  1. I have extra springs if you need them. I might even have a breaker plate I got off a 280z. They’re different than the ZX plates but not sure how it compares to a 240z. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. There are too many nooks and crannies I think for a chain. If you use nuts just make sure you count them so you know if you have left any behind. I would find a local radiator shop to tank it and then you can coat it yourself with POR-15. The EPA has been putting the smack down on radiator shops at least that’s what the guy in Memphis told me. They’re getting harder to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. The place is called Commercial Radiator. 1584 2 Pl, Memphis, TN 38116 901-377-8080 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I went through this about a year ago. I was going to do it myself but I changed my mind and had it done professionally after meeting a guy who was doing it himself.and I’m glad I did. This guy put BB’s in the tank to break up the rust and could never get them all out: he has to cut the tank open to get them out and used that hole to put the POR in. It looked like a mess and environmental disaster. I took it to a shop that did work on Big rigs in Memphis. They had a hot tank and did an acid bath and then treated the inside with a red coating. He said it would last longer than anything on the market. The tank came looking brand new inside and out. Total cost was $320. Pricey but I wanted it done right and put it behind me. Wish I took before pics to show you how good of a job they did. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Wanted to share this photo. Hit the junkyard today between flights. It’s sad enough to see these cars in a junkyard. Some large animal, mule or horse crapped in the light bucket. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Jim, Let’s call it even and I’ll send your interior light bar and wire. I’m back in Memphis for work this Sunday. I’ll ship it when I’m there. Flying to Montana next week. They got low Covid-19 numbers. I’m trying to fly to low risk areas. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Funny story Bruce, it’s hard to find a good part of town there. When the sun goes down it’s like the movie “I am Legend” I get it...I spend more time than I want in Memphis. It’s a shady place. I have a car there I bought when I started working from there. It’s parked in the company parking lot at the airport. It’s a 2002 Nissan Xterra. Its manual transmission and I searched for that for one reason other than later Nissan’s builds some of the worst automatic transmissions and that was theft. I read that only 18% of Americans can drive a manual and most are over 40 yrs old. That means at minimum about 4/5 criminals wanting to steal my car will walk past mine. Car theft is very high in Memphis. Memphis had 4,450 car thefts in a single year. Cliff, Bruce has both a kill switch and a steering wheel lock bar. He had a bad cam so they wouldn’t have gotten far for too long....hehe! Here’s my Memphis bomber. She’s been a good car. Has a persistent ABS and Airbag light that I’ve chosen to ignore. 8. Hey does anyone know if a lower alternator bracket is the same for a N42 block and F54 block. I need one for my 82 motor I’m building. The cars in the yards I’ve seen are too hard to get to, bolts rusted, difficult location to reach etc... I’m thinking about just buying one. If anyone has one they want to sell me, please let me know? Ebay has one for $26 but says it’s for a 70-78. I think the F54 has the exact part but not sure. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1970-TO-1978-DATSUN-240Z-260Z-280Z-ALTERNATOR-LOWER-MOUNTING-BRACKET/233221507353?hash=item364d15c919:g:zbUAAOSwvYRb5ez5 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Well, I hope this isn’t the case but “hope” has never been a course of action that produces results. Life is beginning to return to more normal where I live. People have come to the conclusion, right or wrong that this “destroy the economy” cure is worse than the disease. We’ve had 3 deaths in my county and all were in their late 70’s and 80’s and had other morbidity issues. We had 24 cases total and everyone else but 4 have recovered completely. People’s lives are at risk from loss of income. We had 9 beach drownings last year, 3x Covid-19 deaths and we didn’t close the city and county and people didn’t loose their jobs and businesses. People are demanding the state open back up. Sorry, this post is probably for the Covid-19 thread which I have stopped following. How many lives is our $20 Billion economy worth? It’s a morbid thought but it’s real. I’ve done several aviation mishap investigations and the airlines put a $$ on you’re life. Most deaths in airline accidents are due to smoke inhalation but to put non-toxic materials in the interior of passenger jets is too expensive. They chose to spend less knowing it will mean more lost lives. I’m an optimist and I’m planning for success. Humanity can do incredible things when pushed to the brink. A breakthrough is possible. I’m plan on going to ZCon until we are closer to Sept. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I think the guide failing was a outlier..I think they robust enough unless it been in there since new. If that’s the case maybe replace. Cars are like planes, they want to be driven. The less they’re driven the less reliable they become. Driving in AZ without Air Conditioning is a no-go. Alabama humidity would suck too. Not sure if Cliff has AC. If we keep the pressure on him maybe we can get him to ditch the Camry for a weekend. I’m probably gonna take a load of crap because I’m going to try to get my car there but it’s going to be a stretch. I might make it from a mechanical perspective but the body and interior probably won’t be complete. I sold my current house last week and have it’s closing is on 15 Jun. The new house should be complete by them and then the Z arrives from my parents barn and the race is on to get her ready for a 11 hr drove to Nashville. It’s has AC, doubt it works but another thing to get sorted out before ZCon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I bet Dave WM is older than you and he drove his Z from Orlando to Pikes Peak and back with a damaged timing chain guide. If you show up in a Camry you will have to hand over your man-card immediately before you can drink a beer. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. I’m not color blind and get color tested every 6 months for work, this is a tough one. Using the process of elimination. The far right must be yellow. The second from left has to be red. This leaves brown and orange. With that I would say far left is brown making the final one orange even though it doesn’t look it. It looks a slightly golden yellow color. Colors can be weird when you put them next to each other. It’s always best to look at them with a totally white background individually. You will probably pick up the undertones you need if you do that vs setting them side-by-side. Might need to test the wires. Try the white background, you might have luck. Post pics with white background and we can help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I’m so jealous you A. Can make all this cool stuff in your garage and B. You must have a nice set of tool and gizmos in your garage to do this. The metal bearing holder inside the reluctor looks good. Not sure why they didn’t make it metal to begin with. So I’m guessing you don’t need my “extra” parts. I’m impressed you got the bearing holes perfect. The plastic stock ones seemed to have a retaining mechanism on them. Are yours just held in loosely. Probably easier to for Hitachi to manufacture the plastic ones with bearings clipped in. Would be a mess to build this on a line trying to get the bearings in loosely. When you looks at manufacturing things I’m guessing your need to balance these things. Better to minimize the possibility of human error by make a part that is dummy proof and not too difficult to assemble. The KISS principle is so true and I’m guessing it applies to manufacturing. So on the Vac Advance. Are you saying there is a measurable difference in a Vac Lock out vs Stock? Why would they design this into the system if it was a degrader? Are they some other reasons. Does Vac Advance occurs at low idle of high RPM. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. So, during a global pandemic you are forced to learn new things either by necessity or because you now have time to learn. Here are things I've leaned. - I gave myself my first haircut after 50 years of paying someone else to do it, it came out great. No more barbers required. - my son and I learned to bake bread. Made out first two loaves. He was like..."this is how bread is made..cool" -I consider myself almost an expert now on Engineered Hardwood flooring. You need help, ask me. - rebuilt 2 Hitachi distributors. I can do it in my sleep now. Now I'm not in Captain Obvious' league making who's making a Pulsed Doppler Radar device to counter police radars and a new Flux Capacitor for his time machine but hey I'm doing something productive.
