Where on the car is it mounted. I frequent 280z’s in salvage yards all the time and next time I can take a look for you . It might be a 6-8 weeks before I go back. I’ll put it on my list but let me know if you buy one somewhere else. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Concur with the above ^^ comments. Here is a pic of the seal I replaced during my rebuild. I think it’s supposed to be flush like this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bought a 1/2 Craftsman impact wrench that plugs in. Took my crank bolt off like it was nothing. https://www.lowes.com/pd/CRAFTSMAN-7-5-Amp-1-2-in-Variable-Speed-Corded-Impact-Wrench/1000751798.

Found one on Oklahoma. Call this number. It’s a salvage yard. 918-422-8829 Their stock number for that engine is 868. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s way too much money in my opinion. The yard near me wanted $360 for the L28ET and another $400 for the turbo. eBay is not the place to shop? Where do you live? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I brushed it on with a foam brush. It seems to be a self leveling paint so I didn’t really have any steaks. I use that stuff all the time and it always come out very smooth . No, that pan didn’t come off a running engine. Not sure how long it had been sitting. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Resist...that’s what I had to do. My wife hates my Z too. Says “what a piece of crap”. She only appreciates something with headed seats, SiriusXM radio, adaptive cruise control and CarPlay. I don’t need that crap. Wait until she finds out it doesn’t even have cup holders. I had to tell my wife, why do you want to stop me from enjoying my hobbies...that’s not what your do to someone you care about. You can also say, you can’t get much money for it the way it is but with some work it has some value and working on cars is better than drinking booze and gambling. It’s a harmless hobby. Resist! My pan had that black paint inside with some surface rust mixed in. Got this pan from wal280z (thanks bud). See top pan on pic. I wire wheeled it clean and left it bare on thee inside and then painted the outside with POR-15 followed but a high temp clear. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dave, yea I’ll be in and out all summer for work. Let me know. So digging through my bins of parts that came with the car I found two old Clutch Master Cylinders. This car has gone few several over its life it seams. I took some pics of them and I’ve come up with an idea for an easier install. You see that the shaft that connects to the pedal is easily removed with the a retaining collar. I can use the shaft in the car now and just take the new one off the new master. If there is sufficient room to get the collar on it would negate the Jiu-Jitsu maneuvering under the pedal. All I need to verify is the shaft length is correct. The Clovis pin is pretty new so that’s not going be be worn. Option 2, would be to unscrew the shaft from the u-shaped bracket that goes around pedal. I could spin the entire assembly until it’s at the proper length and then bolt the master to the firewall. I think this was one of Captain Obvious’ idea. See pics, bottom one is an OEM Nabco. Still have to remove one from the car. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Dave, maybe I should replace the slave as well just to make sure I’m not stuck again or made a bad assumption with the master. I have to see if so can get an OEM one in time. I’m on a tight schedule. 4 post car lift will be ready for pickup tomorrow at the freight terminal. Then I have to build the lift. I don’t think there is time between now and my next trip to get a new OEM slave. Probably could get a aftermarket one by tomorrow. I think I’ll buy a cheap come-along at harbor freight I guess as a back up plan. “Proper planning prevents wizz poor performance” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s how all my projects work out...nut or screw somehow always finds the a wormhole the the next universe. I think it’s a curse I have but I can’t find my wallet most mornings either. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I like the front bumperettes. Not sure if I’d put them on my car but they don’t look bad. The rear bumper bars on the back are strange and I can’t think of a purpose. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Great advice. I was going to try a couple other techniques. Wish I would have gotten this advice earlier because that install wasn’t easy and I have a bum shoulder that made it extra hard. Thanks for the tip. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This past week, I went to get my Z ready to move to my new place from where it’s being stored, I knew the clutch hydraulics was having an Issue, because the last time I went to see the car the pedal had no back pressure. I assumed I got a either a leak or air in the system, so I bleed both the master and slave cylinder and it was totally unsuccessful. I had replaced both the master and the slave about 18 months ago when I first started trying to get this car road worthy. I think they are both made by Wagner? This will be the 3rd master I’ve installed. The first I got from AutoZone and that one wouldn’t fit due to the rod being the wrong length. I tried to cut it and then it was too short. No biggie it was line $23. Then I ordered one from RockAuto which is the one in there now (about the same price) , BTW, I found it to be difficult to install due to the limited space under the pedals, and