    Just curious not seeing anything here about it. I would think there would be a better venue to sell it than on craigslist. I see it as a valuable piece of history.

I have invested over $73K in this project and now must give it up due to time constraints because of a new business venture. The shell of this car is in primer as I had it in FL at a body shop for 2 years - it needs a few more hours of metal work, but is 95% completed. 90% of the parts of this car have either been refurbished or new NOS parts purchased. I have been collecting NOS rare 1969/70 parts for years that are no longer available. The original color is 901 Silver w/ black interior. John Williams, noted Z mechanic & racer in the Sugar Hill area has totally rebuilt the original motor (over $10K) which is just the tip of the iceberg. When this car is completed it will be the nicest Z anywhere w/ a history only 2nd to #00016!! I will be glad to send e-mail photos of the parts and shell and can review the project up to this point via phone @ 770.331.0999. I will loose over 24K selling at $49K, but that's your gain.     Australian Holdens. Some older Nissan Skylines exported to New Zealand and Australian markets. Very common SOHC motor down there.

    2+2's do seem to be more plentiful than the coupes. Unfortunately not to many like them so they end up getting parted out.
  10. You should have two additional rocker switches in the fuse block cover. Neat feature that allows you to turn on left, right or both marker lights. Not sure if it was an available feature on European or other export model Z's.
  11. This is my first Fairlady Z and my only surviving picture. This photo was taken just before getting on the transport ship to Oakland California. I purchased it for 30,000 Yen in Okinawa Japan durring my stay in 1986. My friend Sugio put the red coat on for me. The G-Nose and flares were purchased in a local junk yard. Upon registering in California I had personalized plates that said N0TA240. The Fairlady Z was my daily driver till I let someone drive it in 1992. They bounced it off a center curb divider into oncoming traffic. A truck ran over the front end. Fortunetly no one was hurt. Fast forward to 2003. I had a thought of building a Fairlady Z 2+2 like the one my friend Don built in 1986. These were taken in front of the squadron dorms on Okinawa in 1986. This Z was shipped to the East Coast in early 1987. A few years ago it was on ebay. I learned Don had passed away suddenly. Now I have two Fairlady Z 2+2 project cars.

    They will not be turned into clocks. Just kidding about that. The cool thing I thought of was the paper. Some one stored these out of site out of mind for a long time. They were sitting in the back of a parts car I recently picked up. The car had been sitting outside for six months. The paper would not have lasted much longer outside like that.

    So I purchased a 1975 280Z parts car. In the back were 4 hub caps wrapped in newspaper. I was thinking of drilling a hole in the center and putting a clock mechanism in the back. You guys think they would make great wall decorations?
  14. Alan is right about the engine bay tag. After looking at mine it does not have the engine number stamped in. Sorry about that, did not mean to pass on bad information. I have been disassembling to many 280Z's lately.
  15. The L20 with the e30 head is the standard Fairlady Z motor. Nothing special about them. There should be a tag in the engine bay with the original engine number. Most everything on the tag will be in Japanese except the numbers.
  16. There are a few of us in Sac. April 15th at 7pm there will be a ZONC (Z Owners of Northern California) meeting at Elk Grove Nissan. The area co coordinator is currently working on a 73. I have several on going projects. Interesting you mention pulling the dash. Just did that this weekend with my 75 280Z. I pulled it Saturday night. Sunday replaced the burned out bulbs, fixed the amp meter, replaced the speedometer, and cleaned all the connections. Then put it all back together and was driving it by 1PM.

  20. Happens all the time here in California. I collect engine compartment tags of the S30 Z's in the wrecking yards. My stack is a few inches thick. There have been several series 1 but they were missing the tag. I have the door tag off 1397.

  22. Trailer or flat bed it home. You could get ticketed for lapse of registration if it is by a regular tow truck. The wheels cannot touch a public road. Have the owner sign an application for a duplicate title. There is an area for them to release interest in the vehicle as well. http://www.dmv.ca.gov/forms/formsreg_alpha.htm Go to DMV and pay them. There is no real economical way around it. The sooner you pay the back fee's the better. Immedietly ask for non op status. The law requiring the seller to smog is kind of B.S. in my opinion. He could easily have junked it and not have to deal with even posting it on craigslist.

  25. I have this Yahoo Japan auction kit. Quality seems good. I have not had a chance to mount it. A guy in Japan bid for me. Ended up buying the kit for 52,000 Yen. My total cost was less than $750.00. Intitally I was going to have him cut the lower piece and bumper in half for EMS shipment. I took a chance on using a smaller box with less packaging protection. It arrived intact via the U.S.P.S. Big box!