  15. I’m impressed....maybe during this global pandemic you can find a way to make something you can sell later that’s not $549 like 123 ignition. Making good of a bad situation at Bruce’s house. Most of America is watching Tiger King and putting on pounds while the Mad Scientist is building contraptions in his garage. If you can figure out of to make TP out of tree bark you’ll be the next Jeff Bezos. in all seriousness, nice job Bruce, keep pushing the envelope for the great good of Z owners.
  16. Well they are a little different. That one is to convert from points to electronic ignition because you would otherwise have no adjustment base. Yours is an advanced timing plate. I doubt there is a patent so you should be good to go. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Rebuild my primary distributor is complete. Came out pretty good, everything spins freely and gaps look even. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Here a video showing a good vacuum advance working installed on a distributor. https://youtu.be/T7i9noLdnSc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Here’s a video of a test of the distributor vacuum advance. You can see this a bad one, I’ll show a good one once it’s dry (just painted it).
  20. So I’ve made some good progress rebuilding this distributor. The Atlanticz rebuild instructions are fantastic. So I have carcasses and parts from 3.5 distributors (One I cannibalized in the yard because it was frozen to the front cover) I have 3 vacuum advance assemblies. I bench tested them and 2 of 3 were bad. The good one looks rough...very rusty but it holds vac pressure and the plunger moves and holds. I’m actually building 2 distributors, one a a primary and the other as a back up. I went online to hunt down a new vacuum advance. Of course they’re no longer in stock anywhere. The part number is 22301-p7900 or 7901. I did find some that look identical, Stanza and 200sx. Parts numbers are different, but part looks exactly the same, not sure if those would work, look at links below. first eBay link is titles 22301-p7901 but on the phone it has a different part number on the box 22301-D2100 https://www.ebay.com/p/1173306983 Another website says I can use a Standard Motor Product part VC351. See this link, at the bottom is talks about different Nissan Vaccum advances compatibility with Standard Brand. http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Late-model_Vacuum_Advance What do you guys think?
  21. Positives: - been getting 8 hrs of sleep a night - have time to exercise daily - saving lots of money - no robo calls Not obvious negatives: - internet is slow - kids are driving us crazy Started rebuilding my distributor yesterday, with some motherhood from Captain Obvious. I have enough good parts for 2, a primary (mostly new parts and a backup with salvaged old part). I’m hoping to get one finished today. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Cliff, I started feeling better this afternoon. I think I got some bad food when I was in Panama. I ate one meal in the hotel restaurant (only 18 people in entire hotel). I ordered grilled Sea Bass and started feeling bad the next day. I have allergies too. I’ve been sneezing pretty bad the past few days and there is yellow pollen all over our cars. I think the key is body temp, a dry cough, and body aches as some primary symptoms, not to mention the loss of taste and smell. Hopefully, you’ll feel better tomorrow. 23. Gents, I have friends on the inside that works on the Armed Services Committee. This came from the top. Moldy and Esper are just political hacks who want to keep their jobs. I also know Brett very well. He’s not stupid or unaware of proper protocols. We don’t let guys command nuclear Aircraft Carriers that don’t understand the Chain of Command. I’ve worked by Brett for over a year in the desk next to his. We’ve flow together, him in a Hornet me in a Harrier. I know this guy. We’ve smoked cigars and drank beers together. I can promise you this was done by him because the leadership above him wasn’t doing anything and he finally realized his men were at grave risk and fell on his sword to save them. He’s a true man of honor. You can support him by signing this petition. BTW, he just tested positive for COVID-19. https://www.change.org/p/usn-istandwithcaptcrozier-captcrozier-cvn71-reinstate-captain-crozier-as-commanding-officer?cs_tk=Aj7Q-dz5-fPTPx3BjF4AAXicyyvNyQEABF8BvBRuGaEZU5VbBOJfH1FFNJY%3D&utm_campaign=3a738dd5a7b04391b0d3a182df638f31&utm_content=initial_v0_0_1&utm_medium=email&utm_source=recruit_sign_digest&utm_term=cs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I guess 99 is still consider ~normal. They won’t bother testing you until your get over 100 I’m told. Next 6-8 hrs will shed light Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
