Drum brake info and fluid question
I had a great track day yesterday. But I was missing one thing and it became apparent during the hard braking areas of the track. I couldn't stop so i decided to bleed the brakes in the paddock. I got everything out, miracle whip jar, the glass kind, 1mm wrench for the solo bleeders from russel(great solo bleeders btw). Then I looked for my brake fluid, DOH!!. I left it sitting in my shed. Nobody had any dot3 in the paddock which i expected. So I drove 40 rt to the nearest napa store. Got back, bled the brakes and everything was right with the world. I even stalked and passed a ferrari. Granted he was just poking along, but I passed him none the less. I know you're going to say why I didn't get it on camera. I wold have except my rechargable batteries aren't so rechargable when it real cold out. I really need to get it hard wired into the car.

New from Colorado
John must have had problems with the classifieds. That car is a great car. He also has a couple of roadsters, one undergoing a restoration and another 2k with a sr20dt or whatever the turbo 4 cylinders are. It was fast with just the original 2.0, but with the new motor it's insanely fast. The paint shines up good. He could pick them out real quick, but you would have to studying the paint to pick most of the blemishes. He's very thorough when selling items on ebay. If he had only put a reserve instead of the BIN, it could have gone a lot higher.

first thing to do before paint is to get the rest of the glass out. Especially if the windshield and hatch gaskets are original. What was the original color?

I've been trying ya picky bastard!! Yeah, clean 240's in your price range are hard to find now a days. But we did find one just out of your set price. It does have some nice goodies on it that you might upgrade a total stock 240z with. I'll be away from the computer all day tomorrow while i have fun at the track. :-D www.highplainsraceway.com

Drum brake info and fluid question
I don't see why people want to use anything other than dot 3 on a street driven car. Now if you were to take it to the track a few times a month then yes. I still use dot3 and take my car to the track at least twice a year. You just want to make sure you have clean fluid before track events. But then i don't follow that rule either. I'll have to try and take my to the limit tomorrow at the track.

Batter Tender Questions
ok, bear with me here. Watch nat'l lampoons christmas vacation when Clark was trying to get the lights to light up. Could the battery tender be hooked up to the garage lights? Yeah, I know I don't have enough to do today.

My 260Z brake rebuild
Of the two earlier emails, neither has been returned. The first one in december I didn't have my snail mail listed. The one on the 15th this month had it, but still no email reply. Hopefully the one I sent yesterday will get some kind of response. I'm not in a big hurry for them, just as long as they show up. If they don't I will go back to the store and have them order two new kits and take what I need from them and let them deal with dorman. I'm patient. Thanks for the updates.

My 260Z brake rebuild
OK, I went ahead and wrote my own email and only relied on the part numbers to cut and paste. The last email i sent them with my street addy was on the 15th. So maybe 10 days wasn't enough time to have him look into the problem. Nothing in the mail today.

Rear Main cap side seals
I had the book handy so I looked it up. Before i couldn't recall where the grove was, block or cap. It's been 7 yrs since i refreshed the engine in the 240. Thinking about it, I thought the gasket set had instructions? But the books are great for following when working on our cars. All books are a must have, from the FSM to the lowly haynes.

Rear Main cap side seals
The "lips" of the seal goes toward the block, the nails go on the cap side with the beveled edge toward the seal. The nail is what pushes the seal into place against the block.

Highest selling year, maybe, but the 240z ran from 70-73 and the 280z from 75-78, both 4 year runs compared to only one for the 260. There was a 260 on craigs list as well. ok, ok, This is the north american market numbers.

Keep your options open for other cars like the 280z. There have been a few popping up on CL pretty cheap. I still have the ad from cl on the 280z 2+2 for $500, not sure if it's sold yet.

lock repair/refurbish
worked as a locksmith during high school, but after breaking a few picks I decided it wasn't for me. I still like to dabble in it every now and then. I still have my pick set, at least the picks that I haven't broken. :-D

What is rude behavior on a thread?

lock repair/refurbish
There are still wafer kits out there. But he was wondering about the spring loaded dust shield. Warren aka customlock used to fix them, but not sure if he still does.

We met while bolting tires together at our new track. There are a couple of candidates on craigslist, search "datsun" There are a couple of projects if you want to take them on. There was also a 280z for $500 that had a clutch "cable" that went out. If interested I can send the info since it isn't on CL anymore, you can call if it's still available. As for the car that's discussed here, I think you can do better, jmo. $850 for a real project on CL. The ad should still be up on cl. There is another 240 on cl for about $1K, both projects. It just depends how far you want to go.

Sway bar bushing grease ?
ok, I guess i didn't read that right. Like pop s z said, did you put silicone grease where the sway bar goes through? If not then the bushing won't really last as long as if there were grease there. Are these poly bushings or rubber if poly, did you use the silicone grease that came with them?
-
Sway bar bushing grease ?
You'll be fine, if anything the grease in the bracket will make it fit easier.

change clutch master as well, lube and change gear oil before moving it around. How were the brake lines, wheel cylinders and calipers?

Jumping in with 2
About the gas tank, drop it and clean it out. My 240 sat for 14 yrs before I picked it up and the tank had a lot of varnish in it which clogged up the filters.

Bad A$$ 72' 240 Drag Car
While I haven't taken the tail lights apart I wondered if someone could make a metal piece to replace it. It wouldn't look original but better than peeling plastic chrome. Someone can plate the plastic with "chrome" but not sure who it is. edit-- google search-- chrome plastic plating
