That's a perfect description of the process! It certainly pays to have the broom handy to sweep up all that ground-off material. Last week I FCAW (dual shield) welded a new driver's side floor pan in on my car, and we used the technique shown in the video. I have to admit to having been reluctant to using that technique because it's not something that I had seen and we would never allow that (at work) for structural steel joining. One is bound to trap inclusions. But, for a thin-gauge automotive application on a floor pan it was the way to go, and I'm glad my buddy showed me how to do it. I've seen some guys use but joints for these repairs, but we used lap joints because we figured they would be easier. Either way, I'm sure the result is much stronger than what we started with. I have a friend who's restoring a '67 Cobra with missing doors, hood, trunk, etc. I take my hat off to him and anyone with the patience to do that much TIG welding. I've never done it, but have witnessed it at P&W's engine plant in CT. It's patience-building to say the least.

To the 240z purists out there
Is that the same thing as MSR? If so, I drove that track last year. Had an opportunity to test drive some prototype S4s, S5s, and M3s. I like that track, expecially the banked corner leading up to the turn before the right-hander to the long straight. What color is your Z? I'm partial to blues and that looks great.

ArnieTX, I love your pictures. The loader with a Z is a classic. Between the different Series 1s you have do you have an extra set of seat frames you'd be willing to sell? I have a Series 1 that I am restoring to original and I need a set of original seat frames to reupholster. Ausgang HLS30-000491

spitz17: 1970 Datsun Series I 240Z Project
Spitz17, Nice ride and good find! This past November I bought your car's twin in western CO: Series 1, 11/69 production HLS3000471. She needs a lot more work than yours, but thanks to a life in AZ, she's avoided the corrosion problems typical of the NE where I live. Mine is supposed to be 903 Blue like yours, but was painted in the late 70s in a shade of white that will soon be gone. I'll be keeping an eye on your adventures and learning from your ideas/upgrades. Ausgang NYC

1970 or 1971 240Z wanted
It's time to make up for having sold my '70 240-Z back in 1983. It was darn close to perfect after I finished with it. Anyway, I'm looking for a '70 or '71 in very good condition. Will consider anywhere in North America that a rust-free near-original vehicle is located. Non-showy performance modifications are OK with me. My original car (pictured below) was a sleeper. I'm sure you guys have better mods and tricks available today. Going from memory, the mods I had previously were: A Thompson-prepared engine with weber side-drafts, mulholland springs, koni shocks, front and rear sways, reinforced subframe, ansa dual exhaust, minilite magnesium wheels with aluminum lugs, pirelli P7s (?), high-output alternator, cibie lamps. Ignition was the one week-point at higher rpms. Prefer a car with its original color, although something other than orange, as I already had that color. Also, if anyone can suggest a carshow event in NY/NJ/PA/DL where I can see nice Zs let me know. TIA "Ausgang"
