  1. zbane, accepted. If I didn't know exactly what the part was and where it was on the car I never would have posted. I know there are sutble differences throughout the range of z cars and will never know them all. If I don't recognize something, I may think to myself about where it might go, and may ask for others opinions, but I don't think I would definitely say it did or did not have it. it's a wrap! ;-)
  2. Just because the fsm doesn't have it doesn't mean it isn't there. There is a clamp that holds it to the inlet you mentioned, it is not screwed into the housing. Drawing the air right next to the engine defeats the purpose of the cooling fan. That is why they used the above duct to get the air flow away the heat of the block.
  3. research it again zbane. The part gnose is the one that draws the air from UNDER the car.
  4. came from the 280zx with the injector fan. Big end attached to the fan, the other end is at the bottom drawing the ait from under the car.
  5. I'm sure if they are working now, or at least working when you put it on jacks, they will still be worth rebuilding.
  6. I don't know if i even have them, I might have seen one of them once. I really wish I would have saved all the bits to rebuild,, brake master, clutch master, slave cylinder etc.
  7. The car sat 14 years and I didn't want to take a chance so I bought new. Oddly, the calipers are just as old and I didn't bother with those at all, just new hoses all the way around. But hey, they have held up for 6 yrs with numerous track days and 2400 mile RT vacation. I'm sure the others are rebuildable. I have them someplace in my shed., at least I think I do.
  8. Thanks for researching that. I will probably go back to advance and have them order another set on their dime. Then have them look it up to see that the kits are incomplete compared to the dorman site. If advance doesn't want to do that, then I will go the route you just did. BTW, those hoses are sluts I tell you, sluts! To hell with form, I just pasted what you wrote and wrote another one of my own. I would get the msa hoses, but the ones I have are new and will keep them until the rear cylinders are bad, but they are also new and expensive.
  9. That part is the pilot bushing for the input shaft of the transmission. It should come with the clutch kit. The rear main seal goes around the outer diameter of the crank shaft end.
  10. I haven't torn into them yet. I have another set I will rebuild that are already off the car, but the seals on them seem to be ok, but will rebuild them anyway.
  11. I ordered them last friday, got them in saturday. The only reason I ordered them was because of you, plus i guess 36 yr old calipers might need to be rebuilt before going out on the track, especially since the dust seals are non existent. I only opened one package and will probably take them back to the store and show them I need one more oring. Even though the oring is a square cut they might have something that will work.
  12. advance auto parts uses the same kit.
  13. Have to remember to K.I.S.S., I'm sure you know what that means. Everyone likes to jump to the most expensive conclusion while trouble shooting, even those giving the advice. Did you lightly lube the bushing and the input shaft? Put the tranny in gear, and while handling the tranny, rotate the output shaft. This should get the splines to line up. What did you use for the shifter bushings? You can also use door hinge bushing in the Help section of the auto store. #38377(IIRC) is one number that will work, the other has an assortment of 4 sets of which 2 will work.
  14. It's probably not the dowl pin, like all transmissions it takes a bit of wrangling to get in. Do yourself a favor, get a few longer bolts that will fit in the block holes and cut the heads off, use these as guide pins when fitting the transmission. They will line it up close enough and hold the weight of the tranny while you're trying to line up the input shaft. Then take out the guide bolts out by hand while replacing them with the regular bolts.
  15. There are quite a few people in your area. berthoud, ft collins, mead. You have a pm. Oh, and golden really isn't far to check out a car.
  16. refreshed- new paint and body work along with normal maintenance items like springs, struts and bushings. restored- complete disassembly, complete body restoration, replating every nut and bolt. restored improved- all the creature comforts you can't live without along with performance enhancers(engine, suspension, etc)
  17. after working like a dog looks like he's gone fishing.
  18. ujoints don't need to be loose. Once you have the driveshaft and or half shafts off, check for smooth operation in all axis.
  19. "vibrates in 3rd and 4th" Have you checked the ujoints in the driveshaft and the halfshafts?
  20. The thing that hands the front control arms are the bushings.
  21. control arm or strut housing? The control arm is non handed, the strut housing is handed.
  22. doesn't get humor ^^^^ The handles are listed the same way, but are the same, same with the rear lower control arms, they just flip them. What happened to the old one?
