  1. dentist skit. with tim conway korman never could keep a straight face. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SEGuVb-mtf0
  2. Bob, Glad the puller is still doing it's job. I have seen butyl get rock hard, but it's more of a hard shell from the dirt it developes to protect the rest of the material underneith. Either way it's good to know that taking your time and using hot water makes it a bit easier to disassemble the old taillights. When I was sent out a new taillight for my altima, along with the lense they sent a small roll of butyl to seal it. Since it was a fairly new car at the time, it didn't take much to pry off the old lense.
  3. you never said how old he was. :-P There are a lot of stories out there from people who have bought cars on the west coast and driving them back. coast to coast by 2400cc on zcar(search author number, all dates, all forums then click on his last page then go forward from there. Someone on hybridz picked up a 510 wagon in utah and drove it back to the east coast. I forget his name. amc_oldsarg bought a 280z in oregon and drove it back to texas a little less than a year ago. All very entertaining stories.
  4. from your past postings you were looking for a project car for you and your son. What could be better than both of you flying out and driving it back? search for 2400cc on zcar.com and see what he did with his son. coast to coast in a 240.
  5. unless you received the wrong bushings they should fit. 2 sleeves, inner and outer with the rubber between them.
  6. I always thought it was butyl holding the lenses on. They still used it on a '97 altima rear taillight.
  7. You may have to notch the 4 spd spdo carrier to match the retainer to use in the 5 spd. Or you could swap out the gear from one carrier to the other.
  8. can you take a pic of your control arm?
  9. Northern colorado got hit by a tornado this afternoon. I'm pretty sure it missed most of the nor col z guys. Pop's Z(mike), kenz240z, ncolz(glen). I'm not sure who else is in the area, hopefully they can chime in. http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/05/22/colorado.tornado.video/index.html#cnnSTCVideo http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/weather/2008/05/22/von.co.funnel.cloud.kusa?iref=mpvideosview http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=344391
  10. I saw pics of a z32 and a 350z get together. Looked like one spun out in front of the other and they collided.
  11. Check your 4 spd thread. Carl put up an ebay link for a nice looking car. The only bad thing I see is the damage to the rear valance, but considering it's rust free, that is minor.
  12. You may be right after checking out the pics of the ES kit online. Take either your rear crossmember or the front differential crossmember and see if they will fit when the bushings are together like you show in the pics.
  13. Are those one piece or 2 piece bushings? IIRC, they are one piece. I don't remember having to gind the sleeve down at all.
  14. Mike, if you have time you could try grinding down the ears where the lever goes to make it fit. The tranny Dave had probably had the medium length ears, the msa short throw shifter is made for the 4 spd. We'll be doing this mod on Tim's donor tranny. Pics of the short throw mod are in my pic gallery. 4 spd- short ears early 5 spd-- medium length ears late 5 spd-- taller ears enabling to drill for pivot approx 1" higher.
  15. Check the old one first. Maybe the kid had that done already. But stock unit will be fine for the driving you should be doing. It has held up fine in my 240 in 6 yrs, a dozen track days and a trip to long beach and back. We still gotta school you on the rearend on these things. We'll replace the whole rearend, no need to swap internals. I guess Jason will help us with the tear down and bring the 4.11 with him when he does?
  16. It's been a few years since i did mine. I do remember the instructions were wrong and i started to put the short sleeves where the long sleeves should have gone. The sleeves get driven or pressed to the base of the control arm. I don't recall any spaces after tightening up the bolts. BTW Poindexter, i really don't know the advantages or disadvantages of mixing rubber and poly bushings. Except one may deteriorate quicker than the other.
  17. There should be 4 large diameter sleeves in the kit. 2 different lengths. They go over the inner control arm stubs in place of the rubber bushings, then the poly bushings will fit.
  18. They have connectors and can only connect one way. One wire is white and comes from the battery for horn and stop lights(left one), The other is a blue with yellow stripe and goes to "common"(right one)
  19. #8 is folded up steel mesh held in by a plate and screws in the block. It's #5 "flame arrestor" that is the "bottle brush" that is in ALL valve cover breather hoses.
  20. The flashy paint schemes for the track cars work best for the track. For street use and every day driving the understated side striping kit looks the best, if not the stock paint is good too.
  21. It's called a "flame arrestor" and yes it is normal in that hose. Go to carfiche.com and try downloading the factory service manual. Be patient because it might take a while for it to become available.
  22. Here's the image from msa. The white with red stripe wire attaches to the threaded lug show. There should be a cutout on the wire side(top) of the fuse block case.
  23. Can you take a pic of the new fuse block? The new fuse block should have a cut out at the top right for the power wire to go through and attach to the fuse(front) right side of the block. I would take a pic but my cam batteries are dead.
  24. The only ones that I have seen problems with the poly t/c bushings have been with 280zx. Maybe I missed the problems with the s30. With the way I drive my 240 with the z club I am sure mine would have broken by now. :-D
