Yet Another Z In My Posession Now...This Is Getting Out Of Control!
The hitch that our club member has, designed it. Looking at the hitch on the original post it looks like it's only bolted to the rear valance and maybe the top of the bumper. I saw one like it at the junk yard, only there wasn't a bar that went underneath. I hope to make one for my 240 so if need be I can either tow the club trailer or a small trailer for picking up parts.

HLS30-OOO13 Has Been Found!
He's reading this you know. ;-) There are a lot of definitions of a barn find, this is only one of them. The traditional when someone finds a collectable car and gets it for a measly sum and drives off with it. We all wish we could be that lucky. In this case, he drove it had fun and then put it in storage already knowing the significance of a low vin number and preserving it. He did that not only with 13, but also 171.

Strange Heating issue
It's not like modern cars, when it says vent, it's exactly that a vent. It doesn't pass through the heater core.

Question about pre-buy inspection for a z-car
Don't really know anything about specific shops in the area, but about the best thing to check is for a local z club, they may have members that can check it out for you, or go with you if the car is local. When looking at the older cars, the main thing I look at is the overall condition of the whole body and undercarriage. Mechanicals are the least of my worry. This advice is moot if you're looking for a "numbers" matching or completely original car that has been restored and you would want everything to be in tip top shape. For example on my '73, it sat for 14 yrs and the only thing I checked was the condition of the body, it checked out and I was out the door with a very nice condition '73 for $500 not running.

Who am I?
zbane, accepted. If I didn't know exactly what the part was and where it was on the car I never would have posted. I know there are sutble differences throughout the range of z cars and will never know them all. If I don't recognize something, I may think to myself about where it might go, and may ask for others opinions, but I don't think I would definitely say it did or did not have it. it's a wrap! ;-)

Who am I?
Just because the fsm doesn't have it doesn't mean it isn't there. There is a clamp that holds it to the inlet you mentioned, it is not screwed into the housing. Drawing the air right next to the engine defeats the purpose of the cooling fan. That is why they used the above duct to get the air flow away the heat of the block.
-
Who am I?
research it again zbane. The part gnose is the one that draws the air from UNDER the car.

Who am I?
came from the 280zx with the injector fan. Big end attached to the fan, the other end is at the bottom drawing the ait from under the car.

My 260Z brake rebuild
I'm sure if they are working now, or at least working when you put it on jacks, they will still be worth rebuilding.

My 260Z brake rebuild
I don't know if i even have them, I might have seen one of them once. I really wish I would have saved all the bits to rebuild,, brake master, clutch master, slave cylinder etc.

My 260Z brake rebuild
The car sat 14 years and I didn't want to take a chance so I bought new. Oddly, the calipers are just as old and I didn't bother with those at all, just new hoses all the way around. But hey, they have held up for 6 yrs with numerous track days and 2400 mile RT vacation. I'm sure the others are rebuildable. I have them someplace in my shed., at least I think I do.

My 260Z brake rebuild
Thanks for researching that. I will probably go back to advance and have them order another set on their dime. Then have them look it up to see that the kits are incomplete compared to the dorman site. If advance doesn't want to do that, then I will go the route you just did. BTW, those hoses are sluts I tell you, sluts! To hell with form, I just pasted what you wrote and wrote another one of my own. I would get the msa hoses, but the ones I have are new and will keep them until the rear cylinders are bad, but they are also new and expensive.

Jumping in with 2
That part is the pilot bushing for the input shaft of the transmission. It should come with the clutch kit. The rear main seal goes around the outer diameter of the crank shaft end.

My 260Z brake rebuild
I haven't torn into them yet. I have another set I will rebuild that are already off the car, but the seals on them seem to be ok, but will rebuild them anyway.

My 260Z brake rebuild
I ordered them last friday, got them in saturday. The only reason I ordered them was because of you, plus i guess 36 yr old calipers might need to be rebuilt before going out on the track, especially since the dust seals are non existent. I only opened one package and will probably take them back to the store and show them I need one more oring. Even though the oring is a square cut they might have something that will work.

advance auto parts uses the same kit.

Another 4 to 5 spd swap
Have to remember to K.I.S.S., I'm sure you know what that means. Everyone likes to jump to the most expensive conclusion while trouble shooting, even those giving the advice. Did you lightly lube the bushing and the input shaft? Put the tranny in gear, and while handling the tranny, rotate the output shaft. This should get the splines to line up. What did you use for the shifter bushings? You can also use door hinge bushing in the Help section of the auto store. #38377(IIRC) is one number that will work, the other has an assortment of 4 sets of which 2 will work.

Another 4 to 5 spd swap
It's probably not the dowl pin, like all transmissions it takes a bit of wrangling to get in. Do yourself a favor, get a few longer bolts that will fit in the block holes and cut the heads off, use these as guide pins when fitting the transmission. They will line it up close enough and hold the weight of the tranny while you're trying to line up the input shaft. Then take out the guide bolts out by hand while replacing them with the regular bolts.
