if you look down the street to the cross street at the end, parked along the cross street is a Z. It was a first-gen Z, but I couldn't tell if it was a 240 or 280 or what, since 1) I was too surprized, and 2) it is only on for a couple of seconds.

Seats - RX7, Miata, etc.
Here's a pic of the Seat I took out of my 240Z. As you can see, it has the springs, even though the car is an 11/69 build, which tells me that the PO has replaced the seats at some time in the past. However, on the foam, you can still see the cross-hatched impressions from the straps that were original to the car, so he obviously used the original padding on a newer seat, without the straps. I know he "refreshed" the car in about 1992, which was before, I suppose, new seat inserts were available. FWIW.

240Z wiring diagram you can read
You can't attach files to a PM. Can't you download the zip file from the post above?

240Z wiring diagram you can read
Hopefully this will work. This .zip has .tif and .gif versions of the diagram. The original is a high-res .tif image. Looks pretty good overall. Wiring_Diagram_240Z.zip

Which cars had the radiator support painted black?
You're right. And don't worry about being picky. That's what I'm trying to be right now - I want to find out what this car looked like when it was new. I may not be able to afford to get all the way back to 100% original, but I'll do the best that I can. The paint code was the least of their problems. They even painted over the engine bay dataplate! (on the engine bay passenger side). I went back through my pictures (many hundreds) and found the attached image that I took before disassembly. Wiring harness, back of the horns, and the front of the radiator are all oversprayed silver! So obviously the front of the radiator support was painted... Thanks.

Which cars had the radiator support painted black?
Chris, does #26 have the paint? #215 does NOT, but I know that the car was repainted the original 901 silver. I know that some of the engine bay was (badly) painted, but the front of the radiator support looks original compared to the areas that I know were repainted. Pic attached...

How do I remove pistons from the caliper?
Back in my yout', before I had a garage and air tools, I rebuilt the calipers on my Z once. To get the pistons out, I used air pressure - from a hand tire pump! It worked, albeit a little hard to hold everything in place. Had to use one of those cone-shaped adapters that come with sets of ball inflation needles and such. However, if you use air, DON'T GET YOUR FINGERS IN BETWEEN THE PISTONS! I made that mistake, and when one side let go, it smashed one finger nicely between the pistons. Didn't break anything, but WOW it hurt! Also seems to me that I had to make sure that they came out pretty equally, since once one is out, you can't get air to help you get the other out.

Z Parts for Christmas
No parts this year, but I got Evanow's "Z - 35 Years of Nissan's Sports Car". Pretty good so far...

problems with e-brake cable removal
On most of those clips around the car, I use a slide hammer . Kind of overkill, but I have a hook attachment for the end of the slide hammer. Just hook it on the lip of the clip, slide the hammer, and the clips come flying off! Just watch where they go....

Proud new 1970 240Z Owner!!
Welcome to the low VIN club! As Enigma says, prepare to lighten your wallet, depending on your plans for the car . Do you know how original it is?

Early SU carbs on eBay
Ah, I see that drain you're talking about on the 2nd pic - part 54. Thanks.

Early SU carbs on eBay
Only having the carbs off #215 to compare to, I am trying to following some of this to make sure that I probably have the original carbs (with this car, you never know!). Attached is a pic of the left carb. It is a 4-screw, so that's good, but what are "drain plugs in the front of the float bowls"? Do I not know what we're talking about because they aren't here? And that's good (for being early), right?

AMCO Floormats
I have a set of the "Z" mats that came with my '78 280Z.

No. Mike's instructions are no longer relevant to the operation of this website. Things are different now. Live in the present. Info on Z-repair that is 4 years old is probably still great stuff. This is not. All I'm going to say on that. Feel free to be as obstinate as you like. Bye.

However, the original directions are no longer pertinent information. We are no longer restricted to 640x480, and we can now attach mutliple pictures per post. Old information sometimes loses it's relevance. Our web site is much more advanced now than it was 4 years ago.

Help.. 280ZX FUEL INJECTION ISSUE
Go to this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=79140&mode=linear In the third post, there is a link to the FI manual that might do you some good. Lots of troubleshooting stuff. Or: http://www.72hours.net/~zcar/280zfuelinjectionbook.pdf

Spindle trouble
I'll second that. I acutally bent the press shaft on my HF 12 ton trying to press out one spindle pin. Then I got a pin-puller, and so far I've done 4 with no problems, including the one that wouldn't come out with the 12-ton press.

Contemplating a 280z purchase
$9K is way too much. About 2 years ago I picked up a '78 280Z with a 5 speed for less than half that, and it is as good or better than you describe. Had 118K on it at the time.

Hand throttle?
And there was a hand-throttle in #215 when I got it, although the cable between the pedal and the lever was gone. I now have an NOS setup, and a rounded choke and throttle handle . I have most of a new or nice condition air injection system to use. NOS air gallery, check valve, the big hoses, and a fairly nice pump from Zola. I have a few AB valves, although the NOS one I have is not correct. Should look nice if I ever get it done!

Hand throttle?
I believe it is a small vacuum valve that "damps" the throttle closure for emmissions purposes. So if you quickly take your foot off the gas, this device slightly slows the throttle closure and allows a little more air into the manifold. This keeps a rich slug of mixture from moving through the system, so you don't get a burst of unburned fuel out the tailpipe. That's what I THINK it is for. I can't see how it would affect power at all, so it is an emissions device that I dont' see any harm in leaving alone. When I get to actually working on the engine restore on my 240, I'm going to restore the entire air injection system. My 2 cents. Mark

ARRRGGGG My Z got hit!!
Not stupid! Excellent law! Only impacts the stupid left lane bandits that like to sit in the left lane and block traffic. Stay right except to pass! Get outta my way! If you can't pass, don't get in the left lane.
