Ray are you in Australia??? If so the E88 off the L24E you refer to has smaller combustion chambers than earlier E88 heads ie 260Z, early Skylines, etc. I've been told and since verified the volume is around 41-42cc's and have performed the same modification to my L28 to raise C/R. These heads also have a inlet valve head diameter of 42mm, only 2mm difference to the N42, which is fine unless you're wanting to go all out and use the motor for high-po racing! I performed this mod last year and it brought my L28 to life; mind you I'm still running dished pistons so my C/R is around the 9.4:1 mark, but this was achieved by shaving the head .030" which reduced the chamber volume to around 37cc's. As a cheap modification and first step to significantly improve performance I would strongly recommend it, much easier than fitting flat top pistons for starters and unless you want a heap of more power then go flat tops and triple carbs. Current specs of my engine is N42 L28 block w/dished pistons, Skyline R30 elec dizzy, Skyline L24E E88 head shaved .030" (37cc) with stock cam 240Z twin carbs Extractors C/R 9.4:1 3.9:1 open differential Ideally I'd like the route of flat tops with the N42 head (10:1 C/R) but all I spent to perform this mod was $250AUD, including new chain, tensioner, gaskets, and time cleaning up. Cheers, James

  3. Cutting the rear arches isn't too difficult, it's the next step of welding/riveting the metal into place which can be. If you've never done this sort of thing before send it off to the panel shop, don't ask me how much it will cost, no idea.
  4. Lachlan, Could be that a dual filament globe was put into the outers just by accident or was the only globe on hand for a quick replacement. If the outer sockets are "two wired" only then I'd say this is the case. By the looks of the pics it suggests that the inner lamps are brake and tail combination, with the outer tail only. One other question I have for you; what offset is recommended for the C110 GTR, rear in particular... Thanks
  5. Same bonnet colour, although my car is blue. Michael, do one of those Photoshop tricks and paint the rest of that car blue!! The look of the grille is the same but not GTR of course, and the stance is almost the same as well. Pretty much same look but without flares for now. James ps; gotta run guys, speak tomorrow.
  6. Don't get me wrong I like the GTR look and will seriously consider fitting the flares (after all I'm getting set made!) but I'm pretty impressed with the look I managed to get from the standard body. Wheels and suspension really do change a cars appearance!
  7. Whereabout did you see it?? I'm in Melbourne and I noticed in your avatar you've got QLD/Melb?
  8. I've got to take a photo of my car soon; let's just say I'm very happy with the colour and the stance of the car I'm contemplating not fitting the flares! With the wheels/tryes/suspension combo the car looks quite mean, especially with the nice touch of a matt black bonnet. Thats enough for now, you can visual the rest when it's done! :cheeky:
  9. You're going all out on this C110 aren't you Lachlan?! Well my brother is living in Qld now so when I come up in my car I'll pay you guys (+Razor) a visit! As for the dash, peel the woodgrain off; clean the bacl surface of any residue with gunk remover, whatever works. Lightly sand and clean. Now buy some matt silver spray paint, let it dry, then spray some clear on. Once all dry, sand back with 400 sandpaper and it looks pretty cool, almost identical. Whe doing this be careful to mask the gauge areas, they stay black!:classic:
  10. Go down to your local wreckers, check out some R31 Skylines (4 round tail light models); they work with tail/brake system. From memory these aren't too different from the K sockets, so you should be OK. If not you can always use a file to make it fit! James:classic:
  11. 3 weeks it'll be ready. Razor, get a 2nd hand grille from the wreckers, cut the centre out of the grille, re-assemble, paint gloss black/clear and fit. It's only when you get real close up you can tell it's been chopped but apart from that it's still good. I've done this a couple of times, once I painted it black and painted the mesh grille silver. Another time I stripped it, polished the chrome and painted the mesh grille black. Either way the black/silver contrast looks real good.
  12. He's pretty busy at the moment, he's quoted me 3 weeks. I'm happy with that; time to finish the car, put it on the road and then chop the rear guards ready for flares!
