  1. The time is near for the green flag. All the corner bunkers are wrapped with tires and conveyor belt. There are less than 100 tires left out of 16K. The conveyor belt was used to wrap around 16 corner stations. 3/4" belt 3' wide that weighs 20 lbs per linear foot. The shortest belt was 25' long and the longest was 66'(1320 lbs). We had about 7-10 people working to wrap the corner stations. We did 8 stations on Saturday and 5 yesterday. The other 3 were done earlier. Channel locks and vice grips were our friends.
  2. The starter stand is in place.
  3. This last Sunday there were a few cars and motorcycles out on the track for at speed apex curbing placement. Here's the MRA(motorcycle) prez first impressions. http://forums.mra-racing.org/viewtopic.php?t=8043 Out of 16k tires we have less than 100 left to bundle and place.
  4. Work is continuing at the track. Tire walls are getting put together and placed. The last of the tires were delivered last friday, that makes 16k tires. 12k tires are already bundled. www.highplainsraceway.com www.zccc.org
  5. Are you looking for a shift lever to replace the T shifter? If so get one from a 2nd gen maxima FWD. You will have to cut it down then drill and tap the shift rod to fasten it. I have one in my zxt with the 4 spd auto, which also has the OD switch in the handle.
  6. Canada must have rubbed off on her, eh?
  7. The latest video with a wide angle camera on the racing line.
  8. Keep in mind you will have your chance to drive on it at a future national z convention. Or sooner at a regional z gathering we are having next year. It is the zccc turn for a regional next year, so we have to plan it around the track dates we have at HPR. In case you don't go to the national convention next year and need to take time off, keep us in mind. So far I'm not sure which of the two preliminary dates we are going to use for the regional. It looked like the motorcycle club(MRA) had a great time out there. The tires are starting to come in and when the hardware gets in we'll have tire bolting parties for all the tire walls needed. Until then we have to sort and stack the several different sizes together.
  9. First unsanctioned race at HPR. scroll for pics. http://forums.mra-racing.org/viewtopic.php?t=7554
  10. According to the '02 program I have there are about 2 conventions in dispute. '97 was York, PA '98 was Albuquerque, NM
  11. New ariel pics have been posted and here is a new speeded up video of a full lap. follow the link for the photo link. www.highplainsraceway.com
  12. It still showed '96 as aspen, but is ok now.
  13. Denver in '96, not aspen. The final decision for national z conventions is up to the ZCCA, but it is up to the individual club to put on a presentation before the board for a vote. Needless to say it is a lot of hard work from volunteers to even get to that point. Maybe the portland and seattle clubs can get together to put on a convention. There are a number of conventions that had multiple clubs putting one on.
  14. The first national convention in '88 was held in Aspen, Colorado. Then we held another one in Denver and had the track event at the old stapleton runways, if you say it was '98 I will believe you. As far as timing of the events, I think it has more to do with weather and time of the season. Leaves changing colors, too hot, mild weather etc. Nobody wants it too hot or rainy. '01 was in ontario, check triad z club for details.
  15. Sounds like everyone had a great time. I have been to two conventions. '02 in San Antonio and '04 in Long Beach. Hopefully San Antonio will have access to a road course next year. Autox is great if you like dodging cones(my car ate them up) ;-) Long Beach was nice with Willow Springs, but for the money, streets of willow would have been a lot more fun. Overall I still had a nice time at both conventions and will look forward to when Colorado hosts their 3rd national convention. I know ZCCA has been asking us to host another. We will, especially when our new road course opens. shameless plug www.highplainsraceway.com
  16. The photo link for the HPR site has been updated with a new ariel pic. http://eclipse.host-care.com/~teamterr/hpr/ top layer is down around the track. The oaddock and entry road are next.
  17. First layer of black top courtesy of 240zman (Daniel)
  18. Reliable sources say that the west loop has it's first layer of pavement, Sunday the north loop should have its first layer as well. The web site has updated pic with a couple from the air showing the track layout. www.highplainsraceway.com
  19. Agree, they will do something to slow everyone down. I was disappointed at willow springs. The first two run groups had pace cars. I should have just gone over to the streets and had a lot more fun. The last time colorado held a national event in '96, '98(?), we used the runways from the old airport. Although I wasn't a z owner back then I don't think they changed the way they ran the event. Our old track(2nd creek raceway) was only 1.7 miles and very tight course. Our new track( www.highplainsraceway.com ) will be 2.5 miles with a couple of long straights while still having slow and technical portions. Even with 4 run groups we still have plenty of track time. 2 20 min sessions and 3 15 min sessions. That is plenty for people who aren't racers but like to drive their car to it's ability without getting in trouble with the law.
  20. Different clubs will have different rules. For example at the nat'l z convention in Long Beach in '04 they had 3 classes IIRC. The track event was at willow springs. 2 classes were follow the leader each at different speeds, no passing allowed at all. The 3rd had limited passing and only with a point by. Needless to say that class had a stern talking to between sessions because of free for all passing. The z car club of colorado has 2-3 track events a year. We have 4 classes of different ability. You enter the class that best describes your ability. A-experienced B- C- D-novice We only allowed passing in all levels on one straight and only with point by. Even the most experienced level. Our track events are not races. The reason for our classes is not so much wheel to wheel racing as knowing when to get out of the other's way to allow them to pass without causing any contact. Each track also has their own rules regarding open test and tune. I don't have any experience when it comes to mid ohio and their rules. As far as speeds etc, just drive within your ability and keep your car under control. If you are too reckless you will eventually talk to the track steward to have a little talk.
  21. Not insensitive, just thought I would lighten the mood a little and we are all glad no one got hurt.

  23. Give the man some time! geesh! ;-) Yeah any pics yet? We are all glutton for punishment. glad no serious injuries and we hope you put that turn with a warning on the map for the drive. Did someone mention a track? www.highplainsraceway.com A true grass roots effort from 12 amateur car clubs in Colorado. Groundbreaking was aug 15th. We hope to have a full season in '09. Yes the Z car club of Colorado is one of the 12 track OWNERS!!.
  24. I think thats kinda a personal question.
  25. ground breaking took place today. It was raining all day so I didn't take too many pics because it was too crowded. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08002.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08003.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08004.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08005.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08006.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08007.jpg http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/High%20Plains%20Raceway/groundbreaking8-15-08001.jpg