having to hold the pedal, while compressing the road and holding a light all at the same time while inserting the clevis pin. I remember saying to myself, “I hope I don’t have to do this again”. Not the case...So, it appear the master is bad now, it won’t transfer pressure to the slave and when I push the pedal with the cap off I can see a small boil of liquid come out of the reservoir. Well, this weekend, I decided I was going buy the real deal and ordered the Nabco master cylinder from a Nissan Dealership locally. The lesson learned for me in this is, it’s almost always better to buy OEM, this isn’t a hard and fast rule but if I would have done it right the first time I would have saved time, money and a lot of inconvenience. The new OEN master was $67 plus $4 tax and local pickup, being cheap doesn’t always pay...and sometimes it cost more, Buy once.....cry once. Lesson learned,

The video of that car is pretty cool. Guy breaks out the song “staying alive” by the BeeGees with some pretty cool video which I’m not sure if it’s a drone flown by one hand or a crazy alien selfie-stick. Either way it was pretty cool. Love the car! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes, you should have no problems. If you bought a rebuilt cardone distributor it comes with a metal collar. I rebuilt two old ZX distributors last summer and one had a plastic collar and the other a metal one. They both fit fine. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, we shouldn’t have to justify our hobbies with our loved one but reality is a different story. My wife cannot understand most of the things I do when I’m not working. I don’t watch much TV, I like to be outside doing something, learning something, or building something. I find satisfaction taking a task and making it right. I was building sleeves in my garage last week and had my 13 yr old son helped me and the shelf was slightly off level. Bubble touching one edge of level line. He saw my dissatisfaction and said “Dad, you can’t accept anything unless it’s perfect”. He’s right, “it’s a curse and a blessing I told him.” We took it down and redid it. The people in our lives should value what makes you happy and that’s how I explain it to my wife. I like this forum because you don’t have to wonder if someone is going to judge you and make an unprofessional comment. It’s very liberating! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So everyone knows.....I didn’t buy this Viper it was given to me by my father who was quite an amazing man. He came from humble, lower income family beginnings. Was a 2x Vietnam vet who flew helicopters in the war. He came home with pretty severe PTSD and was so emotionally damaged and saddened by his experience that he decided to become a doctor. He packed up the family and moved us to Italy in 1973 and got his MD in Rome taught in Italian (which he learned while there). We moved back to the states and he became an ER doctor, opened several clinics and gave Free medical services to all Vets, Police and Firefighters and well as people who could not afford medical services. He traveled to Honduras every few years to give free medical care to the poor there. He loved fast cars and when he bought this Viper new it was the ultimate American sports car. He helped more people than anyone I know. He passed away sitting on the living room watching the Scfi channel of was we think was a stroke in 2018. This car is special to me because it is one of the few things I have of his. He put all 38,800 miles on it and to sit in it and drive and the closest I can be to being with him. It holds tremendous sentimental value to me. He surely wasn’t the pretentious man that people may think of those who own cars like this. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve always felt Toyota was king when it comes to reliability. They’re not the most inspiring cars but they just work. I had a 1988 4x4 Toyota pickup and that truck couldn’t be killed. Flipped in on I-95 in the blizzard of 1995 and the wrecker came, pulled it back over and put a quart of oil on and said , I quote: “it’s a Toyota, go put another 100k on it and call me in the 10 yrs”. I sold it 10 hrs later with about 300k on it for $2200 and only paid $6500 when I got it used in 1990. Should have never sold it! Of the cars I’ve owned I have 2 sell regrets selling. 1. 1988 Toyota 4x4 2. 1993 Mazda RX-7 ZH, looks like the Fords are running In the middle of the pack (see pic) . Their full size trucks are pretty reliable so this probably reflect some of the crappy cars they’ve made. They’ve refined that truck design so the F-150 is likely one of the best, most dependable trucks out there. I recently bought a 2021 Chevy Suburban ..to drag the growing family, dogs around and crap . It’s the first American car I ever bought . I hope I don’t regret it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I first got my Z I went to Zcar.com. Found it to be a place full of immature people. Stubbled on CZCC and really have to say that it’s kept me motivated to keep and make this Z great . You all are keeping these old cars alive. Found the Viper problem. Swapped coil packs.....no change. Didn’t have a Noid light so I decided to just swap injectors and the problem migrated to the #3 cylinder. These injectors are less money than the Z ones. Most of the parts are inexpensive. OEM Spark plugs were $1.28 ea. Coil pack $44 (5 coils per packs per). Replaced the ignition switch and it was $45. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

