  1. It was just personal preference. I've had the SU carbs on past Zs, and the performance suits my driving needs. The Mikunis were overkill for occasional weekend drives, and I didn't want to hassle with the finicky tuning and adjustments. I purchased this Z because the body was in such great, rust-free shape, not for the performance mods.
  2. I realize what I have isn't an exact comparison, and never expected to get that much. These are very clean, but not recently rebuilt. So they could be better for someone who wants to save a little money and do the work themselves, or for someone who wants to rebuild them and sell them for a profit. But that still leaves me with the question of what I should be asking for them.
  3. Thanks. I never would have thought of that.
  4. I purchased my 240 Z about eight years ago, after it had been garage-stored since the 90s. The previous owner added these triple Mikuni Solex carbs after swapping in a L28 engine, but only drove the car about 700 miles before putting it in storage. I put less than 50 miles on them, before replacing them with some SU carbs from Z-Therapy. I'd like to sell these Mikunis, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm not trying to get every last dime out of them, but I do want a fair price for their value. (I'm not sure of the size, and will need to confirm.) I'm looking for any advice on what I should be able to get for them. I don't know if I should just set a price or put them up on an ebay auction with a minimum. Or if there's a better place to sell these. AnyIMG_2779 2.HEICIMG_2779 2.HEICIMG_2779 2.HEICIMG_2779 2.HEIC advice would be appreciated. (They are located in Cleveland, Ohio.) 5. It seems like whenever I see a new photo I become less sure. I assumed gunmetal was lighter and more metallic than hyper-black, but then I was told the opposite by an online distributor. So I started thinking that they must be hyper-black based on some pics I found in other wheel discussions, until I saw your pics. It all depends on the lighting.
  6. Hello, I am trying to duplicate this look with the same ROTA RB wheels, but I'm unsure of the finish. I'm attaching a couple of pics because the lighting and angle seem to make a big difference. I will be purchasing these online and can't view them in person. At first, I thought they were gunmetal, but someone else told me they were hyper-black. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks!
  7. I'm not familiar with R&R, thanks for the suggestion, and the tip about venturi
  8. I'd consider it, but the problem is there are so few mechanics around here who could help me do a swap and then I'm concerned that I may be opening myself up to a whole new set of problems. I'd have to do more research.
  9. My mechanic definitely thinks of them as more of a racing carb. He never said anything about swapping them out. That's more the feeling I get after reading about them being hard to tune, and making some other inferences about "racing" carbs. I was under the impression they are not good for stop and go, daily driving. I have not had the opportunity to drive this much. I've had it for a couple years, but I've been taking care of some other issues--fuel lines, gas tank leak, alternator and a few electrical problems. I finally had this on the road the other day for a test drive, and it just didn't feel right to me--really puttering at low RPMs, and stalled when I was pulling into a parking place. He's working on the valves now, but maybe I'm just overthinking this. So, correctly tuned these should be fine for a daily driver? I should add, this only has a 4-speed tranny. I'm thinking of swapping it for a 5.
  10. A few years ago I found the completely rust-free, orange 240 Z of my dreams. (This is the third Z that I've owned but my first 240.) It had been sitting in barn since about 1992, about 700 miles right after the previous owner swapped the engine for a 28L with a 4-speed and rebuilt it with Mikuni carbs. I have fun working on the interior, some chassis work, electronics and other "soft" stuff, but I turn to my mechanic to get this thing running right. The problem is, I bought this because of the rust-free unmodified body, but I've never had any intention to race this thing. In fact, I really just want something fun to tool around on nice days. So, I now realize that these Mikuni carbs are probably not the best choice--especially at the lower end. Is there a way he can modify or tune them to make this car drive better and more reliably for my use? Will this car ever be good for the way I want to drive around the city? Should I swap out the Mikunis for a stock carb set up? Is fuel injection an option? I know this talk is probably pains some of you to even hear--but I want this Z to be a little more practical for my needs. Thanks for your help.
