  1. confirmed, ground breaking is set for this Friday the 15th at 1pm. the web site has been updated. www.highplainsraceway.com
  2. The HPR web site has yet to be updated, but the contracts are signed and money is in place so ground breaking is set to take place in the next week!!!
  3. another cops quote--- by a homeless bum caught in a vice sting--- I knew it was too good to be true when she had all her teeth.
  4. That's normal for the tokicos. The progressives go with the close coils to the top. Although I'm not sure if it would make a difference. The fronts are progressive and the rear are linear. The progressives are used as your'e going over small bumps to soften the ride.
  5. I definitely prefer the late 5 spd. The big difference is 2nd to 3rd. While on the track I could redline the tach in 2nd and when I shifted to 3rd there was a big drop in rpm almost to the point of chugging. I went from a 4 spd to the late 5 spd. It depends how much spirited driving you are going to do.
  6. Don't forget about the heater control wires. The dash is cake compared to those. But overall it really isn't too bad. I have swapped out dashes in both the 240z and 280zx.
  7. House mover needed to pick up and move kenz240z garage with it's contents to me, with a stop over around the corner to pick up a 4 post lift and bridgeport from ncol. Then bring them down to broomfield. ;-) Kenz240z, Pop's Z, ncol and I got together saturday to change oil and crack open a few transmissions. One 4 speed was junk and Ken will be able to use it as a core for the 5 spd. The late 5 spd is great on the inside, but the tail housing has a bad bushing which scored the driveshaft yoke. I'm not sure if a speedy sleeve will work on the driveshaft with a new bushing or not. The early 5 spd looks ok except for when a previous owner dropped the tail and broke the end of the tail shaft. A new tail shaft for the early 5 spd will make that one usable. As we found out the 4 spd tail shaft won't work. Ken, thanks again for the use of the lift. Glen(ncol) it was good to finally meet you. Mike, thanks for letting me drive your car, it let me know what I was missing with a 2.4 ingine in a 240.
  8. If you have an actual Nissan factory service manual, then it will have the procedure to r&r the dash.
  9. The z31 4 spd auto is electronic, the maxima trannies are the dumb ones which can be used for the swap in the 280zx. If you're looking for a complete bolt on no mods required for anything then you will never find it. The maxima OD auto going into a 280zx will require some fabrication, brackets for the new tranny mount, cutting of the old tunnel mounts, new exhaust, minor wiring. Lasst but not least, you will want to rebuild the tranny before putting it in so you know you have a good transmission.
  10. lay the harness around the injectors, that should tell you where they go.
  11. going by the link posted above, tell us what you know.
  12. Rob, since i didn't know who that was in your avatar, I am glad you both took it as a compliment. It's great when we have people that understands what a sense of humor is. Mitchka, Sorry for your loss. And it was very honest in your opinion about your cousin and the bike he was riding. You could have very easily put it all on the driver, but you don't know exactly what the driver saw of a motorcycle moving at 100mph or more coming towards them. Unfortunately he paid the ultimate price.
  13. If it is like this, then the hinge bushings are the most economical way to replace if you have a bench vise. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/data/500/medium/4_spd.jpg If any filing needs to be done it might need to be dome on the flats after the bushings are pressed in to fit between the ears. Using the bench vise you can press them in square one bushing at a time, then use the vise to again press the pin through the bushings, this will form the bushings to the pin for an exact fit. It might be a little tight at first but twisting it back and forth will free it up easily. I have used my shifter on the track and put it through it's paces for over 6 yrs and have not had a problem. It's still as tight and no wear. help me part # 38377 for the pair of bushings. There is another bushing variety pack that has 4 sets of different bushings, one set maybe two will work, not sure of the part number on that, but same section in "help me". Either set is less than $5.
  14. Make sure you know which tranny you have, does it have linkage exposed or does the shifter go into the tranny? The door hinge bushings work for the later transmissions that have the lever going into the tranny.
  15. I thought it was because of you avatar. 8-) thoughts go out to the passenger and families of both.
  16. The stripes are on the wrong side!! Need pics of the engine bay too.
  17. I passed it along to the datsun group local to the area. Just starting to get a small group together consisting of roadsters, z's and 510's. I probably won't make it but I may surprise. Let me know any juicy rumors you hear about the management of PMI. I know it won't close, but a lot of people are uninformed about the history of the track facility down there. http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=93480
  18. The zxt I use for the longer trips. On the way back from Seattle I took 101 south from seattle following the coast along washington and oregon, then after entering CA, I moved over the PCH. The 240, would have to put A/C and tunes. Going through nevada and utah wasn't too fun during June. But it was still a lot of fun. Did I mention I rebuilt(refreshed) the 2.8 engine that was in the 240? First engine I had ever completely disassembled and put back together. I still take it out to the track when I'm able. Hopefully our new track will be ready for wheels next spring. The 240 had sat for 14 yrs before I got a hold of it. After I rebuilt the engine I took it out to our local track. It still had the 14 yr old brake pads and 30 year old struts and springs. A year after that I replaced all the bushings and springs. The springs and struts I used tokico illumina package. www.highplainsraceway.com
  19. Why is it people are so apprehensive on taking their cars on long drives? I wouldn't hesitate to drive either one of my z's cross country. The zxt has been to seattle and back twice avging over 4200 miles round trip. The 240z went to long beach and back with a stop to go on the willow springs track, although it wasn't racing, but still fun. Glad you had fun and will be able to take it to national z conventions. This year's will be in Cleveland with the track day at mid ohio.
  20. The only shift levers I have are the 4 spd varities. The early zx shift levers had the same pivot bushing area but as you know they are too short for the s30. If you can find the early zx shifter and mate the bottom portion to the top of the 4 spd, would be better. But in a pinch making the relief cuts/grinds on the 4 spd will work just as well. It's been getting tough to find the early 5 spds in the s30 that has the correct shift lever.
  21. shift rod cut out---It's the rod that the end of the shift lever goes into. I think jmortensen made some cuts on his when I pointed out the marks the shift rod cut out made. He didn't have to cut too deep, just enough the clear where the lever goes into the tranny. BTW, the pic that shows the marks on the lever are in my hybridz album. Yeah, it's much easier with the transmission is out to drill for the short throw mod.
  22. Check my pic gallery on here and hybridz. You can either make a couple of relief cuts on the 4 spd shifter to allow it to clear the shift rod cut out, or you can make a short throw mod by drilling the ears on the tranny for a higher lever pivot, then cut, drill, tap and put install a stud to lengthen the shifter pivot to match the hole you drilled in the ears. One of the comparison pics shows the mark the shift rod cut out makes on the lever. The 4 spd lever measures 1 15/16" from bottom of lever to centerline of pivot hole. The 5 spd levers measure 1 11/16" The so called "truck shifter mod" has the same measurement as the 4 spd lever. The 280zx levers with the big plastic bushing can be used for either 4 spd or 5 spd transmissions simply by reversing the bushing.
