  1. you were in denver and never called? You just see if I call when I'm in beaverton oregon. :-P As far as body shops go, most of them are in only for insurance collision repair and rarely do complete paint jobs any more. There are a few in the Denver area that do complete restoration and you do pay for it. You might find a small repair shop that will take on a complete paint job as they have time for it, but don't expect it back in less than a month. Next time you're in Denver let me know. Maybe there will be a car show or something worth going to see.
  2. was all this done while the tank was still in the car? Just curious. Glad you figured it out.
  3. zmanco on hybridz used this as a break in procedure. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
  4. Yeah, they locked then deleted the thread on zcar. The one from hybridz is still up, but close to getting locked and pulled.
  5. hmm majority forums opinions zcar, hybridz, classiczcars all took you to task about how you handled the situation and was beat down for it. Zdriver has been spotty today or else there would have been 4. Trying all the forums to try and get someone to see your side got you one sympathy vote. Take the majority opinion and go with that the next time you have the urge to endanger your life and that of your GF.
  6. The bolts should come off as well. Get a block of wood or a rubber mallet, it should pop off.
  7. It's your car do what you want with it. But it does look like it was very well taken care of and some things were done above what any maaco shop woul have done. The suspension parts were painted, as well as the crossmember. These looked like they were all taken off to paint.
  8. The exhaust could be rusted out under the heat shield. Get a stethascope or piece of rubber hose to narrow down where the leak is coming from.
  9. Not my car or anyone I know. Looks like he has all the parts to make it complete and the body work is all done. Would be a perfect car for resto completion. http://denver.craigslist.org/car/186339608.html
  10. What did the rest of the car look like?
  11. There are some that want to get issues that they don't have. I bought a couple off of ebay for about $7-$10. One of them was the premere issue for zcar. I have all the issues of zcar and sportz. I like to browse thru them about once a year. Every now and then they pop up on ebay.
  12. There seems to be so many differences in transmission types between US spec and other markets. The top one could have come out of another car requiring the need for a shorter back half or it could be the 5 spd boxes that were in the other markets and never made it to the US market. Is the 5th gear 1:1 or is it an actual overdrive?
  13. The 1-2 throw on a stock length z shifter is 5.5". With this mod the throw shortens it to 3" for the 1-2 shift
  14. The 1-2 throw on a stock length z shifter is 5.5". With this mod the throw shortens it to 3" for the 1-2 shift
  15. This is the later 4 spd, note the height of the pivot hole Early 5 spd. note the lentgh of the shifter ears and height of the pivot hole Late 5 spd, note the longer length shifter ears and the height of the pivot hole. If you have a late 5 speed you can make a short throw shift mod without paying the $150 for the msa short throw kit. Redrill the longer ears on the shifter ears on the tranny then cut the bottom portion of a 4 speed shifter and drill and tap for a stud to lengthen. Check out the pics in my gallery for the mods. There are other differences but these seem to be pretty consistant.

    Smog test

On my '73 I used the round tops with the '73 intake. On the '73 intake there was a screw valve that I kept and ran a hose under the intake open to atmosphere and cracked it open enough to pass the tail pipe emissions we have for cars 25 yrs old or older. Mine is missing the smog pump and I am using a 280z exhaust manifold. It doesn't have any of the air tubes. Now I have the 5 yr plates and don't need to smog it for as long as I have the 5 yr plates. Colorado emissions don't seem to care about what the car was suppoosed to come with as far as emission equipment. We have the IM240 for '82 and newer which is the same as AZ. This yr will be the last yr for my 280zx to have to have emissions. then I will get 5 yr plates. Didn't you live in Durango? When did you move to AZ?
  17. zbane, that looks nasty. My zxt was an arizona car and it looked brand new compared to that. My lines came off without a problem. I just took it off, checked and put everything back on. Laura, let us know how it looks.
  18. Have you checked the inside of the tank yet? There is an inspection lid under the carpet and pad in the hatch, then you'll see the fuel sending unit.
  19. Even if you don't find it, you can always find one similar and fix it up for her. You never know if the old car is still on the road and if it is what kind of shape it's in.
  20. Use the dodge hinge bushings. Do not drill or file to make the pin fit. Let the pin form the bushing using the vice to push it through. You might have to do a small amount of filing on the flats of the bushing to get it to fit in the ears of the transmission. The key is to keep it a snug fit so it won't rattle.
  21. Did you use the supplied grease? Are you torqueing them down after the car is on it's own weight and rolled back and forth a few times?
  22. Wouldn't it be so much easier when people would actually weigh their car before and after mods, instead of "I hear that,,,,". That seemed to be what was going on in the hybridz thread. They need to get the facts on their own car beofre making generalizations. I took both of my cars to the truck scales, both full dress and full tank of gas. The zxt has a 4 spd auto. I didn't get the front and rear ratio since I just use them for daily driver. If I do mods to the '73 I'm sure I'll get better info for weight distribution. '73 240z, full tank, spare tire--- 2500 lbs. '82 280zx turbo, full tank, 4 spd auto--- 3060 lbs.
