I’ll pay extra for deliveries in your Z.

Hey, I wanted to make a comment to the collective members of this forum. Sitting here trapped in my hotel in Panama....reading lots of post and questions from here and other Z forums I see a trend. The people that frequent this place tend to be very interested in helping others get these cars back where they belong....on the road to be enjoyed. Some other Z forums out there have some really harsh, condescending, self-serving members that quite frankly push people away. They don’t want to be bothered by people’s questions and admonish them for not spending hours researching a topic. It’s strikingly different in the people here. I honestly probably would have not taken on this endeavor if it hadn’t been the great people on here. The help I’ve gotten here can’t be more appreciated. I hope that I can pay it forward. I will continue to be a junkyard rat because its fun to do when I layover in various cities. A bad day in the yard is better than a good day at work. I will continue to help you all that can’t find parts you need. I’ll alway just charge you what it cost me to buy and deliver the part. My labor and risking life and limb in snake infested tall grass is free. Some if you have built up a nice beer fund. Not sure I’ll be able to afford ZCON with all this beer I’m in debt for. Thanks again [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Thanks ZH. This was my understanding as well. So, stuck here in my hotel with nothing to do but do research, read my book and watch TV. Social isolation sucks. So I think the later ZX transmission with the stock ZX differential is the route I’m going to go with. Of course I’ll look at the 300zx differentials with the slight chance the unicorn LSD is in this lot. There are at least six 300zx’s in there, So before I left for this work trip my refurbished injectors came back from Motor Man, they look really good, actually new. The only thing I don’t like it the clamps he used. I’ll upgrade the to stainless injector clamps.

So many great points brought up by Dave and ZH. There are so many factors and forces driving the way people react. The news organizations should be ashamed of themselves for stoking fear in people. I’m back in Panama, landed at 9am this morning and unfortunately I have only two English channels in my hotel CNN and Fox News. There is nothing similar in what they report. My company has advices all persons to remain in hotel which sucks because I had planned on taking the canal tour. Things are slowing to a down here too . Last weeks the roads were nuts today...not so much traffic. People stockpile because it’s the only way they can find comfort when faced with things they have no control over. In my opinion is always good to have food in the pantry, TP under the cabinet and generals supplies, Especially if you have a family to support. People buy ammo because they fear riots like happened in LA (Rodney King) or more recently in Baltimore. You can never underestimate what desperate people will do. Our modern society has a thin layer of civility separating us from chaos. We’ve created a system that is fragile. Global food supply chain, we depend on and so many thing to make sure our stores are stocked and fuel and electricity are available. We are only 9 meals away from total chaos in modern society. I have lots of ammo because shooting is a hobby and I’m a gun enthusiast. I also have them to protect my family. I conceal carry and have a federal firearms license and can carry on all commercial aircraft when traveling. It’s great because I never have to go through security lines. In times like these it’s important to help others, be a leader in your community and be that voice of reason around the sheep. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

There are a few reasons. 1. The Koreans have done elaborate testing far more that the Italians. When you test more the death rate declines, because you are confirm cases in heathy population that would otherwise not be counted. 2. I lived in Italy for 3 years. The National hospital system isn’t that great. I had to bring my own sheets, towels and other items when my daughter was born in an Italian hospital. They’re way below what you’d accept if admitted. 3. Italians are highly social people. They kiss on sides of face for greetings and are heavy smokers too. 4. Koreans are rule followers much like the Japanese. The Italian ate everything but rule followers. Getting an Italian to do anything they don’t want is difficult. It’s a cultural thing. This are the options you have to choose from. I called the guy and he said the computer shows different differentials for the 2 and 4 seater and both are R200. Could be an error.
-
Thanks Dave. This makes sense, Nissan married the 3.9 with the later 5 speed for a reason. No reason to reinvent the wheel. I forgot to ask. Is the Differential different between the 2 and 4 seater on the ZX. They are coming up differently when I’m searching for the part online.

Thanks Cliff, looking forward to the elbow bump followed by a tray of beers. I’m not sure how this thing will shake out but think it should settle over the summer, and come back with a vengeance in the fall much like the Spanish flu in 1918...unless we get a vaccine. Right now the only treatment that has been successful is a malaria drug called chloroquine. It is an ionphore that allows for increased intercellular zinc. Elevated Intercellular zinc interrupts RNA polymerase (RNAP), Covid-19 hijacks the RNAP and replicates itself. Here is some of the latest info, https://docs.google.com/document/d/e/2PACX-1vTi- g18ftNZUMRAj2SwRPodtscFio7bJ7GdNgbJAGbdfF67WuRJB3ZsidgpidB2eocFHAVjIL-7deJ7/pub BTW, the wife was happy to hear that I might be able to fund part of my Z addiction. She’s finally getting it.

