Whats a 3.36 R180 worth so i dont get scammed?
Since a lot of people replace it with either an r-200 or lower geared r-180, they should be giving them away. If I were to go back to the 3.36 r-180, I wouldn't pay over $50 and that for me is a little high. That is still high for a more desirable 3.9 or 4.11 r-180.

First Time Solo Clutch Change - Lessons Learned
I always recommend the headless bolts when lining up the tranny. Whether finding that tip on the forums or something you figured out on your own, good job.

Optima Battery Size
From my experience, I would only get an optima for a daily driver. I still have one that is more than 12 yrs old. Of course this was when they were still made in englewood and not in mexico. The main reason I bought them was because the dry cell. But too many discharges caught up with the battery I had in the z. At the time I bought 2, one for my various daily drivers and one for the z. The one in the z only lasted 6 yrs.

Steering lock removal
pair of wire cutters to dig into the soft metal of the headless bolts and turn them out. As said in previous post, keep the phillips heads tight to release tension on the headless screws.

Preparation for long trips
I rented a car last year and put over 5k miles on it in a little over 2 weeks. I was comfortable had a nice stereo, a/c and cruise control. 8 years ago I took my 240z to the '04 z convention, no a/c, no tunes and no cc. I forget what I took, but had no problems.

Don't judge me, but I lost the keys to my 1973 240z.
Impressioning isn't for the amateur, especially with locks that have wafers like the datsuns. There is a bigger chance you will damage the lock before making a key. For a locksmith the code is the best thing. If the same key fit all the locks then that is your best bet, pull the passenger door cyl. You could go one step further and pull all the cylinders and get all the cylinders rekeyed to the same code or another just so that all wafers and springs are new so a random key won't work like thney all seem to do after 30 yrs.

Thank you for sharing your story Jerry, and hope to see it continue. Now for all the other stories you did not go into. How about another thread or continue the other stories in this one? On another datsun related forum ratsun.net there is a thread by figbuck. A very interesting read.

Does the brand of fuel injector matter?
They will work if for a z31. Hopefully they were ones that were replaced on a recall.

It's a great track, especially when you read the history of HPR. http://www.highplainsraceway.com/history.html

High Plains Raceway in my 240z
July 7th 2012 I was in a group of cars with similar power and experience level drivers. The z car club of colorado holds track events twice a year at HPR. This is the first one for the year. We don't race and has limited passing. It's a lot of fun then you get a group of cars together and take turns leading. Restored black pearl taking the lead in the first vid. Original owner '79 280zx

July 7th is coming up fast. We have two pre-tech sessions scheduled at the home of Gary Bracken (2487 S. Dover Way, Lakewood, CO 80227, 303-969-9964) as follows: 1st tech session - Saturday, June 30th from 10am to 3pm 2nd tech session - Tuesday, July 3rd from 4pm to 7pm PLEASE try to make one of the pre-tech sessions so we are not pressed for time to get the cars inspected on track-day. The more cars we have to inspect the morning of the event, the later we'll get on the track and, we charge an EXTRA $10.00 to tech your car at the track.
