  1. I went to O'Reillys and matched the uninstalled rotor with calipers for a 91 4runner v6. There are two options for 91: - to 05/91 (pn 19-1240 and 19-1241) that had s12w stamped on them - from 06/91 (pn 19-1600 and 19-1601) that had s13w stamped on them The rotor fit on both. The only difference I saw was the piston size: 42.7mm on the s12w and 45.3mm on the s13w. Didn't buy them because they were just the basic O'Reilly brand but now I know what I need.
  2. Huh I thought all calipers called s12w would fit. Thanks for noticing that!
  3. I'm about halfway through upgrading my brakes and just noticed the rotor is way too thick for the caliper. One side already has the rotor installed and I painted both calipers. Calipers are AC Delco 18FR247 and 18FR248 for an 85 4runner. They have S12-8 stamped on them. I got the rotor from silvermine as well as the spacers. Did I get the wrong calipers? Or am I supposed to just run the stock rotors?
  4. 171k: Changed oil and put the 195 thermostat back in. Got the filters from Nissan, they're smaller than the one I had currently but probably the same...?
  5. Installed some LED headlights last weekend. I did not cut any of the existing wire so everything can be returned to sealed beams if I want to, although I'd keep the relays. That's the driver side, I didn't use the plug on that side so I taped it up. Passenger side, the plug goes to the relays. Resulting output in the buckets. I added a grommet in the hole, and used deutsch connectors for the blinker and parking light wires. The relays take the place of the evap canister. I removed it. The power wire goes to the alternator. It's hard to see in the pics but the driver side harness got routed in the top support in the off the radiator. I used adapters to get blinkers and parking lights. Now the orange lenses in the grille are useless, I'll get a 240 style grille to remove them. Later date though, since I still need to figure out deleting the front bumper and getting a new lower valance? spoiler? idk what it's called. The finished work! Took me well over a day to do. I also have a video of them blinking. VID_20231029_182340.mp4
  6. Other news: got some konig rewind 16x8 wheels, looks much better. Also, I went on a group cruise with the Austin Z Club, and found out I need front struts big time. It was very bouncy on the windy roads. And my RF brakes sound and feel like they're grabbing, although when I hit the rotors and drums with a temp gun, they were equal side to side. In any case I think I'll upgrade the brakes while I do the struts. Not sure what I'll go with though.
  7. Well it's been a while, I got a cross flow radiator from thezstore.com. It helped a lot for going down the road, but when I stopped at a red light it would still go up. So I cut up the original fan shroud 😥 to make it fit but it worked. It's actually running a little cold now (168°F) which I guess is too be expected with the 170 tstat I put in. I think I'm gonna put the old one back in and see how it goes. Also, it's not 105 outside anymore so that helps.
  8. Ah that reminds me, I went through the old receipts and found a rad shop's receipt... Well I looked at it again and it's for the fuel tank. I'll try to find a shop somewhere, good idea.
  9. Alright, I replaced the thermostat with a Mishimoto 170°F one, but to no avail. I'm thinking the radiator is just old. As much as I want to keep it original, I do not want to overheat it. Right now it's running around 220, so it's not the end of the world but I'm sure it's gonna get worse and worse. Anything else it could be?
  10. I said I want to keep the original radio, but is this even the original? I thought the originals were Hitachi... Edit: OK I did a little looking around and it seems the Clarion might be original. Also found a bunch of people saying the original radios sucked 😅 Guess I'll get a retrosound then
  11. Ah I see, so all you did was cut the accordion part out. I like the idea, but that still leaves the big protruding rubber on the bumper... Not an issue on the front though.
  12. Ah, I also messed with the antenna today. It's been replaced, definitively not stock. The switch (took me a while to find it 😅) works, I had power and ground switching to the blue/red and blue/white wires. So I took the unit apart, and fed power to the motor and it moves. After a little more testing I gave up, I think it's the relay-ish box that's not working. I just moved the antenna up a little (only need it to pick up my BT transmitter) and left it. Took more interior panels off to get to the driver speaker behind the seat, because it's not making any noise. But it tested good so I'm guessing the radio is not sending it signal or the wiring behind the radio. I kinda like the OG radio though so I don't want to replace it... There's always the Retrosound radios I guess.
  13. OK, I figured the rear struts out. I got the bumper off, tapped on the passenger strut and it would just bounce back, but the driver side went in! Yesterday I never tried to push in the driver side... So I thought about what I did different, and I remembered I turned the nut inside the driver strut yesterday (it wouldn't come out, the stud spun with it but it must have made some difference). So I spun the nut on the other side. It's much harder to get to, but I got it with a wobble extension and a wobbler. And boom! That did it, the strut compressed without bouncing back. I then drilled and trapped the struts to prevent them from moving anymore. And now this is how she sits! Looks much much better. I think I'm gonna try to find someone who can fab me something to cover the bumper ends, rather than modify the original rubber ends.
  14. @grannyknotMy plans for her are just being a weekend driver, nothing crazy, probably road trips too. I did notice the steering rack had a bit of movement, but it was vertical instead of horizontal so no play in the steering. I may replace the bushings either way. What other places are you talking about? @Captain ObviousI did drill a hole in both rear struts, but they still extend back if I push them in (with a lot of force). I saw some YouTube videos saying to beat them in with a mallet so I think I'll try that (after removing the bumper again). I will indeed need to trim the black end caps... Or better yet, replace them with something that doesn't stick out as much.
  15. Now, I do have a few issues: 1. It's running a little hot (3/5ths of the way on the gauge) and when I pointed a thermometer at the t-stat housing it said 215 degrees... Seems a little high to me. 2. I aligned it today, and the only adjustment is the front toe. For the front it's OK, but the rear toe is pretty far off. I guess the springs are just old, since the camber is also out of spec (but I like it closer to 0 than 1). Is there some kit you can get to adjust rear toe? 3. The shifter bushing is very worn so there's a lot of play in it. I'm thinking about getting a short throw shifter. 4. The bumper issue! Like I said, the front needs to be replaced. A very fine gentleman named Calvin (not me) from the club said he had a spare 240z front end that could go on it. The only issue is that it needs to match the rear, and I don't want to remove the duck (?) thing above the rear bumper because then I'd have to repaint the rear end. I tried to drill a hole in the rear bumper struts, to sink it in so it doesn't stand out as much, but after drilling through them and draining some air and gas, they still wouldn't go in (although if I squeezed real hard I could get them to compress a little). Am I doing this wrong? So anyway, I'm stuck on the bumper question. Luckily, the damage on the front end isn't easy to see, so I'll take my time to decide what to do. 5. On the rear view mirror on the windshield, the dimmer switch doesn't work. I can pull on it but it won't stay. Common issue? I can reposition the mirror when I drive at night, but it'd be cool if the switch worked! 6. The antenna doesn't go up. I thought I couldn't take the push pins out of the interior without breaking them but looking at them again tonight I can. So I'll be looking at that tomorrow probably. 7. Kevin (owner of the Austin Z Clinic) showed me the disconnected vacuum lines by the vacuum canister for the AC, so I have to fix that. Just putting it here to remember. 8. The tires are from 2017 so I need to get her some new shoes real soon. And since the 14s are a little small IMO, I'm looking for some decent looking wheels (yes I will keep the OGs). Any good recommendation for 15s, 16s or 17s? Preferably less than $200/wheel. Alright, I think that's all! I have yet to think of a good name for her so if you got any, LMK! Thanks! PS: Have fun at ZCON to all those going!
