No need to wait until you get a z to attend any of the meetings. Any one is welcome even if you own a mustang. ;-) There might be a z or 2 for sale if you let them know you're looking for one. For the right car you shouldn't have to think twice about hopping on a plane and going to get it or even to look at it if the seller is truthfull. And with the endorsment carl gave the owner of the car, it definitely has merit. There is a thread on hybridz about a guy that flew from the east coast to Utah to pick up a 510 wagon and drove it back.

I used "240z" in search when I found that one. Check www.zccc.org the local z club web site. The Odometer is the monthly newsletter. We have meetings the first wednesday of every month at Brooklyns near the stadium.

That's why they listed the vin number and went from $2200 to $2500. But since he hasn't had any takers it has been slowly dropping in price.

It's now down to $1500. Maybe they will take $750 for it soon.
  5. Thanks arne. The reason I am interested in the measurment for the early driveshaft is for people who are looking into the 240sx tranny swap. They have to cut their driveshaft down for the new tranny to work. I just didn't know what the exact difference was on the earlier driveshafts. Marty, does it clunk with normal driving or every time you engage the clutch? Maybe if you have a good friend with an exhaust shop will let you use his lift so you can check to see where it's making the clunk. A pit would work better.
  6. Might be the dust shield on the driveshaft not fitting correctly over the end of the transmission? How much space was there between the driveshaft flange and the diffy flange when the driveshaft was all the way in the tranny? Unless you're going to drop the driveshaft don't bother measuring it. The measurement I am looking for is the over all length including to the end of the slip yoke the early driveshaft.
  7. What does your driveshaft measure over all very end to very end(slip yoke, diffy flange)? On an s30 my '73 240 measures 30". Do you have the later driveshaft or the earlier one when the diffy was forward? Did you move the diffy back like on later s30's? Anyone have a measurement of the driveshaft on a 280zx 2 seater end to end? And the early driveshaft?
  8. After it stalls, check the plugs right away. Check for gas. The floats may be sticking and fouling out the plugs when it's just idling.

No membership needed. Come on out and introduce yourself. We have meetings on the first wednesday of every month at brooklyns near the stadium. The track day will be a great way to meet the members of the colorado z community. Check craigslist for possible candidates for a project. There is a '73 that is in peices for $750 in Arvada. Not sure if that would be the type of project you might be interested in. Search for "datsun" on craigslist and that is one that will show.

The z car club of colorado is having their last track day of the year at the state patrol track in Golden this Saturday Oct 7th. Participate or spectate. If you don't want to drive you can always ask someone for a ride. Long pants, long sleeve shirt and closed toed shoes. If you don't have a helmet snell 1995 or newer, someone might let you use theirs. Details on the zccc web side in the odometer. www.zccc.org The may or June Odometer should have directions to the track.

Sounds like the wrong door hinge bushings. After the bushings are pressed in the pin should not go in. Use the vise again to press the pin through the bushings so the pin will form the bushings. The bushings will loosen up just enough to move freely without binding. I am very pleased with the hinge bushings. They cost less than $5 at your local parts store in the help section. There is also a selection of bushings that include the chrysler bushings and another set that might work, so you get 2 sets of bushings for another shifter.

What about it didn't work out great for you? If installed properly and with the correct shifter for the transmission( 4 spd or 5 spd) Then you will never have to replace them again. Instead of a round file to file inside the bushing, use the vise and press the pin through, letting the bushing form around the pin. Use a flat file to crefully file down the sides till it just fits between the ears.
  13. I was wondering how he pulled it apart and lost all the oil. Maybe I didn't look at the illuminas close enough but I don't think you could pull them apart like he seems he did. That's why I would like to see pics of what they look like.
  14. Daniel, the 280zx rear struts are not cartidges. It's all one piece then you put the spring on.

Don't forget to replace all the rubber hoses. brake lines, fuel, fuel expansion tank hoses. su round tops came stock. Very simple carbs to rebuild and adjust. Get the ztherapy.com video. For other tips search google for su carbs and you will get plenty of research materials and tips.
  16. Do you have a pic of what you did?

Thanks for going out there and checking it out for those who might be interested in it.

Keep in mind there are ebay sellers out there that sell shortened shifters and tout them as short throw shifters. A true short throw shifter has a longer pivot below the pin. When they cut a couple inches off the top of the shifter it is only a short shifter. Check my gallery for pics and mods to the late 5 spd transmission for a short throw shifter. Unless you're going to take the car raciong on a road course then the stock shifter is fine.

You have to swap the spdo cog from the carrier out of your old transmission to the spdo cog carrier of the automatic. Unless you have a 3.7 rearend already.

Here is a pic of the ever elusive lonetreesteve's nicely done 240z. credit to John Scott on hybridz. Who also has a very nice v8 conversion. Once I see more pics in one place I will post the url.

cool, let us know. Thanks. Not that I would want to buy it, but there might be someone else interested.

Yeah, I know you like the stock wheels and low profile tires, I was just trying to talk you into how nice a set of 15" swastikas with 60 series would look on your car. ;-) Maybe it was john scott from hybridz that was taking other pics.

The house with the dark roof between the 2 light brown roofs. The car is on the north side of the house. Yes, on the right.

Maybe not when she has owned it, but from the pics I still can't make out the side marker lights or cut outs. In case you do decide to check it out, it's under the green tarp in this pic. http://www.google.com/maphp?hl=en&q=&ie=UTF8&z=19&ll=39.588586,-105.107966&spn=0.00094,0.001808&t=h&om=1

I do what I can to rub it in,,,, wait that doesn't sound right talking man to man. I'm sure there will be other events to make it to, just not as fun as the track days. If they get the up to date Odometer on line it will have the date, times and directions for the track day. Steve's car looks great, although it looks like he has 13" wheels on it. I think he has 60 series 14".