ZH, I don’t disagree but people in different parts of the world have different attitudes, mostly impacted by their surroundings. Spend a day in Baltimore or Miami then go to Billings Montana . If you can’t see this difference in the population then maybe I’m crazy. Ive been to every state in the last year but 5. When you grow up in a large metro area you see the world differently than a guy who grew up on a Iowa farm. In the south people use terms like Sir and Ma’am all the time. We have a recent large influx of people here in NC from NY since COVID hit and you cannot deny they have a different attitude about driving, and general patience. So while generalizing is generally not a great idea generalizing has some merits, I wouldn’t base it on looks but on upbringing . There are good and bad people everywhere like you said. I’m talking about how people act in public. I was in Japan on a the bullet train and we were watching a video on an iPad (low volume) and the conductor came and scolded us for being “disruptive”. People there are very respectful of the people around them even in the large cities like Tokyo. Again it’s about culture and upbringing. America isn’t the same everywhere. Totally agree Granny. My thought is if you don’t like the post or can’t provide an appropriate comment then move on. Nobody is forcing you to respond. People say things behind a keyboard they would never say to you in person and it’s one of the problems with social media. Social media works on people like Wonder Women’s magic rope. Who you are is unveiled, where in the real world you might get a tooth knocked out for the comment, on the computer you can be the jerk you really are without real consequences. I hate to say this but as I get older I generally dislike the general population, I see more self absorbed, inconsiderate humans (worst are under 30). I see it the most when I’m at the airport traveling for my job. I get to do a lot of people watching and boy or boy are there some really losers out there. People are living in an alternate universe. You really see a difference around the country and the world . Worst people reside in the Southern CA, Las Vegas, (Vegas absolute worst followed by LA) areas who are a close second are NJ and NY. The south is pretty good and the mid-west are the best and most considerate. Europeans are less in your face and generally more considerate and less “me first”. You won’t see idiots in a European airport in their pajamas with slippers, blabbering out-loud on their phones so everyone can hear their conversation on speaker. I have a 10 day European work trip starting in Paris next month. Hopefully I’ll have my vaccine by then! All my older family members and wife already got it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks. Yep I put a new pug in yesterday no change. The plug looked terrible. Today I’ll swap wires from a different cylinder if that doesn’t work then trying the coil pack. I got a funny story about this car. So when my Z arrived at my Mom’s house after I towed it from Memphis. I had to get both cars stuffed into my the barn. The Viper had a dead battery so I pushed it out, and beyond the door the grass was thick and at least 8” tall. I had to push it far enough to get the Z in . After getting the Z in I realized the Viper was stuck in the grass and wouldn’t move. I had few options and was running low on time so I tied a tow strap between the cars and the Z after an recent awakening from.20 year comma pulled a 20 year old Viper back into the barn. That Z engine’s last contribution before I pull it out that engine. Quick update. Had to wait to buy the garage lift to stack these cars, Z still in the barn 2.5 hrs away. Covid set production back and finally I will pick it up at the end of the month (when I sit hits standby for work in Greensboro) . Then the Z will finally arrive to begin it transformation. Side note, Mom’s barn was broken into recently, they took the Z keys, pulled off the charger and tried to start it. Cover was off and door ajar. Good thing the clutch slave cylinder was dead and the clutch wouldn’t engage. Guess I had a leak on the line that might have saved the car. Car was also full of mold, so I’m not happy. Barn is somewhat isolated from the house. Maybe a football field away. See pics. Last pic is both cars in the barn the day I towed the Viper in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wanted to give a compliment to the caliber and quality of people that are regular contributors to this forum. Seems like many other car forum just don’t have the magic this one has. I have a 20 yr old Dodge Viper that was given to me by my father before he passed away a few years ago. It sat for at least 5 years in his barn so once I got it here it needed some TLC but ran great. This week I took it out to get inspected and then went and ran it pretty hard. As I pulled in the driveway I got a Check Engine light. My OBD2 reader flagged a #2 misfire. Well, I went and posted on one of the Viper forums expecting a similar group of folks as we have here on CZCC and wow what a disappointment. Some of the folks on there are pricks, providing snarky comments that just turned me off. Won’t ever post on there again. This is why some other forum die. They don’t welcome new members and provide marginal help with excess useless comments. So, this forum is great because we have great people here and like many of you I appreciate that and glad to be part of it. Happy New Years by the way! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
