Pueblo vintage race
I passed it along to the datsun group local to the area. Just starting to get a small group together consisting of roadsters, z's and 510's. I probably won't make it but I may surprise. Let me know any juicy rumors you hear about the management of PMI. I know it won't close, but a lot of people are uninformed about the history of the track facility down there. http://www.9news.com/rss/article.aspx?storyid=93480

Almost 500 miles on a 2-day roadtrip through the Catskills!
The zxt I use for the longer trips. On the way back from Seattle I took 101 south from seattle following the coast along washington and oregon, then after entering CA, I moved over the PCH. The 240, would have to put A/C and tunes. Going through nevada and utah wasn't too fun during June. But it was still a lot of fun. Did I mention I rebuilt(refreshed) the 2.8 engine that was in the 240? First engine I had ever completely disassembled and put back together. I still take it out to the track when I'm able. Hopefully our new track will be ready for wheels next spring. The 240 had sat for 14 yrs before I got a hold of it. After I rebuilt the engine I took it out to our local track. It still had the 14 yr old brake pads and 30 year old struts and springs. A year after that I replaced all the bushings and springs. The springs and struts I used tokico illumina package. www.highplainsraceway.com

Almost 500 miles on a 2-day roadtrip through the Catskills!
Why is it people are so apprehensive on taking their cars on long drives? I wouldn't hesitate to drive either one of my z's cross country. The zxt has been to seattle and back twice avging over 4200 miles round trip. The 240z went to long beach and back with a stop to go on the willow springs track, although it wasn't racing, but still fun. Glad you had fun and will be able to take it to national z conventions. This year's will be in Cleveland with the track day at mid ohio.

Shifter / Shift lever issue w/'83 N/A ZX 5-speed in '73 240Z
The only shift levers I have are the 4 spd varities. The early zx shift levers had the same pivot bushing area but as you know they are too short for the s30. If you can find the early zx shifter and mate the bottom portion to the top of the 4 spd, would be better. But in a pinch making the relief cuts/grinds on the 4 spd will work just as well. It's been getting tough to find the early 5 spds in the s30 that has the correct shift lever.

Shifter / Shift lever issue w/'83 N/A ZX 5-speed in '73 240Z
shift rod cut out---It's the rod that the end of the shift lever goes into. I think jmortensen made some cuts on his when I pointed out the marks the shift rod cut out made. He didn't have to cut too deep, just enough the clear where the lever goes into the tranny. BTW, the pic that shows the marks on the lever are in my hybridz album. Yeah, it's much easier with the transmission is out to drill for the short throw mod.

Shifter / Shift lever issue w/'83 N/A ZX 5-speed in '73 240Z
Check my pic gallery on here and hybridz. You can either make a couple of relief cuts on the 4 spd shifter to allow it to clear the shift rod cut out, or you can make a short throw mod by drilling the ears on the tranny for a higher lever pivot, then cut, drill, tap and put install a stud to lengthen the shifter pivot to match the hole you drilled in the ears. One of the comparison pics shows the mark the shift rod cut out makes on the lever. The 4 spd lever measures 1 15/16" from bottom of lever to centerline of pivot hole. The 5 spd levers measure 1 11/16" The so called "truck shifter mod" has the same measurement as the 4 spd lever. The 280zx levers with the big plastic bushing can be used for either 4 spd or 5 spd transmissions simply by reversing the bushing.

Disassembly of Tail Lights / Adhesive Question
Bob, Glad the puller is still doing it's job. I have seen butyl get rock hard, but it's more of a hard shell from the dirt it developes to protect the rest of the material underneith. Either way it's good to know that taking your time and using hot water makes it a bit easier to disassemble the old taillights. When I was sent out a new taillight for my altima, along with the lense they sent a small roll of butyl to seal it. Since it was a fairly new car at the time, it didn't take much to pry off the old lense.

you never said how old he was. :-P There are a lot of stories out there from people who have bought cars on the west coast and driving them back. coast to coast by 2400cc on zcar(search author number, all dates, all forums then click on his last page then go forward from there. Someone on hybridz picked up a 510 wagon in utah and drove it back to the east coast. I forget his name. amc_oldsarg bought a 280z in oregon and drove it back to texas a little less than a year ago. All very entertaining stories.

from your past postings you were looking for a project car for you and your son. What could be better than both of you flying out and driving it back? search for 2400cc on zcar.com and see what he did with his son. coast to coast in a 240.

Disassembly of Tail Lights / Adhesive Question
I always thought it was butyl holding the lenses on. They still used it on a '97 altima rear taillight.

Transmission Swap_what can I use?
You may have to notch the 4 spd spdo carrier to match the retainer to use in the 5 spd. Or you could swap out the gear from one carrier to the other.

can you take a pic of your control arm?- colorado tornado
Northern colorado got hit by a tornado this afternoon. I'm pretty sure it missed most of the nor col z guys. Pop's Z(mike), kenz240z, ncolz(glen). I'm not sure who else is in the area, hopefully they can chime in. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/22/colorado.tornado.video/index.html#cnnSTCVideo http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/weather/2008/05/22/von.co.funnel.cloud.kusa?iref=mpvideosview http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344391- ZDayZ 2008, The Tail of the Dragon ravages two 350Z's
I saw pics of a z32 and a 350z get together. Looked like one spun out in front of the other and they collided.- Getting frustrated
Check your 4 spd thread. Carl put up an ebay link for a nice looking car. The only bad thing I see is the damage to the rear valance, but considering it's rust free, that is minor.- ease or difficulty of suspension bushings upgrade?
You may be right after checking out the pics of the ES kit online. Take either your rear crossmember or the front differential crossmember and see if they will fit when the bushings are together like you show in the pics.- ease or difficulty of suspension bushings upgrade?
Are those one piece or 2 piece bushings? IIRC, they are one piece. I don't remember having to gind the sleeve down at all.- Clutch Recommendations - 280ZX 5 speed
Mike, if you have time you could try grinding down the ears where the lever goes to make it fit. The tranny Dave had probably had the medium length ears, the msa short throw shifter is made for the 4 spd. We'll be doing this mod on Tim's donor tranny. Pics of the short throw mod are in my pic gallery. 4 spd- short ears early 5 spd-- medium length ears late 5 spd-- taller ears enabling to drill for pivot approx 1" higher. - Outer control arm bushings needed
