  1. Here's someone's project car they lost interst in. He must have a lot of boxes for all the parts. He could probably get more than $1500 parting it out, all the work has been done to part it out already. Hopefully he can get someone to buy it. http://denver.craigslist.org/car/167964918.html Steve, will you be going to the z club track day at the state patrol track this month?
  2. I go with pic 1. The large radius goes in the cup of the frame.
  3. I have magnaflow 3" in 2- 2.5" out on my 280zx turbo. I like the sound it has.
  4. Try priming the carbs with starter fluid. Is the filter in the electric pump clean?
  5. I drove my '73 to long beach and back for the '04 z convention. On my first engine rebuild ever. That's including the track day and track events with our local z club.
  6. That looks like a 4 speed. Check out my gallery here for the pics of the differences of 4 spd, early 5 spd and the late 5 spd.
  7. I have done the swap in my zx turbo. I used an '83 maxima transmission that was rebuilt to turbo specs. Extra clutch for 2nd, valve body drilled for higher pressure. http://www.zcar.com/articles/twheel/4spdauto/ '88 maxima shifter handle cut down and the shift plate dremeled to accept the square shift lever. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/280zxt/ftm005.jpg the brackets have been thrubolted with the tunnel sandwiched by 2 plates of steel. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/280zxt/4spdauto.jpg curved cross member or whatever you can fit there that will follow the tunnel at it's straightest portion. The brackets I made out of 2" x 3" square tubing then cut and drilled. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c301/dlh2460/280zxt/4spdauto4.jpg It is expensive, and not for the faint of heart. New exhaust, new drive shaft etc.
  8. You have a PM with a link to a pic and parts list to make your own. Another couple of pics in the Winter 2006 issue of Sportz magazine page 22.
  9. Spending 45 mins to pound one pin out was long enough for me to make my own puller. That and reading all the horror stories of the pins in the archives.
  10. Check my gallery for some noticeable differences in the shifter ears for the 4 and 5 spds. But I have found a 5 spd in a '81 with the middle length ears like the early 5 spds, but a single exhaust hanger like the late 5 spds. The pics aren't a difinitive answer for all transmissions, but it might at least let you know what year it might have come from.
  11. Try the dealer. Just because they're a dealer doesn't automatically mean they are the highest in price.
  12. pull n save had $30 transmissions a couple weeks ago. I couldn't pass that up, I would have bought 2 but I let a friend know and he got the other. I'm not worried about replacing bearings if needed. They are pretty easy to work on with the right service manual and common sense. For the late 5 spd you can modify it for an actual short throw shifter. Then cut, drill and tap for a stud in a 4 spd shifter. This mod shortens the actual throw on a stock length shfiter from 5.5" to 3" 1-2 shift.
  13. I agree with attacking it from the front. There is a chance that the hood latch bracket on the firewall was bent down causing the lathc to bind. I was able to loosen the hinge bolts and the hood popped up.
  14. You will also need the front differential cross member and the rear curved cross member from a 280z if your '72 doesn't have it. Get the half shafts as well.
  15. rear outer bearing #nsk B31z-16C4 rear inner bearing # nachi RLS10 T C4 These were probably replaced at one time. You should be able to go to any bearing place and they can match them up. As far as brands, let others chime in.

Don't worry, I don't take it personally. ;-) It was a nice drive and perfect weather. There are a couple guys in the club that actually take their roadsters to the track with the z club and other track days.

All I did was take the pics. Check out the colorado wyoming roadster owners site. I don't know who wrote up the plaques. I'm sure you could probably ask them and correct them like it seems you are itching to do. ;-) I will have to admit, I took liberties with the 2+2 , 2+1 designations. http://www.wycroc.org/

Had a z club drive to a museum featuring datsun cars for the winter. Here are a few pics, I'll link them since they are so big. 1st roadster ( some people need to use more sunscreen ;-) ) writeup on 1st roadster Try glancing at the name of the city and say it without thinking. 1st roadster 2+2 2+1 2+1 writeup some of the cars that made the trip 2000 nice paint
  19. very common bearing, # 6302 and easy replacement with vice, sockets etc.
  20. early 5 spd ears, lower than the late 5 spd. same pivot location
  21. Note the pivot is drilled higher than on a 81-83 zx 5 spd transmission.