  13. Yeah I was also quoted at $800 ex-Japan, aftermarket flares. Bear in mind my original flares were made from the Nissan moulds, but now they're being refabricated into another mould, so does that count??!! Anyways they fitted perfect on my car and should do for every other K out there. James
  14. Gents, We now have a supplier of the elusive C110 GTR / 240K flares. Thanks to another user on this forum (Gee) who mentioned the supplier, CHALLENGE FIBREGLASS in Camberwell, Melbourne. Well actually as stated before I've taken my old flares to him, he's taken a look and is willing to forego the cost of making moulds for these, so future flares should be in good supply! I've been quoted at $180 for the set (front and rear) which isn't bad considering I bought them originally at $140 just over a year ago. Contact details are: PHIL @ CHALLENGE FIBREGLASS 525 BURKE RD, CAMBERWELL, VIC, 3124. TEL:- 03 9822 2998 (MOBILE):- 0418 567 019 Kyteler (Michael), He is able to freight items to NZ, he wasn't able to provide a $$ figure though. Anyways, happy motoring and we should see some GTR replicas out and about shortly! Cheers, James :classic: :classic:
  15. Just about to post in the Parts section, stand by :classic: Sorry I meant in the other section Body and Paintwoirk!!!
  16. I have a friend here in Melbourne who is doing this modification, just as you've asked. Apparently all you need to do is find another socket (three pronged/wired) that is designed for the tail light/brake function, connect the usual two wires plus the exisiting brake light wire. It's then a matter of getting a dual filament globe, fitting and testing. He's done it before, seen it work and seems straight foward enough. James
  17. Fellas, Got my hands on the C110-240K flares last night, will be taking them into Challenge fibreglass on Monday night (earliest available time). Edging closer to getting our hands (well yours anyway :classic: ) on them... James
  18. No worries Michael, Will see whether he can help out regarding the freight to NZ. As for the mirrors, sounds good, anyone got a set in Oz?? Just one thing on the flares though, and no offence to you Michael, those new wheels of yours look great, but when the flares are fitted, you'll need to go at least 7"- 8" wide with a nice, deep dish. The 6" wheels will look lost inside the flares, I know I tried my 280zx series 2 rims in there, look good side on but front and rear views were a little odd. Anyway I'm sure you've thought about it and considered it all, cheers. I recently bought a set of 15 X 7 rims with a deep chrome dish, these will be fitted to the K when I tub the rears and go flared. Pics available soon, fingers crossed :classic:
  19. Hey ! Was just notified by email of the new message, plus I saw you PM'd me. Gee recommended Challenge fibreglass in Melbourne, heres the latest; I told him I'm able to get my hands back on the flares I had made last year, he can make a mould out of these and use this to make many more sets of flares from. I've been in touch with the owner of my old 240K and he's said "no problem, borrow the flares". So I have to tee up a time to pick them up and bring them to Challenge F'glass (Phil). He told me he will forego the cost of making the moulds so that he can use them for future projects, pretty good bloke by the sounds of it. So hopefully this Friday evening I can have an answer for you guys and let you know what kind of price we're looking at and turnaround times. Keep you posted, cheers.

Just found a 280C today with an F54 block and N42 head at the wreckers. Check for flat tops, no luck, damn!- dished pistons.
  21. Fellas, I may be able to source the above from another supplier. As I can't get my hands on the original moulds anymore, this gentleman has suggested getting a ballpark figure of how many sets of these would be sold if he made moulds up from my old flares. Apparently making the moulds is expensive, so he won't bother doing this for just 1-2 sets. An expression of interest would be good from anyone who would purchase these. I'll then provide him with how many sets people want and he can decide from there whether it's worth his while. By the way, I was able to buy mine (set of 4) for $140 last year, not sure on the going price this time round. Feedback appreciated, James.
  22. Grab the flywheel, clutch, bearing & collar from the K, plus the other items you mentioned. While there grab the front lower g'box cover, from memory it's different to the auto cover. James
  23. :classic: :classic: :classic: ROFL Love these ideas, another pisser!!!