Cliff, I’m gonna take care of you. Okay, I need to call the yard on Monday to get them to pull the tranny so I can grab after getting back from Panama, I told him to find the lowest mileage 280zx 81-83. So it sounds like a diff swap might be a good idea too. They have a bunch of 300zx’s too. So from my research the R200 on the 81-83 280zx has a diff ration of 3.90. My diff on my 77 is 3.545 and the 300zx is 3.70. So, as a street car what’s the ideal combination. Keeping my 3.545 differential probably isn’t getting the best bang out of the ZX tranny, so what’s the general consensus on the best combo? I’ve read both the 300zx and 280zx differentials require no mods for my 77. I’ve also read about the elusive unicorn LSD from a 300zx, unobtainable so not an option. I guess the 3.90 would get better 1st gear pull over the 3.70 but also higher RPM at cruise.

This was the what my local Walmart looked like today. Shameful people are hoarding stuff. Buy what you need for two-three weeks. Funny that the Corona beer was on sale. I grabbed some. There are idiots that think the beer has something to do with the virus. Darwin.....where are you when we need you. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, I’m on septic too. We’ve been in the house 5 yrs and I finally decided last summer might be a good to to pump it. The company said it looked good, except for the tree roots. We have 5 people but we use Charmin I think? The point is people over react. You should always have a supply of household staples like TP around. We live in a hurricane susceptible area so this is normal business. I always have TP, beer, water and 5.56 FMJs around just in case. For the 280Z people an extra ECU, fuel pump, fuse links and fuel pump relay are good ideas too. I should have an extra dizzy after tearing down three and the parts I’ve ordered. I’ll put that in the box with the stuff above. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yea, $250 and they pull it and put it in my SUV. Hub caps are a bonus. A set of 4 just sold on EBay for $2,100. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

This is ridiculous! Do people think your gonna be crapping more than normal as you wait this thing out watching reruns of Happy Days. I mean how much crapper paper do you really need. A 6 pack would last me a month. These idiots buying 50 rolls like they’ll have explosive diarrhea for 30 days in a Walking Dead episode This virus doesn’t blow your lower seal. We have a county full of complete morons. We have a collective national IQ that scares me more that this virus! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

$100 for 4 hubcaps or $250 for 4 hubcap and a ZX 5 speed transmission. Cliff gets a finder’s fee too!

I just called the JY, told him I’d buy the tranny if he gave me all 4 D hubcaps for free. He said yes! Might do it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/14-Datsun-240z-280z-Wheel-Covers-/264658315634 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sidebar on this rebuild. So at the JY yesterday with all the dead Z and ZX cars, I asked about the cost for one of the transmissions. The guy said $250 and I could pick any one I wanted. Seems like a good deal. The 280zx that recently arrived at the yard a few miles from my house wanted $500 for one and it was sold to a transmission repair shop almost a week after the car arrived at the yard. I wasn’t willing to pay $500 I don’t know the status of the 5 speed in my car because I just drove it around the block a few times, but I did recall accelerating that a serious whine was happening in 3rd gear I think, very high pitch squeal. I never investigated it. I’m not confident my mine is good and $250 for a ZX one seems reasonable. Worst cast is I can sell one of them later. I don’t want to have to hunt one down in a few months when I can do it now. The engine is almost done anyway. Do you think this is a good deal? How would you choose which one to grab? Lowest miles? Year? How do I know which year is best for street use? I know there was a open and closed ration....not sure exactly what that means but word is closed is the one people recommend on the inter web, How do I know before pulling it that it’s the right one.? Are they hard to rebuild if required?

ZH, I had to pull it apart. It’s in good shape but the breaker plate was barely moving for vacuum advance lower section. There was some rust in there between plates. I have a brand new breaker plate coming from Japan so I’ll have a good unit after. BTW, those D style hun caps are worth something. I saw at least two at the JY and I can probably get them for $10-$20 each. eBay has one with 9 bids at $350. Thanks Cliff. Beers for you too! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Somethings to note on this latest distributor. First it spins freely and without being gritty and the gaps across the stator are consistent. That wasn’t the case with my other ones which were locked up for the most part. The shaft of the latest one has a screw in it where my others do not ref pics below. I bet this one works as it but not sure if I should break it down, clean it, lubricant and use some of the new parts inbound. Forgot to mention it has a metal tip vs the plastic one on the other two I had. I think with these 3 and the parts I might be about to get two working units. We shall see. I did get a ZX distributor/. Picked the one that had the least rust. Post removal inspection makes me think it’s a reman but the parts I need looked good. The module doesn’t have any numbers so it been changed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
